Default 400 points of Imperial guard with an attempt at freehand...

I’ve had this army in my main WIP thread for a bit now but I thought that it deserved its own thread at least until it’s nearly finished!

I’ve started this army with the elites as this is the core squad in the army. The list isn’t up for debate as it’s a pretty good list and fit’s the fluff (plus I have all of the parts now!). So far I have painted the Vet squad, both sergeants and have gotten quite far with the chimera. Here is the list:

Istrian PDF
400 points

Platoon:
JO w/ iron discipline, Mortar 55pts
Sqd 1
Heavy bolter and grenade launcher
Sqd 2
Autocannon and grenade launcher

5x Hardened Veterans
2x plasma gun and 1x plasma pistol on sarge

Chimera w/ multilayer, heavy bolter, storm bolter, extra armour, smoke launchers

Colours:
red: parts but not started
orange: built awaiting painting
dark orange: one model done the rest still in bits
orange: PIP
Green: finished minus the basing
Blue: finished

And piccies so far……..
On the chimera I am trying to do some freehand on the sides. The design that I have I painted easily when on paper but the surface is so different the paint isn’t flowing in the right way. It may be partially to do with my style of painting but I think it is just way too smooth painting on the undercoat. Any tips here will be much appreciated!
So the actual pics:

This is the vet squad, I have a close up of the sarge but my camera is a bit crappy so most of my images arent that great.

This is a picture of the tank part way through, I have gotten further with this now and really just have to finsih the freehand on the sides and do soem more weathering.

this is the image that is going on one of the sides, I still need ideas for the other side suggestions are welcome!

This is the first of the finished sarges, the other has yet to meet the camera but is similar.

My next stage is to build the line squads although I do wish to make them less cadian so I may do a couple of headswaps here and there perhaps even some other minor conversion.

Please critique away,

A

Nice job I like the hats on the command squad, also that pistol on the sergeant is that from an empire or dwarf sprue? I know you said the list isn't up for debate but why the plas pistol on the sarg when a plas gun on a normal vet is better and costs less?

The pistol is from the empire militia sprue. The reason for the plasma is thta I like having the sarge their for extra attacks so he needs a pistol, I also wanted a squad with two ablative wounds on it as well (not too sure if that actually matters anymore though). And thirdly due to fluff and modelling reasons. He is actually a resettled veteran from the third Solentian rifles, the pistol is a family heirloom and as such he proudly carries it to battle. The whole squad has uniforms derived from other armies. (well that was the intention anyway!)

I also just remembered I hadnt updated this with a progress of the command squad shot so here is a pic of the squad and one of the officer.

Have done it with thumbnails should work any problems just say and il stick them in the post itself

Right another update. I finally finished my chimera, I was getting annoyed with the surface of the extra armour so stuck some cartridge paper on it so it wasnt so smooth, freehand was then sooooo much easier and only took a couple of hours. Have grubbied it up as well!

Oh and i based the vets finally, have nearly finished the command squad as well just got two guys left to do detail on they may be finished today!

So here you go

I like the models so far. Just a question, how come you used old school helmets (I'm guessing brettonian) on your command squad while keeping the normal ones on the other squad. Kind of takes away from the continuity of the army. But thats just my 2 cents.
Aside from that, great job. Keep up the work.

The other painted squad is the vets who have their own equipment, they are from a veteran colony. The line troops will have standard equipment as they are equiped fromt he main armoury. Its a prestige thing in the fluff tbh the line troops will fit in when I get round to them!
