These guys need new bases. Plus, one had been knocked from his aerie and needed regluing.

Today, I deepened the mounting holes in the hawks' underbellies and prepared the poles. I use two different thicknesses of copper rod. The outer one is hollow, allowing the inner one a machined fit. It makes for a snug fitting with the hawk itself.

I'll let the greenstuff, epoxy, and superglue dry for the night, and tomorrow morning I'll rinse the models and bases off in warm, soapy water.

Once they dry, I'll touch up places where the paint's chipped away on the models themselves. I might just apply a coat of Testor's Dull Cote to finish them, or I might gloss varnish them for protection before the Dull Cote.

For the bases, I'll do a much better job than last time. I'll add some colorful sprites, static grass, and other bits. The poles I'll paint green and brown. Brown for the lower two thirds and green for the upper third to reflect the the green colors of the base below and the brown colors of the hawk above.

I hope to finish this by Monday evening.

Thanks for the comments. You did see a mold line. Not sure how I missed it. Also, I wasn't as careful back when I first started painting these two summers ago. I have another box that I'll spend more time on.

I began this morning by washing everything in warm, soapy water. The bases, the plastic bits, the warhawks and their riders: everything got washed.

After I rinsed each item, I put it on a cloth towel and dried groups of them with my wife's hair dryer.

I allowed them to air dry a while longer and scraped glue off the old bases which I'd left to soak overnight.

I cut a sizable piece of cardboard into several smaller pieces and affixed to one of them everything that needed priming.

While the primed parts dried, I worked on touching up the warhawks and their riders. I covered up the the hawks scraped or flecked areas with RMS Muddy Brown and Harvest Brown. The riders didn't need a lot of work, but I should have covered up those black specks on the one rider's pectorals.

I brushed on gloss varnish to all three, brushed on matte varnish, and then sprayed on Testors Dull Cote.

Meanwhile, I painted some of the primed bits, the leaf stands and a spite. After painting ogres for so long, shifting back to this tiny scale has been difficult. The work seemed really sloppy.

I painted and varnished the bases' posts as planned: brown on the top half and green on the bottom half.

Also, get this, I played a game of Warhammer with them at 4 o'clock, a minor victory against Dark Elves.

I'm finally giving up with what seems like a fair amount of work left ahead of me tomorrow. Between mowing the yard, making the grocery run, and meeting a man in the morning to rid myself of some concrete blocks in the back yard, I don't see me getting finished at all. It looks like Skrag will have to wait a little while longer.

Took me all day to finish these, with stoppages for quotidian tasks, but they are done.

Great work all the way through. Could I ask for a free hand symbol of some sorts on the battle standard? I really like the pale cloak on the standing mage too.

Wonderful work.

The effect on the poles / stands / whatevers is surprisingly convincing, and the elves look great. Awesome work!

Back when I painted him, I was afraid of free hand. I should go back and redo the whole banner. There's no blending. I hadn't learned how to handle big surfaces back then. The ogres have helped me with that, so yeah, I should just redo the whole thing.
