If you're planning to do a lot of them, like entire regiments with runes on their shields, you may want to look into doing it with enamels or oils too. They can be much better suited to that type of task than acrylic if you learn the right techniques! (A pox on me for questioning the mighty hobby-acrylic, I know )

I understand actually, what with a much longer working time oils have over acrylics it would be possible to get a much better effect. Me however, have used acrylics for the past 13 years, so I'd rather stick to them because I know what I'm doing. lol However I fully intend to pushout and experiment with oils one day.

Anyways, focussing on the T again, what shall we expect to see next from your mighty maelstrom of a painting desk?

The next pics I'm going to be posting are either WIPs of my Blackclad, or some converted (not painted) Sternguard veterans (for the ToP 40k project), or maybe even both, depending on how the evening goes, and how early I get up tomorrow (I need to leave for work at 11am ish tomorrow, so if I get up early enough I will put pics up of the Blackclad, who is going to need decent light to photograph well).

I've also got my Secret Santa project to do, but I won't be posting pics 'til after he's posted, as it were.
I'm looking forward to that, though. Should be fun.

Exactly what I'll be doing. I will either wait until St. Stephens Day or until my partner has confirmed receiving it before I post pictures.

Despite my vow to not buy any space marines(chaos not included) in 2009 I look forward to your interpretation of the new veterans!

Well, I have half the pics I thought I might have.
I didn't get anything done on the Sternguard, as my bits boxes were a little more hectic than I had thought.
So, I sorted out a bunch of bits, and should hopefully be building them today and tomorrow, but they may get put back a little if I get sidetracked...

Anyway, I do have the Blackclad WIPs.

He is going to be source-lit as if there was a glowing ball of energy above his outstretched hand, which is why there is the pic from that angle in there.
I'm really happy with the skin, and I think that the outside of the cloak is working quite well, but I suspect I will be going back and editing it, somewhat.

Everything will be getting a few glazes of blues, and probably an extra layer of shading, to emphasise the lighting, once the whole model is finished at a 'base colour' level.

    Anyway, pics:

    Thoughts?

It's one of PP's better models (and a great solo too after the blah Lord of the Feast), and you really do it justice. I'm especially drawn to the face and hand and how well they're done. The outer cloak is a little off to me, in that it looks kind of like a shell. It's still painted extremely well, just kind of shell like. Maybe the washes will help with that. Gorgeous work, as always.

    Cheers Tekore, much appreciated =)

Now, before I post the finished pics, I want to say that this is the first time I feel like I've taken a risk with painting in a long time.
I got the whole model done to a standard that I was happy with, and was really nervous about doing the colouring for the light.

I am pretty happy with it.
It's not quite right, the intensities are a little off in various places (notably the top of the cloak should be much brighter and bluer than it is atm, but I think it would shift the focus of the model away from the face and interior of the cloak, which is where I wanted it to be), but for my first shot at lighting I think it ended up quite good.

    Anyway, pics:

    ...and the face:

    So, what does anyone think?

C&C would be much appreciated on this one, especially if anyone has any experience with lighting effects...

The face looks great - the details are really crisp and he seems really intent on whatever is glowing above his hand. I don't have any experience painting lighting effects but I think they are very convincing. They're subtle enough that they don't dominate the model but bright enough that they add a new dimension and a lot of character. The first thing I thought of when I saw them was moonlight, which I think fits with his dark demeanor and colors.

    Really nice work.
