I like your sculpting tools - and they certainly look like they've been useful, the scale-mail looks quite well done. And you've done a good job of elvening the armour up as well. It's the little extra bits of effort that'll make this finished piece look wonderful!

Rabbit; Our Tau community has the talent of figuring out how to turn a feather into a timebomb. Macgyver would be jealous.
8people; Honey, why is my fluffwars story your shopping list?

Ok so I have about finished sculpting the model, I think, let me know if there are bits I have missed. Be harsh please, it is the internet and you won't see any tears, but please tell me how to improve it as well as calling it bad.

The front on view looks like it is missing something and I am not sure if the Dragon helmet is too much, maybe I would be better of with the another head that is a little smaller.

Overall the miniature looks a bit busy, with the 2 hand weapons, lance and a (smallish)shield to come, don't want to remove the 2 swords though as they draw the focus away from the scale-mail which isn't very good.

Thanks very much, I think that the armour would have come up better if I had done it all in one go instead of trying to do it in layers and sanding it back, it just seems to give a better finish. It was pretty fiddly though so that could have been the problem as well.

None of those sculpting tools are my ideas, even the pin is stolen from a U-Tube series here on sculpting from Stormthecastle.com.

feels bad critisizing something way better than i could do... but harsh is what you want right?

Before i say anything remotely bad about it though i would like to say, it looks fantastic... feels like high elf and looks like it could easily be a citadel sculpt. So hats of to you for a great model it should look awesome finished, and its not overly busy so dont fret about that.

I looked it up and down many times and the only thing i could come up with is that the martindale (front chest plate part of the tack) bottom edge is not quite uniform and might benefit from a little neatening and same with the bottom edge of the scale barding maybe? but really.... thats being hypercritical.

Thanks heaps, your opinion means alot, I see what you mean about the martindale, I will try and fix it up, same with tidying up the Barding.

I often find it hard to see things because I am so close to the project.

I have got some more ideas for shield

and have got another head stuck on the pegasus rider as well just to see what it looks like.

It looks more like an out of focus photo than anything else but oh well.

    C&C would be awesome.

I'm not a huge fan of DP helms, but in this case, I think the DP helm is better for the model. Way awesome dude. I LOVE the angle of the lance

Well, in terms of criticisms, I don't really have anything bad to say.

I agree with Kobalt's point (provided he's talking about the ring around the horse's neck with the three gems being a little uneven) but even that doesn't look all that bad.

I don't think it looks too busy with the dragon helm. It's a wide model with the wings, and the helm gives it a bit of height to balance that. I personally like my leaders to be more ornate, too, but I suppose that can have its drawbacks (e.g Quick, shoot at the shiny guy! He looks important!)

I think if I was making this model, and looking at your first photos... I'd be tempted to position the lance to be pointing more upwards than sideways. Or straight ahead as though he's charging. Again, personal opinion, though.

If you are worried about it looking too busy, one thing you could try it to remove the pennant from the lance. One less thing to be waving around and getting it the way! But as I said, I don't think it looks overly busy, it might just need a little tweaking of the pose and you'll be fine.

An impressive job thus far, it looks really good with the wings (even if they're not fully attached yet!)

I decided to go with the Dragon Helm, it does look a bit better on the model even if it isn't totally appropriate, maybe he couldn't find a dragon to ride so got the next best thing.

I think if I was making this model, and looking at your first photos... I'd be tempted to position the lance to be pointing more upwards than sideways. Or straight ahead as though he's charging. Again, personal opinion, though.
To be honest I had just stuck the lance on with blue tack with no thought whatsoever to its angle or anything. I will have a look at it upright though, as well pointing straight.

I have fixed up the martindale (thanks for the proper work Kobalt). It's a bit more even now and I have had a go at fixing the barding a bit (with very little improvement).

I stuck the wings on and undercoated the rider in white last night so I will start to get some painted shots up soon.

Great to see your thread coming along nicely. Now I just need my Vampire Counts to catch up! I'm really liking the way your Pegasus is coming along. What tones do you plan on painting it?
