Default Allonairre's WIP Thread

So I thought that I would add a contents to this post, to make easier navigation to the pictures of finished models;

Beaten and Based Dwarf
Secret Santa Warrior Priest
Dark Elf Cold One Hero
Mage, ToP army about half done
Links to WIP Swordmasters P3 and 4
Completed Swordmasters
Chariot and Bolt Thrower
Completed Ellyrion Reavers
Completed Lion Chariot
Links to WIP Spearmen P6 and 7
Completed Spearmen
WIP Pegasus Knight P8 to 10
Completed Pegasus Noble
Secret Santa WIP P12

Since I intend on entering ToP 2 or 3, I thought I might as well set up a WIP thread so that I don't forget what I supposed to be doing. I can procrastinate more effectively on the interweb as well,

Calling it research, updating and refining techniques etc...

For ToP I'm going to do Elves, hoping to do all 1000 pts NMM but that could take too much out of me in the end (21 seagaurd in a month when 1 Sword Master takes several hours).

Anyway in the meantime here is a post of my first ever non GW mini.

He is a Witch Hunter guy from Confrontation, they have some really beautiful miniatures.

Click the image to open in full size.

This is also a good opportunity to work on my photography, so let me know how to improve that as well as C+C about the rest of the miniature.

Cheers
More later...

Allonairre

Edit: Bugger the image is too wide, just rechecked the rule about 700 pixels, will try and fix it.

Fixed it

Bowling Subtle

I think your shading and highlighting is subtle, perhaps too subtle. I love the script down the scroll but I think the rest of the model although very neat, just doesn't convey as much depth as it could.

Thanks for the advice, the shading is subtle, I did that on purpose (honest) the original intention was that he be set at night, under a street lantern. I didn't pull the effect off, I don't think that I started with a dark enough basecoat unfortunately.

I will keep on working on him and post some more miniatures as I complete them.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Back again and with more pictures

These are photo's of my first months entry into ToP, I though I would post them before I finish them fo that I can use the advice I am given.

Without further ado

Elf Noble Front

Back
http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...1Hero003-1.jpg

The paints look very thick (grainy or something) in the photo I think and the reds are too flat. The gems aren't finished and it isn't based yet.

Both arms are partially sculpted but I am a bit unhappy with how it came out.

I think I need a cape of some description being blown back against the elf.

Below is the Ealge that lifts the points up to close to 200 tips on that would be great as well.

Update again later

Default John Q's Unofficial painting contest

This is going to be my entry into the "beaten and based" competition. It is a bit of a cop out I know but I wasn't going to use the Dwarf for anything else.

The idea was that he is about to be burned at the stake (I know there is no stake).

Again I would love to here what you think I can improve, because he isn't finished yet, so I can use your suggestions straight away.

Ok here is the 1000 pts that I intend to do for ToP, It might be a bit more than 1000 pts all up but I don't think that I will finish the seagaurd unit completely in the timeframe

Month 1
Noble Glorladre

Eagle
(185 Points)

Month 2
10 Archers
Musician

Repeater Bolt Thrower
(215 Points)

Month 3
Mounted Master Mage Elthaa

{10 Archers not really needed}
(295 Points w/ Archers)

Month 4
7 Swordmasters
Bladelord + Musician

5 Ellyrion Reavers
Bows + Musician
(235 Points)

Month 5+6
21 Seagaurd
(256 Points)

Red Don't own it yet
Orange Own miniature needs stripping etc.
Blue Prepared but not painted
Green Painted but not Based
Black Finished

Month 5+6 will be tough and month 4 onwards will be expensive, but overall this looks acheivable, particularly if I can keep going with my current enthusiasm.

This was this months entry into ToP, there is a picture in the ToP thread just posting a link here for completeness

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...onth1005-1.jpg

I am reasonably happy but the Noble is not my best work. It hasn't come up as smooth as I would like really.

I will finish off both bases when I do the Archers and Swordmaster Bases.

WIP on Archers being posted soon.

Dude, your stuff is cool. I unfortunately don't know anything about painting miniatures so I don't have anything useful to add to this thread. But I do think your stuff is great and I wish I had an army of miniatures that was half that cool.

Cheers!

Thanks Vase, I have been painting for a while now but never really painted a cohesive army, I have about 5000pts of elves and no 2 units are painted in the same colour palette.

Tend to get sidetracked by the latest cool looking miniature.

Here a couple of WiP shots of my next couple of months of ToP, I really like the horse although he is still a long way from done.

Here is the musician for the archers, he is nearly finished although the red looks a little flat.
http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...nth2WiP005.jpg

Below are the horses from the glade gaurd and my attempts at converting the riders into Ellyrian Reavers, I think that I will need to greenstuff some flowing hair onto the archer heads to make them look like they are going fast. I like the horses though, but again they are a WiP.

I am going to be struggling to get 200 points painted by the 15th this month, I have hardly been able to pick up a brush at all, and wha ttime I have had has been spent on my Secret Santa. Whose address I accidentally deleted, still the miniature is slowly coming together and I am sure I will get the address back soon.

I do have a 200 pt mage that I could paint, he still needs stripping however, I am sure that I can manage that over the weekend as well as all my marking.

Ciao
