He does look a little odd. From some angles he looks pretty good, others just sort of... alright. Maybe it's just the photos, then?
Good luck with your secret santa mini - I really should get a move on with mine or it's going to be terribly late!

He certainly looks a little grim, not that I class this as a bad thing in this case! The yellow and brown seem to work wonderfully well together.

Yeah ge certainly is dark and grim all right! I like it.![]()

Warning: many photos ahead.
I've had a very busy two weeks painting wise but forgot to update my thread.
First, I started and finished my Pyg Bushwhackers in about two days so I could use them in a tournament last weekend. I'm not hugely thrilled with how they turned out but 10 models in two days is a new record for me.
To round out that tournament list I have a Troll Impaler. Please forgive his terrible shininess - I ran out of dull coat and forgot to take pictures before the gloss varnish went on.
Next in the pipe for the Trolls is a Winter Troll, Epic Madrak, and a Stone Scribe Chronicler.
I'll be doing the Winter Troll first for sure. The Trolls in general aren't painted to my best standard (even my best table top standard) and I'm getting a little bored doing the same thing over and over again. Partly because of minus t's nice looking Warpwolf WIP posts and party because I had a lot of fun taking my time on the next model, the Winter will be getting a little more love than the other Trolls.
Finally, I put in a few hours this weekend and finished my secret santa mini. Hopefully he'll be in the hands of the post office tomorrow and off to his new home.
My camera washed out some of the work I put into the greens and makes the sword look better than it is (the handle drove me insane for some reason - nothing I did was working) but overall I'm super pleased with him. I resisted the urge to do some snowflake freehand on the red parts and put snow on his base but I couldn't stop myself from making him look just a little Christmas-y.

A very cool looking Secret Santa - a conversion? Or is it just a model I haven't seen before?
Good work on the trolls - 10 models in 2 days is pretty impressive to me as well!

Nope, he's a stock GW model, the Orc Shaman. A very nice model to paint.

Wow that is one shiny troll! Been rolling around in the grease pot I think.
I kinda understand that you are getting bored of painting the trolls. The majority of the models fit the same formula of skin, some clothes and a bashy weapon and/or gun. Not a lot of variation there, except perhaps some being bigger and some smaller.
Perhaps getting some mercs/minions to paint up?

I just registered myself for Templecon, which has several large Warmachine and Hordes tournaments. I registered for two - one needs 2 lists and the second needs 1 list. I'm planning to bring a Khador list for the single list tournament and Trolls for the double list tournament and my goal is to be fully painted for both. That should add a little spice to my painting for January - I'll probably have to do about 10 models for both armies.
Assuming my list doesn't change for Khador I'll have 7 models to paint, and I can think at least 11 models that will get painted for the Trolls. Hopefully mixing a little red into my yellow will spice up the painting.
