Wow, nice work in getting them done!
The freehand '5's look really nice, for your first try they look awesome.
Th power sword looks pretty good, but it's hard to see much with the angles you've got, any chance of a raised shot?

As some slight criticism, the captain's cloak has a few 'tide marks' in a few of the recesses, these are normally caused by letting the wash you used pool, then evaporate a little too fast.
Have you left him drying under a lamp, or something similar?

The best thing to do to get rid of these would be to grab a dark red, and simply paint the shades in, over the tide marks, and over the lighter red showing through.
It will take a bit of getting used to, and you might have to touch up any mistakes you make on the yellow 'string', but it will really help the model out to get rid of those few tiny annoyances...!

Here's a shot of the power sword:



A bit sloppier than yours but I think if I do a few more I'll get the hang of it. I tried to touch up on the edges with the dark shade but I didn't get the color to match perfectly. You should also ignore the metal paint on his hand, I'm fixing it right now.

I think exactly what you said about the cloak happened, although I didn't dry him under a lamp. I may have been a bit liberal applying the wash and since he dried standing it up, some of it ran down and pooled at the bottom. I'll try to clean it up using your method.

Work continues on the Crimson Fists.



I've finished the armour on these 5 guys and I'll be moving on to paint the red and details this week.

I've also started to think ahead to what I'd like to do after ToP finishes up. Come mid April I'll have finished a 2000 point Wood Elf army, 1000 points of Crimson Fists, and 500 points of Khador in 18 months. I've learned a ton in that time but I think I need to stop painting armies for a while if I'm going to continue to improve.

To that end, once this project is over I'm going to spend some time painting single models / units as I see fit. The first one is going to be this guy (please excuse the terrible photo):



He'll be a bit more flush to the base once he's done. Right now I don't know what chapter I'd like him to be, but I'm leaning towards the Storm Lords (the red, white, yellow, and halved scheme should be a challenge).



If anyone has any cool chapters in mind I am very open to suggestions.

And, since I got myself all excited about this, I went and painted the base:

why not do it in the sons of the librarium colour scheme? You could pull that off.

@ Ultramoose - Thanks, although I don't usually feel very fast when I'm painting.

@ Quo Man - I'm honestly not too jazzed with the Sons of the Librarium scheme; yellow and red have more pop for me than blue and white.

You may not consider yourself fast but your productivity is very impressive and you keep a consistent standard. More than just that you have been given good advice and learned from it and your models have improved as a result.

Great job so far.

As to that Space Marine, Stormlords would probably be fun and look good, painting the white would give you a different challenge than what you are used too with your PP and Crimson Fists.

Here we are - the assault squad is complete.



From the front I think they look a little bland so I may do something with their knee pads to give a little more color. I'm pretty please with how they came out, especially the pouches and grenades.

How much have you got left to do for ToP? We are almost done!

It is freehand, I've been practicing a bit.

For the fists I have two Rhinos left (which are very intimidating) and I have three Greylords and a Koldun Lord left for my Khador - not much more!
