Good work on the freehand, it is really enjoyable when you see it come out the way you want.

I disagree about them looking bland, I think that they look great.

Keep up the good work for ToP and good luck with the rhinos, Personally I have always struggled with anything bigger than a single miniature.

I've never worked on a tank before so I'm a little intimidated - that's why they're the last things I'll be painting for the project.

I started work on the Greylords this afternoon and finished their cloaks. I wanted a deep, dark red color instead of the bright red that the rest of the army has on their armour.

For the most part I'm happy with them. The last few layers were a bit too bright I think so I may go back with a thin coat of Baal Red - I haven't decided yet. I'd love to hear some thoughts.

Since the weather isn't great in Boston today I had some extra time on my hands and I used it to try my hand at making some combi-meltas for my far in the future Sternguard - this is what I came up with (the bottom one is mine, the top one is from the commander box):

I put up a tutorial with some more pictures in the tutorial section.

I like the cloaks a lot, they are very dark, from the photo it doesn't look like you have come up to too bright a red. The shot from behind the model on the left looks spot on.

They look like they would be a lot of fun too paint, they have plenty of detail and plenty of surfaces for blending and freehand.

    Great work.

Actually, sometime soon I'll be picking up a box of the Sternguard - they're just such nice models! But I won't have to buy two boxes, which I guess is something.

I had the day off of work today due to snow so I did a bit of converting and came up with these three guys:

They're going to be part of a future squad of Sternguard. From left to right, combi-melta, heavy flamer, and combi-melta. When I started the Crimson Fists I made a concious decison not to inclue and beak helmets or any bare-headed marines but since the Sternguard metals have two beak helmets I've decided to scrap that idea. This will also force me to paint more faces, which is something I'd like to get better at. I did make a point of including these guy's helmets on the models to make myself feel better about it.

I also did some more work on my Greylords:

They're coming along well. I think I'll tackle the metal bits next and then probably their faces (ugh).

Thanks, thus far they've been a lot of fun.

    Work continues on the Greylords:

Not much left to do so hopefully they'll get done by the weekend.

The contrast between the 2 reds looks beautiful. Smooth blends and wonderful depth, I can't wait to see the finished project.

    Ask and you shall receive.

The faces are a little weird but I had a lot of fun painting their beards (especially the eyebrows on the one on the left). The only thing left for this army is the Koldun Lord but I think I'm going to give a Rhino a whirl before I do him.

Thanks! I'm really happy with how the red has turned out.

Last night I started my very first tank, one of the two Rhinos for my Crimsons. All I've done so far is the blue and metals but I'm really pleased thus far.

The blue is an undercoat of Moradian Blue, a base coat of Regal Blue, a heavy drybrush with Enchanted Blue, and a light drybrush of Ice Blue.

I'd love to get some feedback on this guy since I've never done anything like it before.

    Thanks!
