Well it's about time I started this thread to start prepping myself for the new Tale of Painters. I have decided to roll with my true love of an army, the Raven Guard, and what better of a time than right now? New Space Marines codex, Assault on Black Reach, plastic Drop Pods.. it's a Marine player's dream come true, and just as sweet for Raven Guard as for other chapters.

This log will serve as a place for me to put any and all Raven Guard updates I come up with. I have a lot of big plans for this army, so hopefully it'll help me keep on task. I just recently got laid off by my job so my money is going to start being tight, but I'm in a comfortable enough position for the Tale of Painters army, so that is what I'm concentrating on first. I will also be posting up any other Raven Guard goodies - 'how to' guides if I write them, links to any tactics or fluff posts I make, and of course, pictures of everything else I include in the army outside of the Tale of Painters.

So, since I am lacking any models to show you all at the moment, I will go ahead and post my Tale of Painters list. I'm constantly tweaking it to fit more things in, but overall I'm very happy with it and not really looking too much at advice as much as just general comments.

Tale of Painters - 1000 points
Shrike
5 Scouts w/ 1 Missile Launcher, Camo Cloaks
10 Tactical Marines w/ 1 Meltagun, 1 Missile Launcher, 1 Power Fist (Sergeant), Drop Pod
10 Tactical Marines w/ 1 Meltagun, 1 Missile Launcher, 1 Power Fist (Sergeant), Drop Pod
10 Assault Marines w/ 2 Flamers, 1 Power Fist (Sergeant)

Extra:
1 Dreadnought w/ Multi-Melta, Heavy Flamer, Drop Pod

And here's a color-coded list of the models bought/assembled/painted that I plan on doing every month. This plan is subject to change!

Month I - 200 points
10 Marines w/ 1 Meltagun, 1 Missile Launcher, 1 Power Fist (Sergeant)

Month II - 235 points
10 Assault Marines w/ 2 Flamers, 1 Power Fist (Sergeant)

Month III - 195 points

In the future, I am planning on doing a multitude of Raven Guard things, including expanding my army (2000+ points, ideally up to Apocalypse scale within a year or so), rewriting my 'Designing a Fluffy Raven Guard Army List' article (original found here), and writing up a general Raven Guard tactica once I get some games under my belt with the new army.

Keep your eyes here, the Sons of Deliverance are headed this way, and they are ready to kick ass.

I like the idea of documenting the whole process of this army here, not just the painting. I'll be looking out to see what you have to say about drop pods since I'd like to have a few in my army as well.

I'm starting off pretty easy, mainly just the paint jobs. I'll definitely be experimenting with various things as I go, though, to see if anything turns out not to be a complete flop. I'll definitely keep everyone posted on how those go... for now, I'm concentrating on the first Tale of Painters deadline, which will be a Tactical Squad. Should be buying them soonish.

I've been working on my Ravenguard for the last year with slow going. You just gave me a lot of great informaton to work with. I've neded the help for some time. In one of your post's you spoke of a Ravenguard site. I'd love a link to the site. It's great to hear of other Ravenguard people out in the world.

mpcpe - the site I would have been referring to is the Sons of Corax site, created by one of LO's own members. I stopped posting there a long while ago, though, but the site has grown a lot since I was last there.

I've been thinking of doing a 'one-off' piece depicting Shrike's Wing using the new Vanguard veterans. I shall be following your progress for ideas...and who knows, I may just decide to carry on with the stealthy dudes!
