Thread: A Little Bit of Everything [WIP]

  1. #21

    Thanks for the comments everyone.

I spent a lot of work on these guys, and its good to know all that hard work isn't going unnoticed.

I think my next entry for ToP will be my unit of zombies. If you are a fan of vibrant colors, then stick around. My zombies are all converted and mixed with the old empire swordsmen, for a whopping 50 in all(only 25 are actually needed for my starting unit size so I'm not sure how it will work for ToP). They have the same bright colors of red, gold, and black, but their poofy shirts and tights makes them a bit more... flamboyant. Who wouldn't be afraid of a zombie with a codpiece and a feather in his hat?

Those wolfen will be posted soon I swear, it is just a hassle to get my photo area all set up and I felt lazy today.

On a side note, here is something I did about a week ago. I am not sure if anyone else will need this, but I will post it just in case.
Morghur is a special character for beasts of chaos, with an awesome looking model. Morghur does not come on a standard 1" base like everything else in the army. He instead comes on a ogre base. I don't always want to run Morghur as Morghur and wanted the option to be able to have him be just a shaman or beastlord. What I devised was a magnetized base that would fit on top of his normal ogre base and sit flush with it, yet still be able to rank up and stand without it.

I chopped up a cavalry base and drilled holes in it. Then I glued in rare earth magnets in the cav base and the original base. (I put red paint on the bottom of the magnets in the cav base, then placed it on the large base, and voila! I knew exactly where I had to drill the other holes.)

He sits perfectly on top(I even copied the exact slant GW uses on their bases with the green stuff), and if you pick him up the ogre base follows.

If you want to field him so he can rank with the normal skirmish unit he still stands up because his base is slightly longer than normal. The extra length isn't much of a problem because beast herds don't rank up perfectly anyway since they are just a mob of guys.

I don't know if that will help anyone, maybe there is some other special character that come on a weird-size base and you can take my idea.

With this description you intrigued my imagination and I would like to see them... How vibrant colors you think is vibrant for a zombie? I mean I always thought that zombies, given the fact that they are rotting undead, should be a little dull colored...

I will be waiting to see how you paint them, what colors you have used and the conversions you have done!

Glad to see I inspire mystery.

Some actual WIP, rather than finished models.

These wolfen need a couple more layers, and a bit of smoothing out, but hopefully you guys can get the basic idea. The people I have asked so far just think that the magical blades just look unfinished. I was trying to go with a dark obsidian/lava/fire thing. I have considered adding swirly runes on the blades, in hopes that that would make it look more intentional. On another note, how the heck do you take pictures of metallic paint and actually make it look good? It looks fine in person, but in the pictures it just looks awful.

Nice Wulfen... I really like the blue-grey you have pulled out and the red!

    Very smooth colors... very nice!

On the pictures side now, I would say to import the pics in a photo editing program, like Photoshop, and make all the corrections there to the pics using Levels...

very nice, the wash on his skin makes it so much more dramatic and i love the orange/red highlights on his weapons! rep

It isn't a wash, actually, just regular layering.

I hope to find a better solution on the picture taking end, rather than waste time in photoshop. perhaps I need more lights or something. The only color that is off is the metal, which is actually a rich gold color, not the copper that it looks like.

If you can afford two lamps with adjustable neck it will do miracles both for painting and photos. Take the ones with the long lamp (can't remember the name now, sorry!)...

    22 of these...seriously?

It has been a loooong time since I last posted anything. A slew of half finished zombies aside, I haven't worked on much in the past couple months. Until now.

I was hoping to unveil this badboy all at once when he was finished, but I was too excited to keep him from you guys. With some inspiration thanks to some people around in the eldar area I decided to take up painting some of my bikes.

I will have 18 guardian jetbikes, 2 converted warlocks, and 2 jetbike farseers (with mucho greenstuff sculpting) who will hopefully be a sight to see when it is all said and done. Considering how long it has taken me to paint just one bike to semi-completion it may take a while.

    Here he is:

Not including the warlocks or farseers, there will be 6 unique designs (3 of each) on my 18 bikers. Any suggestions as to any other types of stripes, swirls, feathers, fire, etc. are much appreciated.

    Frozen,

These bikes are awesome. They make mine look amature! (18 guardian jets, 2 lock, 2 seers sounds familiar lol). I will defininately need your inspirations to complete mine, for sure. +rep!

I really like those undead dogs (I can't remember the name of the unit for the life of myself >_<)
The scheme reminds me of raw meat. They look like they have no skin.

    Nice work
