Welcome to Librarium Online!
Good day little Librariumers.
Some of you may have seen me posting around, mostly in the Arena of Death, admittedly, but I have on occasion thrust my large and inquisitive nose into various painting related subforums as well. Having done so, I've become filled with a burning desire to get something finished. And, thus, a project log is born.
I should explain firstly that I am not a prodigious painter. This log is for me as much as for you. I'm a big fan of striking colour schemes and multiple highlights, but I can't blend worth a damn, I have no idea how to paint certain colours well, and my skin tones are appalling. So, please, bear with me, and instead of looking inside and thinking 'oh, average paintjobs' and wandering off... post some advice.
With that, here is what I plan to get painted over the next several months:

OK, just to show you what I'm doing/looking at.
My paint scheme (gaunts)
looks good on larger models too.
The purple is NOT that bright.
on the broodlord:
Thus far I've only worked out a basic colour scheme, but here it is, applied to the shield of a chaos warrior:
Damned if I'll paint my pink horrors in such an unmanly colour. So, angry red.
...and my Lord of Change, to be made Fateweaver.
The Gaunts certainly look striking but I'm not sure I like the electrical effect on the armour plates. Also, the genestealer scheme doesn't match your gaunts.
Not questioning your actual painting ability here, just how they all tie together.
sorry meant to add, keep it up and keep posting pictures.
Well, many people like naturalistic schemes for their nids, so that's understandable.
As for the stealers... fluffwise, vanguard units often have different patterning to make them better at stealth, and quite a lot of people paint them to stand out. My stealers all outflank, so really they're like a seperate army, and I painted them accordingly. The angry colour scheme contrasts nicely, I find, and gives the impression of excessive amounts of adrenaline pumping through them.
I really like both 'nid paint schemes,I'm looking forward to seeing more of them
Well, it's a new year but anything but a new start at this rate. I've been down with the flu, and that, combined with working when I've been capable of it - not to mention the social and family demands of Christmas and New Year (less than a week apart, very inconsiderate of this Jesus chappie to be born so late in the year...) and as such I haven't got much done.
But I've bought quite a bit (see first post) - a battleforce, and a pair of zoanthropes, which means I shall no longer have to buy any more nids and can focus on painting them up nicely for the tournament in March.
How, you ask? How have you managed to somehow make two tyrant guard materialise out of nowhere? I haven't bought them, and won't... I'm not convinced about the models, and they're damn expensive (£12 a pop!), and I need my money for a new PC and digital camera (good news for you lot, means you won't have to put up with crap pictures any more. Also have photoshop on order so I'll have a go with that when it arrives. My current camera is superb at picking out detail, but the flash is difficult to control and my photos are always perfectly in focus but either over or underexposed... grml)
With that little rant about cheap £10 jobbies picked up off eBay, I shall post... the tyrant guard.
As a bonus, I shall even post the tyrant, whom I spent a happy evening on the other year converting two sets of twin devourers on to.
I'm not sold on the tyrant guard look, but I think it looks better than the actual models. I find the 'masked' look particularly menacing.
NB: my camera also makes my greenstuffing look far clumsier than it actually is.
I like the scheme on all of the larger plates (the back plates), but not especially on the smaller ones, like the tail. Maybe just continue it over all the plates. For instance, you repeat the pattern on each of the plates, but you could copy it from an individual back plate, and put the one image over all the tail plates.
And pink is perfectly manly ><. Yes, this is coming from the guy who's painting his Necron army pink.
Hmm, I see where you're coming from. The idea was that this tyranid army had evolved for night assaults (because I ALWAYS roll bloody Dawn of War) and as such would appear towards the enemy as a flashing wave of chitin, the actual purple flesh blending into the night and only the armour plating standing out, which the enemy would hopefully shoot at.
For that, I really needed the edges of the chitin picked out, which this colour scheme does very well. Your suggestion definitely has merit, and, while not being something I'd have considered for the tyranids, is definitely something I'll try at some point on a spare model or another future scheme.
As for pink... I won't get into that, but each to their own, be it the colour of.... warriors or not. (heh, Top Gear. Nam special was superb...) I don't think it could be anywhere near as striking as red hot glowing horrors, though, unless I used pastel shades, which I will NOT do =D.
Pink crons? My curiousity is aroused. Any chance of a link or two to some pics?
Well, a new year needs a new year's resolution, and, rather than trivial cliched things like 'z0mg stop smoking' or 'exksersise more lulz' I have instead vowed to complete the trivial task of seven models a week, starting on monday (as tomorrow I am hideously busy, and a sunday-to-saturday week would confuse me), an easy one a day, painted to the best of my standards. This sounds easy, but my painting discipline is horrendous, and I guarantee that at some point in the year I'll slip and end up painting 7 gretchin or something on sunday evening in monotone colours just to make myself feel better. But I'm determined not to let this happen.
This will see all of the above armies finished by the end of the year, probably with some other models being painted in between... I have swarms of anonymous models from short-lived projects.

Yep: Pink 'Cron Only one that's painted, heh, I've been trying to finish me lizzies.
I definitely do not want to see one of those at night. The scheme makes sense now that you explain it.
