I just started fantasy, playing a few proxy games with my roommate and checking the rules a bit. And after the first few games i felt the game had so much more potential for tactics then 40k ( my oppinion ofcourse)
so i decide to start a warriors of chaos army project. And i'll be posting my progress on this thread.
there's a few things i am sure about in this army:
1: no marauders untill there a better models
2: no warhound models ( ugh hidious )
3: no mercy!
first i'll start with a 500 point army, not sure on the exact gearing yet, working on it but it's going to look a bit like this:
exalted hero with nasty gear.
2x block of warriors
5 warhounds ( with a different model, probably coldones)
i'll mostly be playing my roommates treehuggers ( WE) and i'll just see where i go from here =)
i'll give you guys some picks of my first 3 warriors tonight or when i have time, painted and ready for slaughter.
I'm pretty new as well and am working on making a Warriors of Chaos army. My first project is a few Chaos Daemons I got for Christmas, but after them I'll be jumping into the arms of the chaos worshiping mortals. Look forward to seeing your warrior's pictures, I'm going to try to get some up as well once I get working on them.
Goodluck and welcome!
I also find the current Marauders models to be *insert good word for very ugly*
But they are to good to be left behind. I'm also about to begin with a WoC army, and I have pretty much the same problem as you have.
So I started to look around, as to what other models might be usefull.
As I was planning on using mostly Nurgle marked Marauders, I find the Empire Flagelants to be a good choice.
I calculated and they cost about the same, model for model. You just need to find some shields/handweapons/bits to convert them a little.
oh and on you list, I personaly think a Hero is to costly in a 500 points game. Maybe go with a caster for some nice shooting support.
Or some chosen as point deny unit. the champion can take up to 25 points of magic items, so he'll make a nice general as well.
The Marauder models aren't THAT bad, Imagine armies of the old plastic chaos warriors?~Shudders~
Give them Chaos warrior helmets, gloves n weapons and put some jewlry chain on them and they start to look pretty fancy =P.
Although I've seen people use Empire Flagelants and they look pretty cool.
At 500 points an exalted champion with a shield and sod all else is nails enough. But against wood elves i'd go for a sorcerer of some kind (fire of tzeentch works well against tree huggers) and maybe the banner of wrath (magic missile one) that should have him running for er.......well the trees.
I'm also not a fan of the new or old hound models, I ended up using the old Wild cat model for my slaaneshii army. For nurlge there was that old Boar model.......NO idea if GW still do them though.
thanks man! let us slaugther everything and everyone in our path to domination!
owkee i'll be honest with you...i really don't like the marauders...but i also hate to paint muscles =P so the flagellants woudn't work for me, it's a good idea though. someone also came up with using bret. men at arms. Although the models look a bit...cute, I bet some arrows and bloody drapes would fix that right up.
yeah i tried using a lvl 2 mage with tzeentch 2 times, but it didn't really help me beat the elfs. Might have been bad luck so i guess i'll try them out some more soon =) the hero is just for fluff reasons i guess, some bad ass warrior leading a trusty warband looking for challenges...
anyway i'll put the model up in a few hours and i'm going to order the rest of my warriors and the 5 cold-ones tonight.
Well here they are guys, my first attempt on some fine chaos warriors. this is actually one of those try-out boxes =P
anyway, tell me what you think, should i contineu to work for the dark gods, or might i as well quit fantasy in total? be honest now!
Ow and i still need a name for this warband...any idea's anyone?
Yeah you should quit they look like crap.
Bloody crap that is so guess it's good. I like the models man nice colours and crisp freehands. Just keep it up so I can beat you some more . and then you can go and beat me some more at the higher points games
Names for the warband:
"PMS crew" "Hot heads" "Lava Eaters"

my friend, they look freaking sweet!
are you going to run Mark of Khorne?
I'd love to see that army when its finished (and its not even impossible, aangezien we beide in Nederland wonen).
If you like the Flaggies, but just dont want to paint skin, have them paint themselves in warpaint pre battle. paint theyr skin as you would paint your warrior his armour.
I always think that the marauders must look up to the warrior, dreaming about someday owning theyr own set of shiny red armour.
If you hate painting muscle the new GW washes are pretty cool. Or at the end of the day it's chaos. They don't have to be flesh coloured. If you're doing khorne why not make them so they've flayed themselves? So jsut use corded muscle showing with blood and gore dripping everywhere???
The Warriors are looking good mate, keep them coming.
Ok, How about small units of Forsaken? (units of 5 or so) They're fast, tough and even if only 2 get in combat with a unit of woodelves they'll mash them up. Plus its something else to covert. (although i am talking about skirmish hunting here not full ranked up units)
thanks for the reply's guys =)
first off i must say i'm not sure if it will be a khorne themed army, the red looks really khorny on the pics but it's gore red so it's a bit darker.
@maximus: hehe the warpaint is a pretty good idea..i might try that some time =)
@lord hmmz forsaken. i read about them but didn't really like it, but they might be worth looking into.
at the moment my proxy games against the treehuggers usually goes the same:
first 2 turns i loose my dogs and only a few warriors to glade fire, then i get charged and loose some more warriors but usually i hold. and at turn 3 my warriors fight their way trough his combat units ( most of it anyway) and either just fail to destroy them completely or win and still have to fight their way trough the glade guard of the remaining sworddancers. usually ending in the last unit of warriors dying by flank charges that the remnands of his army put out.
but i'm going to give a sorcerer another try the next game, see if he'll put out some damage this time =)
( i hate moving plates of tree's )
