Welcome to Librarium Online!
So I've always wanted an Ork Army.
They're mean, green and fight up a storm like nobody's business. With the release of the updated codex last year and new rules, they're better than ever.
The only problem is that in order to get the type of army I want, which is HORDE, it'd have to paint hundreds of boyz. And I have no desire to paint 150 ork boyz.
So, last year I commissioned a friend of mine to paint my rank and file infantry.
Here is the basic boy. Simple scheme, dark, gritty, and not too impressive:
Well, not too impressive until you put him next to 170 of his closest friends...
I did a few touchups here and there, mostly on the nobs to make them stand out a bit more:
But all in all, I had the complete backbone of the army I wanted to play without having to do any of the tedious repetitive painting that drives most ork players crazy.
AND, I get to paint all the fun stuff myself:
So here's the first piece that I painted:
I've got tons more to paint including:
Warboss on Bike
Big Mek + Kustom Force Field
Walking footslogger nobs + pain boy
Nob bikers + painboy (also a further commission by my friend)
6 Killer Kans (custom built and cast in resin by another friend)
1 Deffdread (ditto)
My new army looks like it's going to be a fun journey doesnt it?
I'm liking it. The boyz look good together, I think that is the thing about painting Orks. Alone the minis (normal boyz) tend to not look that impressive, unless the painter is taking ages to layer all parts of the boyz or have small mobs, the paint jobs tend to be quick. But, put them together in a mob/army and they really begin to show their quality.
I like your warboss. The pirate hat is pretty good, but might have been funnier if you had a gretchin/snotling in a parrot outfit on his arm. hehe.
Very nice color scheme and i love the pirate theme with the "parrot".
Nice clear pictures as well. Rep. for you!
As for commisioning, that is something I can understand. That's one reason I didn't choose orks. I'm a slow painter with little time on my hands. But I don't think I would feel right about letting someone else paint my stuff.
