Mission: Paint the majority of a 2k Ork Army in 2 weeks!
Alright, so here's the deal.
Almost a month ago I found out about a place that was holding a Rogue Trader Tournament in my Area. I've always wanted to be in a tournament, so I eagerly started planning out what army I could take and signed on to their forums to get more info. Unfortunately, I realized I had a lot of work to do in order to get an army that was well-painted and followed to rules of WYSIWYG! (you can never have enough Power Klaws).
This Project actually started Last Sunday, but I haven't had the time to update a Status Report.
Here is the initial Mission Briefing
1. Scratch Build 2x Power-Klaws, Konvert 2x Lightning Claws onto OOP Warbikers and Paint a GW Nob PK in addition to painting all of the Above.
2. Kustom Build 20x Shoota Boys by using old Boys Shoota Arms and the AOBR Slugga Boys.
3. Assemble, Prime and Paint 2x Trukks
4. Scratch-Build 2x DeffRollas
5. Assemble, Prime and Paint 10x Gretchin
1. Assemble and "Bulk up" a BattleWagon using Plasti-card
2. Paint a Warboss
3. Paint 5x Deffkoptas
1. Kustom build 6x Lootas
2. Confirm that all forces have been painted to a TableTop Standard.
Obviously, accomplishing ALL of this in 2 weeks (now with 1 week remaining) is literally Impossible to do (I was told in a previous post that I had a better chance of inventing a Time Machine and traveling back to 1968 and marrying Bridgett Bardot--maybe that will be my next mission
However, I love doing the Impossible!! So let's see how far I actually GET!!
Here are my accomplishments so far
Sun, April 5th --Assembled and Primed 1x Ork Trukk. I would've started on a second Trukk but then I got a call reminding me it was my Mothers' Birthday.
Mon April 6th--Assembled 10x Gretchin and 1x Ork Trukk. I would've liked to do more, but after playing games with my friends and fixing my radiator, I simply ran out of time.
Tues April 7th-- Painted the Previously Primed Ork Trukk (pics coming soon)
Wed, April 8th Nothing--too busy
Thurs. April 9th---Scraped the Mold Lines off of 14x pairs of Shoota Arms. Decided today would be a good day to Prime the Trukk, Lightning claws and Shoota Arms. Unfortunately I realized that I had left my Primer at a friend's house. I had to run over there and Prime everything within an hour of needing to be at Work (needed to be into work at 2pm, started priming at 1pm )
Fri, April 10th--Went to a "Paint Club" at the Store where I play 40k. Got 2x PK's assembled in 1.5 hrs (probably would've been faster, but this is my first time assembling). Got 10x Gretchin base-coated in Gretchin Green.
Sat April 11th Assembled and scraped mold lines off of 20x Boyz, started messing around with different washes for my Gretchin, and I got a good chunk of my next Trukk done. Total time spent...Roughly 5 hrs with some pauses and contemplation on what step I wanted to do next.
Here are some Pics...Enjoy
My First painted Ork Trukk--Need to work on some dirt and details
Trying out some Orange-ish, Yellowish, Sunburt Gretchin ideas.
Tell me what you think, especialy with the Gretchin! I'm eager to get some opinions and advice before I continue painting them
Sun April 12th and Monday April 13th Since I haven't updated this in awhile, I'm going to combine the past 2 days. Unfortunately--I've got some bad news. On Sunday, when I went to the Hobby/Gaming store near my work, I forgot to lock my Car doors while I was inside for about 4+ hrs, and someone tore through my car looking for anything valuable. They only took my digital camera, which was about $100 when I bought it a year ago...but it still pissed me off pretty bad!!
So, due to that, I'm not going to be able to post pictures for awhile. But at least they didn't take any of my Warhammer stuff.
Anyways, this is what I actually got done the past 2 days.
--Primed the AOBR Boys, attached the shoots (with some gluey, messy frustration) and then painted them Knarloc Green, and started washing some with Thraka Green (which doesn't seem to be dark enough, so I'll probably wash them again with Thraka Green and some Badab Black)
--Put the Baal red Wash on the gretchin and painted them a bit more.
--Finished the main body of the 2nd Trukk (still need to add some details and paint and attach the drivers)
--Attached the Lightning Claws to my Nob Bikers.

I'll be cheering for you to get this done!
May Gork and Mork smile down upon you!
Just uploaded some pics of my Progress today...
well, for a speedy project like this I guess they're ok. Otherwise the paint could definitely use some cleaning up and highlights
You've got a basic paint job done well, but they'd need tidying. But that was always going to be an issue in a project so short on time.
You're making good progress though. More!
Oh yes!! Of course!! This is ONLY a base coating for the most part and some washes for the most part.
The Trukk that's "almost" done has a lot of mixing of various paints (metallics, reds, Black and Brown) to make it look beat-up and Grubby..but still needs more work on the front areas. The Bed of the Trukk actually has more detail and there's dirt and grime applied to the sides a bit, but everything still needs highlights.
The Gretchin only have base-coats, "experimental" washes and maybe 1 layer of very basic highlighting...but I still need to paint clothing.
Trust me, You'll be seeing much more finished looking figures within the next few days.
So, what do you think of the Color Scheme for the Gretchin? I was trying to add some variety from the typical Green, and give them some more "goblin-ish" colors of Red,Brown,Yellow or Orange.

I'm gonna chuck this over into Projects, as it seems to be one.

Nice to see you have a project thread going! I read your shout for advice on gretchin skin tones in the Ork forums and thought I'd footslogg'it over here to see what inspiration Gork and Mork had brought you. Of the three skin tone pictures you have for gretchin I like the first and second one the most. The third one is to red! But, I think you should go for something between the first two pictures. Green, but with a clear biased toward yellow! I really like the idea your trying to distinguish them from their big brethren. On another note I really like the color shifting you have going on.
Wow, 2 weeks for 2k points worth of painting!? Yikes! I nearly broke down the other day when I realized that I purchase my 1000 point army about 6 months ago and I still haven't even cleaned all the mold lines off! I really don't know how people find the time to completely paint an Ork Hoard. i did complete my table though so now I actually have a decent surface to play with my "plastic grey" miniatures on. Getting distracted with the awesomeness that is Battlefleet Gothic didn't help wither!
Best of luck on your sprint to the end, it's good motivation and pressure for me to produce some results on my Ork force,
Unfortunately my camera was stolen, so I'm going to have to borrow one before I can take more pics.
