Rep Power: 66 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | They're Space Marine Scout legs. They start out like this. I added the shirt bottoms and carpace armor with green stuff. ![]() In other news I'm working on getting enough done for another update. I've got 5 IG squad fillers moving along and I'm about to finish up that space marine combat squad that I started so long ago. They were shelved for a little while so I could work out my 5th ed IG and terrain. Since I'm posting anyway here's a random WIP of all that stuff ![]() Besides that I'm hoping the new Russ kit shows up soon so I can start converting my magnetized vanquisher/exterminator command tank for the above Tank Ace guy. |

Finished up my first combat squad last night after some sitting around for a bit. I'll probably build the next 5 today. They've also got their drop pod and dreadnaught buddy on the way. Need to pick up a powerfist and I'm not sure if I should give them a multimelta or a HB. Seems like my only dropping tac squad might be better off if they're equipped to knock somebody off an objective with Flamer/HB. Forgot to add a couple more layers of boltgun on the melta. I'll have to do that. ![]() ![]() ![]() IG-wise I finished a new Sgt and the Company command's radio. Also plugging away at more magnets for the commander and working out ideas for a Navigation officer to use as an astropath (backpack full of maps, compases, radio equipment, ect). ![]() ![]() |

Nice work. Is the tank officer supposed to be the navigation officer there or did I just follow you wrong? If he is then how do you mean to field him? And willl this squad of marines not be the ones dropping? I ask because you mention a flamer but have painted up a melta. Personally I'd go Melta/HB for a solid mix of objective taking and tank busting. |

The navigator/astropath will be it's own model. The Tank Ace guy on the right could sub as a Master of Ordnance but since I'm messing with a magnet commander now as well I'll probably need to make another set of legs. Quote:
I'll probably end up using them as one of my ground squads to keep things simple. I just decided I'm going to leave out heavy weapons for the time being and keep pumping out enough standard marines, sternguard, and assault marines. I have a lot of IG stuff to buy so I won't get to a Devestator box for a while. I'm still toying with my list a little too. But right now I feel like painting my Tank Ace so I'm going to go do that | ||

Hey he's finished! One of my better characters to date I think. I really like him. Tank Commander Grimalder 74th Armored Division, C company 4th Squad. (counts as Pask) ![]() Don't mind the 3 year old tank. He'll be getting a shiney new one once the new kit comes out. I'll be converting Exterminator, vanquisher, and a battle cannon for it. ![]() It was a weird challenge to paint just a torso. I ended up drilling two holes in the bottom and making a wire loop to stick into some bluetack. It'll be even worse on the Company commander since everything is all seperate. With him done that's almost all of my characters accounted for. Once I get them all I want to do a little profile for them, but I'll see how far that gets. Now for a journy through history. I tend to go with the 'good guys' in games. When I started 40k however many years ago I immediately went with IG. Since then I've been looking for something non-human to play. I love skaven, but don't have the opportunity to play WFB. Orks are funny and fun to play with, but don't really appeal to me. I hate all things elf so that's out. Necron bore me from a list building and modeling standpoint. Tyranids are pretty cool and I've warmed up to them a lot lately, but I could never come up with a color scheme that I really liked. Last night I was inspired by who knows what. Lizard people! There's a minor race called the Tarellian "Dog Soldiers". They're mostly angry mercenaries with a bone to pick with the Imperium after their homeworlds were virus bombed during the great crusade. I intend to use the Ork Armylist. So my plans are using Saurus warriors and Temple guard with Ork arms as a base. I'll be cutting down their big head plate to look more like a metal helmet plate, adding more armor overall as well as scales to the ork shoulders. I have some bits on the way to make a few test models. A bunch of ork arms, some saurus, and one temple guard. I've got most of the models worked out; Boyz - Saurus Warrior Ard Boyz/Nobz - Temple Guard Killa Kanz - Kroxigor with heavy armor and weapons That's all I'd need for a little 500-750 list. I'm still trying to work out ideas as to what their vehicles would look like. I'd use ork trukks and whatnot, but have to figure a new style for them. |

Did a little photoshopping last night to start to figure out the style of these guys. I'm not really fond of the egyptian/witch doctor feel so I went a different route. Kind of future roman segmentata. Note this is only for the heavy armor types. The normal Tarellians will just have the undershirts, random armor bits and plenty of gear. It took a while but I think the Vermin Brown is the winner. I like the green of course, but I think I could use a new color. They won't really have a uniform as far as the shirts go, so don't mind the colors there. ![]() Now I'm waiting on those bits to see what's going to work. Your Raptors shall no longer go un-noticed. Did you notice mine? I take it you are using Catachan green. Where are you going from there? Oh, subscribed!

I did I was just posting over there actually. Didn't notice they were Raptors until you said so. I start with Catachan and do a heavy wash with Ogryn flesh or Gryphonne sepia. I just got this great VMC Medium Olive for a different project but ended up being a perfect highlight for catachan green. So win win win. The rest is Scorched brown and Bleached bone. |

Here's how to make a hotshot lasgun that I've been using on my stormtroopers. I took inspiration from this picture that's in the 5th ed IG codex. ![]() What you'd need. X-acto Small files Pin drill I start by clipping off the sights making sure to leave a little bit of the rear casing. ![]() Next chop the entire barrel off. Make sure to hold it so it doesn't go flying into space. You'll need it. The trickiest part of this is getting the wings off. Make sure to use a new-ish blade and carefully shave it off. Watch out for those fingers. It doesn't need to be perfect right now. Also chop the bayonette lugs off. Push the blade in at an angle to make a notch. I do this in line with the pinky finger on the hand. ![]() Shave the top edges of the casing to begin the rounding. Make sure to keep the notch that was made a hard edge. I shave one line, not worrying about roundness yet. If you look at the weapon from the top and break the casing into thirds, you're aiming to keep the center 3rd untouched and the other 2 are your shaved angles. That goes about the same looking at the sides but it's slightly taller. ![]() Chop the barrel to remove the little notch. Again make sure to hold it while you're cutting. It might need a little filing to make sure it's flat. Next take an X-acto or something sharp to plot out pilot holes. This could be whatever pattern. I do 3 holes on each side, then 2 on the top in line with the gaps between the 3. ![]() Once that's set drill out shallow holes That's it for the gun. Next up is some optics. You could use whatever. Take an IG heavy weapons optic. I use the squared glass end so make a triangle notch just behind the centerline. I use a round file to do most of the work. Chop the other end off and continue shaping ![]() ![]() That's it. Probably the most time consuming part of my plastic stormtroopers. Whenever I can find some more scout legs I'll try to continue this with a full stormtrooper, but the rest is pretty straight forward GS work. |
