I've always been a Blood Angel player, and after a large gap from the hobby I've decided I want to own the entire second company, every tank, droppod, servitor, the lot. I sometimes feel like this is the kind of project I'll finish in my retirement, but aiming small is for the weak
In this project I'll be covering all my planning, painting, and hair-pulling for all to enjoy and all constructive criticism is greatly appreciated, I'm not the best painter in the world but I'd like to get there one day
I'll save the rest of this post for a 'contents' page of photos, and start the actual photos in the next.
I'll be starting with my current WIP, Pax Angelorum/Angelicus, aka the 'flagtank' of the 2nd Company. I've applied no transfers or markings to it yet, I want to get a good feel of the finished tank first. So far there are about a dozen bits left to paint and attach: the heavy stubbers in the crew compartment, the banner pole, exhaust pipes, towhooks(?), and HK missiles.
Incidentally it's incredibly easy to make this swappable between Stormlord, Doomhammer and Banehammer - the U shaped piece over the Vulcan Megabolter kind of locks into place without glue or magnets, and it holds the gun down by itself; plus the parts that cover the back half of the firing platform rest nicely in place giving you the covered engine and restricted transport capacity.
I imagine I'll be putting a BA insignia on the 5 sides armour plate on the front, and another on the large top hatch.
I might try to make the headlights glow slightly, currently I will do this by highlighting just in front of them to look like they're on but if anyone has any idea how to make the actual lights look bright please share! You can see here where I painted the different tracks bronze, this is because they are made of bits of the tank, that had been blown off or wrecked in battle, melted down and reforged into tracks along with some blessed bronze. In spirit, this is the same tank that defended the Imperial Palace from those dirty traitors!
The top - I've tried to show slight scuffs on the firing platform, and I don't think I've done too bad a job of it. The idea is no battle damage, just 'fair wear and tear' so the techmarines don't get too angry when we bring it home at the end of the battle
There'll be another insignia going on each blank plate at the back, but considering I'll eventually be aquiring more sponsons (so I can have heavy bolters at the back to go nicely with my front mounted heavy flamers) I'll leave it until last in case I run out! Probably a small one on each outwards sponsor plate...
This is the bit I'm most proud of - there's more detail on that panel than on the rest of the frakkin' tank! Same question about the lights on the rear as I asked earlier... probably a insignia on the back of the main compartment, but I think the rear of the tank will be too busy when the exhausts are added for one there.
Speaking of exhausts, I want them boltgun-ish like the rest of the metal, only covered in soot around the tips but I have no idea how to do this! Any hints, oh Keepers of the Sacred LO Paintbrushes?
Sadly the camera on the iPhone is crap, but until I get my D-SLR next month these will have to do. (if the photos are a bit big, I'll resize them in a moment)
Impressive tank! im not familiar with Blood Angel fluff, do they actually field this vehicle with the 2nd Co.? collecting and modelling a whole company is an impressive task, looking forward to more updates!
Hehehe, no - this totally isn't official fluff but I'm going to make up some story behind it, create a proper datasheet for the rules and field it in every apocaplyse battle I can so as far as I'm concerned it will be fluff pretty soon
Nice work on that tank there! i like it!
Fun fact of the second!
Did you know that in early editions of WH40K all Blood Angel Space Marine's left arms were made of led?
Sometimes the best defense is a good offense... Wait, what?
that is (sorry for swearing) F*&^% awsome. can you actually use stormlord for your space marine chapters? didnt know that. i might get myself one then
FOR THE GREAT SANGUINIUS AND THE EMPEROR....red and black all the way.
Theme song for the Death Company. "Gory Gory" By the men of Easy company, 101st Airborne, 506.
otherwise you can just use it as it stands in the apoc codexs and just say that it is an allied IG unit, that way they can moan all they like its all legal.
anyways to the real point, painting is neat, my only real criticism is that theres no real depth to the colour, maybe apply some fine line highlights to the armour panels, or give it a wash of a devlan mud/baal red to bring out a little shade mate. Like I said above I intend on making one of these for my Black Templars for Apoc games as a transport for Helbrecht, Masters of the Chapter and Command Squad. Are you going to paint all those rivets? I did on my baneblade and trust me it makes it look real sexy, but you would have to do the shading with the washes to really make them pop.
I'm not sure on the rivets tbh, I can't decide. Have you got pics of your baneblade up?
I'll try adding some highlights to the panels, see how I go - if I mess up I can always paint some more blood red over the top!
This is the datasheet I'm using for this, my usual opponents told me to stick a Chronos clone in there to deal with the BS side of it, and I've added a variant of the chapter banner on it. I figure I'll probably never get to use the FC aspect of it but what the hell
Pax Angelicus - 800pts
