Welcome to Librarium Online!
With 8th edition, I decided to go a different route with this log, and actually keep it up to date. My plan is to be more than just a painted army, but actually an army with many different things added that will make it stand out of the crowd. I'm not a great painter, i'm not a good sculptor, and i have as much imagination as i can steal from others, so with these limited talent, i'll try to bring my Ogre Kingdoms to another level.
It's also important to keep in mind that i'm still learning the hobby while doing this army, so some things wont be as good as i was hoping, and some attempted technique might end up just f-ugly.
Paint challenge : I want an army that look like an actual cohesive army. I dont mean that everyone must have the same armor color and paint (they're Ogre after all), but i want to be able to put all the model beside each other, and say that they're all the same tyrant's army. For that reason, despite different pants, armor and even skin color (hey, even caucasian have different skintone), some things will remains the same : Gutplate are all weathered-copper-like color and rusted metal is all done the same way.
Base Challenge : To get a cohesive army while having more than just snow thrown on each base, i have to get something that ties them together. And here come my transport tray. He's not even built yet, but i already have idea on how to build it, and how to paint/base it for maximum effect. I'm even planning for some model that will be strickly for look and will never be played. There's no ETA on when that transport tray will start, but i'm hoping to have something to show around christmas.
Scratchbuilt Challenge : I'd really like to get a special piece, handmade, to be the centerpiece of my army. I might do it, i might get it dont, i'm not sure yet. Some tutorial seems interesting enough to attempt, but i'll have to see if i can find the motivation or not.
History Challenge : I want a history to bind my character together, and some of my core. I'm not looking at a 10 pages Novel, but something to explain why some unit are in my list. I already have a few ideas on which direction to go. The goal here is to have the story ready for the next big tournament (not the 'Ard boyz, as it only calculate the win record).
Gaming Challenge : I want to be a better General. I know that Ogres are not the best army, but someone really pissed me off in 7th edition when he asked to borrow an Ogre army for a tournament to prove they could be competitive. I know they're not as bad as they used to in 7th, so i'm hoping for some light at the end of the tunnel. My final goal is to have a winning record in friendly games. As of August 16th 2010, i'm 3 Wins, 1 Draw, 3 Loss.
Where i'm at :
1 Tyrant Ninja
25 Gnoblar Warrior
25 Gnoblar Warrior
Coming back from camping (700 km trip, at 55 mph in 3 days), i decided to paint a little more. That decision was helped by the fact that i received my Slave Giant, my hunter and my 3 Yethee....
But here is the dilemma... What color paint my next pair of pants...
Here's my 3 matches so far :
Ironguts : Knarloc Green + Iyanden Darksun
Leadbelchers : Iyanden Darksun + Macharius Solar Orange
Bulls : Mordian Blue + Fenris Grey
And here are my 4 maneaters.
I wanna try some smaller stripes, so it actually look like striped pants, but i dont know what color... i want to use foundation, for the fact that i wont have to paint over 10 times to get a good color.
Anyone got ideas?
They look pretty cool actaully but id recomend actaully put sand on the bases and painting it and maybe even adding some grass as it will add realism to the models. JUst me the bases make the ogres look... well unfinished to me.
Anyway, here's a little update of my work done...
- Skin isnt completely finished, but its how i'll keep them for now. No highlight, but the rest of my army got a pretty one-color-style skin anyway.
- Gutplate is done
Left to do :
wood on the weapons, guns, pants, shoes, bases.....
Here is what i decided to do with the pants... Fine stripes of blue and ?. the other color will most likely be Green or maybe Yellow.
I started assembling my new purchased that i finally received after 2 months...
3 Yethee (what were the chance of me getting 3 identical model?)
1 Hunter (one cat isnt completely greenstuffed yet.)
1 Giant (so many gap for a plastic model....)
To keep people interested during the summer, our club organized a season with quest that gives pts, with price at the end of those who had the most...
One quest is to paint 1 hero/lord during a day at the store.
So here how it went for me...
11:30 ; Butcher in black.
12:30 ; Skin is started, so is the apron. Since i want it white, i started with astronomican grey
13:30 ; Base color are paint on the weapon and bangstick. started paying attention a bit to the brain and guts around his wrist.
14:30 ; Shit it the fan. His arm falls off (damn crappy glue). Started on the details.
15:30 ; Grain on the bangstick are finished. Corrected a mistake with the apron (was painting blood on it, when i realized i was painting the exact same pattern as my other Butcher... looked weird)
16:30 ; Gore is added, final touch here and there. The butcher is considered painted. Skin has no highlight, but nothing in my army has any highlight on the skin yet, so he'll get them with the rest. Good news is that i bought the paint to do the highlight.
While waiting for my wife to pick me up, i kept painting a bit, and here's the final result as it sit at home.
Total time spent : 5 hours and 30 minutes, without any lunch break.... a slow painter.
