Hey everyone, I have decided I want to have a go at my own ongoing project thread! I figured I should do the army I have decided to put the most care into detail wise, and hopefully its to your liking. I started painting this army with the Khorne Exhalted Hero. He is easily one of my favorite models, both because of his pose and I am happy with the snow on his shoulders lol.
I also have:
5 Khorne Knights
12 Nurgle Warriors
10 Nurgle Chosen
1 Nurgle Spawn
1 Tzeentch Exhalted Hero on Disc
And I hope to add:
Unmarked Marauder Horsemen
More Warriors and maybe more knights/chosen
Enjoy the hero for now, I am very sleepy and will post some WIP pics of the stuff I have tomorrow. C and C is welcome and necessary to keep me motivated Thanks
Really not sure about the snow on the actual model mate. Obviously living in texas snow would not not be something you would see in a great abundance, but why would something that is subject to constant movement end up with snow resting on it? Only time I have ended up with snow has been when sniping in my ghillie suit, where you have to lay motionless for long periods. Something you may want to consider before you do it on other models.
thanks for the comments guys!
HappyJim: yeah i really want to redo the gold. I painted this guy over a year ago and my metals weren't too good back then. I think I will touch those up. Good call on washing the metal also, but I'll probably leave the armor plates alone as I like the shading and am afraid I'll do something dumb and mess them up
MrDee I actually thought a lot about the snow on the model for that exact reason. I wanted to give a snowstorm feeling to the terrain of the basing, not simply 'snow' (that being said, I do need to heap up the snow on the base) Most of my models just have a light dusting on the shoulders, but as his pose is more menacing than dynamic, with the windswept cloak and hair, I thought some more snow would do to give direction to the perceived environment.
And now... More Pictures!
Tzeentch Exhalted Hero on Disc WIP: I went for chrome shield, horns, and shoulder pads on this guy, I think it needs a gloss coat to really work maybe? Or maybe I just need to finish it for the full effect This is another old paint job that needs some touch ups on the metallics, put I would love any advice on the chrome in particular
Beast that will be a Spawn
And my personal favorite, my Khorne Knights:
C & C welcome and appreciated! By the way if anyone looking follows Jon Quixote's painting comp. you know I didn't do too well Hopefully these shots are better quality and if anyones interested I may throw up a better picture of my ork entry on this thread as a bonus pic! Cheers!
Well i think the weapons on the chaos knights pretty cool, i like the fact you have used a 5th ed chaos warrior champion for a tzeentch simply because it dosnt make me feel as old! the problem is everyone has their own style of painting, with for example when i paint bone i tend to start with brown (snakebite) and work my way up to white. I think its great you have added the cloaks onto the chaos knights as atleast im not the only one who didnt like the lack of them!
Not so sure about the chosen, maybe a better picture? It would be great to see a better picture of your entry
HappyJim: thanks for the comments! yeah I wanted to really go for a frozen north theme, so I was going for a ice bladed effect for the knights' weapons. As for the bone, I really need to touch it up. One nice thing about doing a project log that I'm noticing is that pictures really highlight weaknesses in my painting and show me where to improve. I get lazy and think 'Oh those skulls just look a little roughed up. It's... more realistic!' and than I put down the brushes
Speaking of touch ups though, I've revisited my Khorne Exalted Hero, and applied what I've learned since my first attempt:
Again, after seeing those pictures, I see more that I need to fix I will be giving the same treatment to the knights though definitely. I am also considering putting chaos runes on my knight champion's armor and horse's armor in blood red highlighted with blazing orange... Thoughts on that anyone?
Also, as promised, new pictures of my entry in the painting competition! Hopefully the lighting is a little better on these. For some reason its really hard to photograph this guy well...
yeah actually i didn't even realize until you said something.. I forgot to touch up the skulls I'm going to go over them to clean them up, but I do like the bleached white look, similar to the skulls on the warrior on the cover of the armybook.
