Although I have over 14,000pts of marines painted to a reasonable tabletop standard I want to paint an army for myself that will be able to field upto 3000pts, eventually, and look top standard.
With my commissions and such it will take a long time, but I think worth it. So with the new Codex out with some great new models Blood Angels it will be.
I've been working a little here and there on a figure I will eventually sell (doesn't fit my army) mainly to get my idea of red dialled. I think it is working as I don't want any silly bright highlights and fancy doing my BA's a bit deeper in tone.
So, here is Chapter Master Gabriel Seth about half done.
Very nice. I really like how Seth is on a bigger base then the standard GW, looks like he's going to be hitting more folks of 40k with his chainsword. Also I love the red! How did you do it?
Rep for you
He is looking ace so far, I really like the red. Really looking forward to seeing more, given the standard of your other models I have seen.
Ghosts of Ulsa (Nurgle CSM) - 0/1/0
Vampire Counts - 2/0/2
Wicked! I love your painting and the new blood angel models are great.
Please tell me you'll be doing some sanguinary guard (or perhaps the sanguinor?)
And maybe a Lemartes?
I look forward to seeing this project progress
I will give you my opinion on him when he is done.. right now I don't like him for some reason. Maybe it's because he is not finished, I don't know. :p
VERY cool to see you start Blood Angels. They are awesome. I want to be painting Blood Angels myself but I won't give up my Black Templars. For a deep clean red armor I would shade it with a dark blue with some black in. Maybe give it a touch of devlan mud? Curse on you, now I want to paint a Blood Angel character.
Looking forward to this good luck!
He has a angry, confused and I need to poo face!
There seems to be a tendancy at the moment particularly in the artwork coming out of GW in respect of the Blood Angels to make the highlights on the red look pink....now they may be angels and some of them may have wings but I think to make them proper fairies is just plain wrong and to all those that will say real men wear pink....no they really don't. I totally agree with you on the darker red point is what I am trying to get at in a long winded round about way After all blood is not bright red unless you have some weird disease
And by the way mate was there much in the way of flesh tearer iconography on that sculpt as I have been contemplating converting him into an emperors champion?
Ooo, a personal army. This will be interesting. I like him so far, however, I think the armour is perhaps a tad too dark in places and a bit too glossy. But we'll see how he looks when finished.
Thanks guys.....I feel the faith. ;-) Hopefully I'll not disapoint with my new army.
Reeses: Cheers! Glad you're liking the look. The red is fairly straight forward. Start with an undercoat of black, then base coat this Scab Red. Once dry I applied a wash of devlan mud. (I want the armour to look a bit dirty). Following on I applied a couple of thin layers of Scab Red over the mid tone and highlight areas finally working upto Blood Red layers for the brightest areas.
Andrew 88: Cheers, hope you enjoy following this.
Dilemmachine: You are kind mate. Yea, I've purchased about 1500pts off stuff and got it in boxes next to my bench. 10 Sanguinary, 10 Assault marines, 10 Death company, The Sanguinor, Astorath and Lemartes.
I'll be adding (when time/money allows) 20 Tac marines, 3 pods, 10 sternguard, 2 LS Typhoons and some other bits I've not sussed out yet.
Almberg: You are always welcome mate. Got to say that the new characters are damned good, and the new sprues for the BA are the best detailed pieces GW have ever done. Comparable to Tamiya military models! Anyway, hope he works for you when done.
Mr Dee: Glad we are of an accord. Deep reds look good. You'll be pleased to know that the main figure only has obvious icons on the right knee and left shoulder pad. The power pack only has a little too. Ripe for converting!
Kuffy: Cheers for your thoughts, as always. Yea, there is a bit of shine which I hope to dull later with some matt varnish. Some of the darker areas are intentional as his cloak will be over those areas.....unless you've noticed a different bit! ;-)
Half done ? Half done ? He's better than anything i would hope to paint now ! As always i am impressed with your work And justice, but seeing as how even you are criticising the paint job i'd feel a lemon giving you rep for him. Have to wait for some finished articles. Looking forward to them.
Jager bombs. Very efficient at wiping out friend or foe.
Oi! you better not be doing your Blood Angels any faster than I am Glad to have someone I can steal Ideas off though
He's looking good mate. The red is nice although I think it could do with a Harsh highlight here n there but otherwise it's good. I'm dissapointed that you used that head though..personally I hate it!
