This thread is going to cover the progress of two armies, maybe more, taking part in the horrific siege of Vraks. I will be completing a mech Death Korps list with plenty of armoured support! Next up in the thread will be a nice air cav Elysian list from Flayedone.
Ive spent the last few weeks messing around with basing materials and spending lots of money! I nearly have the enture force in boxes. Just need to get three chimeras and two mars alpha hulls at the meet and Im ready to rumble.
I want my bases to look like wet mud, plenty of different colour variation. I want to make some special bases with mine field markers and barb wire on, perhaps an odd one with a mine on too!
Here are some tests! Mixes of soils, sands, wall filler, plaster and general oddments!
Mistake made! The top fell off!
I think I will be proceeding with this one. Soil, varish, various washes of greens and some spot varnishes too.
More to follow soon, I will post some snaps of the horde of forgeworld bags and cheap/free tanks FW sent me.
I concur with the general sentiment of it being good sounds like you are making good progress on these fellas too, but are you leaving the Vendetta till last?
Thanks mate. Yeah, Ive managed to get a little time together to get these paintined quiet quickly the last few weeks. The Vendetta is last on the list as, well, I don't really know what colours to do it!
And what about using them in general? Are they difficult to use? What about cleaning your brushes etc? I'm sure I'd have to stop licking my brush to keep a point.
Oils are not difficult to use really. They need to be applied in small amounts as they are really powerful, but can be completely removed with thinner.I use different brushes for acrylics and oils/pigments. As you wash your brushes in thinners, using them again on bare acrylics is going to ruin the surface. Don't lick them!
Finished the last two russes. Day off from painting today. I was going to take an army shot, it now depends on what time the missus returns from London, she has lost her memory card for her camera, so mines gone along with her. Tomorrow I hope to get a few varnished and ready for pigments!
I am nearly there with these guys now. Its been a busy weekend of gerdening and DIY (abd ab evening of my Dark elves whooping everyone at 500 points but hey ho). I need to paint the lenses, plasma coils and colour in the tracks, which could be done tonight fingers crossed.
I am going to warhammer world on saturday for what is becoming our monthly gaming sesh, hope to take some army shots there.
Dan
Edit
Paints done, just need to colour them in with lead and its a finished job!
They look real good Dan, well done! The effects are subtle from a distance but they're really astonishing when looked at closely. Some rep well deserved!
Mmmmh feta

Im at WHW tomorrow, I will take some with nice scenery there.
Only two Krieg tank commanders, tank commander commisar and the vendetta. Should be completed by the Meet easily!
Hmm, Had a half day today to meet the broadband engineer. Slot was between 1-6. Turned up at 4.20. I was dying to go out and sort the garden but couldnt leave the house for fear of not hearing him knock....So spent the afternoon painting with the windows open! The engineer said in very complex terms, 'the internet is complicated, its a suprise it even works.' Well after some minor miracles it now needs some other guy to press some special buttons, then my 480kbs will become 8mbs! Hurrah.
I painted both the standard commanders, then started Commissar 'Pask' commander of the plasma russ 'Vengenace', after a spell in the garden he is done! Really pleased with him, the cording on his shirt thing and the medals, (blue for killing boys and pink for killing girls.) Looking forward to painting the mounted commisar in the diorama this summer.
Yesterday I started the day of buy saying what his medals are for, then reminding everyone that more pink medals will be required for killing girly blood angels! Im pleased with the golden shirt thing, a chance to use golden brown and some low lights. The mounted commissar will be the same.
He looks very unimpressed as to what he sees in front of him, but a man of his stature and fancy coat must always be tough on his troops! I like how he looks, great work.
Thats probably because yesterday a drop army of blood angels fell on the front of his tank, he lost both his lascannon and the executioner cannon in a turn. The drop force did get massacred in front of his treads though!
A few of us visited WHW yesterday for some games. I took some army shots.
The game was the Krieg and Elysians vs Eldar and Blood Angels drop list with 5 Objectives. The Blood Angels all fell on me, Elysians held in reserve and the Eldar quickly captured 3 objectives. After a short 3 turns, the Blood Angels were completetly destroyed, The eldar were without transports and only held their two home objectives, the Krieg held the destroyed titan and where closing on a building objective after wiping out the Blood Angels, the Elysians had lost a vendetta and had taken casualties from an exploding falcoln but were pressing on the Eldars home objectives. All in all a good game, its a shame we couldnt complete turns quicker or get lunch delivered!

Looking good mate! The thanks have definitely "completed their look" and the army in a group looks awesome. The commisar looks good too, complete disdain for the enemy added!
Sounds like you did well in the game as well so congrats on that, BA are for girls it is true, nice to see courage and cold steel saw them off!
Thanks mate. Hope you can see them at the LO meet 2011! Pask makes such a mess of anything in his way! Its great to have a horde of marines sat in his front arc praying he misses!
With the reliability of my car at the minute I hardly dare go to work most mornings for fear I won't get home, but if I get a new car I might pop down... he says...
For the Vendetta, do you want a camo pattern, something covered in decals ("distinctive paint scheme") or something fairly plain with a few squad markings?
Dan, why not stick with the similar colours to the tanks? Make it fit with the army. I might be cool to try and give it some personalisation though, like a badge near the cockpit with a nickname or something?
Been ages since I've had time to sit and look at what everyone else is doing. Your models are looking great. Makes me want to do some proper 'war' looking IG too!
One of the good things about having almost a year off LO is that when you come back you can luxuriate in a thread like this. Absolutely outstanding stuff mate, you've clearly devoured the Forgeworld Modelling masterclass book and really started to perfect the techniques they discuss in there, the army looks fantastic- really looking forward to seeing the Vendetta!
Your models are as good as the spanking we handed out saturday mate!
Anyway here is my long awaited (I hope) update. over the next 3 months I aim to get these guys as close as close to done as possible for the meet.
Here we have the done pile:
Bastone squad and vet squad with dettas:
My nearly finished pile:
....and my to do pile it looks allot but it breaks down to harkers squad, 3 dettas (one still needs purchasing), and 2 command squads. If I can get all the models built and painted by august I'll be happy bases will be a bonus!
Hope you guys are not too ashamed of me (head hangs low aswell as bottom lip)

Smashing work Dan. I love the army pics on the WW tables, they look like the badass Guard they have always been depicted as in the background. The type of men who throw themselves on barbed wire so their buddies can use them as a bridge to advance.
I really like that scheme. I am also a big fan of the Imperial navy scheme in the book (on the Marauder bomber I think) but the one you just linked to will suit the general paint scheme of the army better I think.
