Ive finally got most of my models and decided to start building and painting and after reading a few other projects decided there wasn't enough fantasy projects so decided to make my own.
So far i have:
2 Boxes of Spearmen
2 Reaper Bolt Throwers
Standing and Mounted Mage
2 Boxes of Dragon Princes
2 Boxes of White Lions
1 Box of Phoenix Guard
I will get some picture of my Dragon Princes and see what you guys think.

So heres my Dragon Princes they are mostly finished just a few final touches to do such as gems and bases to do.
These were my first i painted due to them being my favorite unit and the first ive painted in about 5 years so they aren't amazing but im happy with them.
This is my Champion. As you can see i went for a rather dark colour scheme and many of my friends have said they are more like Wood Elves than High Elves but i saw so many bright colour schemes that i thought i would be different, hope die hard High Elf players dont hate me
Thats the unit as a whole. What do you guys think?
Sorry for the pictures but i am a rather shoddy at taking pictures.
Next up my 2 Reaper Bolt throwers.
They look more gritty than most High Elves, I like them. Especially since they're your first unit after five years, not bad at all! Are you running them as a unit of 10?
If I may, I'd clean them here and there and add some edge highlights to the metal and green.
Cheers, keep it up!
Yeah they will be a unit of 10 atleast for now. I know what you mean they still need a little more time on them but i was excited and i wanted to get a full unit done to show the colour concept.
I wanted them to be a bit darker as my personal opinion is that some times High Elves do look a little bit namby pamby (which i am aware is not a word but hey!).
This also bought the idea to make the White Lions into Black Lions if that makes sense?
Also any tips on painting gems coz for the life of me i cant get them right!?
Their's definately something called overpainting, i do it often! Unless you intend to take them to enter into golden demon i would'nt worry about them looking unique for just gaming with and showing to your mates etc i'd be really pleased with them if i were you.
One suggestion though is that you don't seem to be thinning your paints very much, try saving bits of sprue to test paint viscosity and drying times on.
That is one thing I can honestly say I never fully understood is thinning paints. It may sound noobish of me but is it a case of building up the layers of a few thin coats rather than one heavy coat?
I think as well that HE are too often namby pamby I, for one, tried to go for a colder look. Don't know how much but I think I've managed that somehow and yeah, my Spearmen do not look like they'd like to drop their weapons and go dancing on meadows. To me, at least.
10 at least? They sound many to me, although I've never really fielded DPs. Many people here on LO like to run units of 5-6. But hey, your army your rules.
Black Lions is an intriguing idea, but be careful 'cause you could end up messing the piece, I fear. But worth a try
I actually find gems very easy to do:
-start painting the whole gem black;
-paint roughly 2/3 of the gem in a colour a bit darker than what you're aiming for;
-half of the gem in a lighter colour/chosen colour;
-little crescent moon on the bottom, painted in a very lighter colour (I use white for blue to light-blue gems);
-little white dot on the part you left black.
Apart from that, there's some useful advice on the HE book.
Hope it helps,
I think you misunderstood what I meant about the DPs I wouldn't use a unit bigger than just that I'm going to use them as a 10 then maybe two 5's just experiment see what works best.
I understand about the WL them having black pelts could ruin them maybe I'll do a White WL and a black WL and put it to the vote.
I was seriously thinking about using Wood Elf archer models instead of the HE ones 'cause the HE ones to me do look really namby pamby (think that phase should be copywrited)
Yes, I definitely misunderstood it. And I agree with the vote thing, nothing better than doing both and then decide.
Although namby pamby (C) I think the HE Archers would work better, the Wood Elves are just too "woody" for me. Plus I love painting their robes But then again, your army, your money, your decision.
I guess i should atleast give them a chance. I was always told to never judge a book by its cover so maybe when painting or building ill find something that makes me change my mind about them.
I shall try to get some models done today depending if they havent fixed the LPG leak at work which is not the best thing to have at a Petrol Station
