Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am indecisive and therefore impossible to tie down to a decision so thought that I would let the lovely people at LO make the decision for me. So this is the concept, a 1500pt army that is modelled on the Star Wars Universe using some of the parts and minatures from the Star Wars Roleplay as it is the same gauge. The question is which codex and army to build it with?
The choices are all there and want a real consensus of opinion, I am not the most amazing painter in the world but am always willing to give things the best go I can. Recommendations on a postcard please!:
Hmmmm.... tough call, but I'll throw an idea or two at you
I would go with Guard for the Rebels. Granted, the commanders look more like the Empire and they already have "stormtroopers" but I think the average guardsman looks more like a rebel fighter.
For the Empire... maybe SM's or CSM?
I can see some power swords painted up in a glowing light-sabre style...
Tough call, but sounds like fun!
Both can be done very easily with the Guard Codex. For the Rebels you can just do normal guardsmen with platoons and the like. Hell they even have rough riders for those weird things from Hoth they rode around on.
For the Imperial army you can use guard again but use Veterans in Carapace armour and Storm Troopers. Supported by Sentinels and Rough riders (Storm troopers on those Jet bikes)
If you're after Jedi type blokes grab an inducted Inquisitor and give him equipment/pyschic powers to match.
How many Valkerie kits would it take to kitbash an X-wing?
(?)conscience = pocketbook
This project screams "Imperial Guard" for me
"Welcome to the Imperial Stormtrooper Marksmanship Academy. We make up for any lacks in Ballistic Skill with sheer quantity of laser fire. Now lets start with the basics: First Rank Fire! Second Rank Fire!"
Revenant Moon Necrons: (W/L/D) 0/1/0 (6th edition: 13/2/2)(5th edition: 14/6/4)(3rd edition Codex: 16/4/7)
XIX Legion: (W/L/D) 0/0/0 (5th edition: 14/12/2)(5th edition Codex: 4/3/0)
Black Legion: (W/L/D) 1/0/0 (6th edition: 2/3/0)
Something Wicked... Reikwald Beastmen: (W/L/D) 10/4/1
I think Tau would make a good droid army as they almost are a droid army anyways. The asthetic is similar too with their tanks looking nigh on the same and you could do some cool devilfish conversions to make those tanks with the droid racks in them.
Ah, The project I never did.
Stormtroopers = stormtroopers. You can kitbash/convert some stormies with Cadian Torso's, SM arms, and marine beakie heads with "mandibles" - however you want (rod with drill may be good here)
Officers = The Catachan / metal bits pack peaked cap, with the Cadian officers medal chest. arms = soft covering old tank upgrade sprue / baneblade arms / cad cmmnd sprue.
Navy troopers = cadians with a fishbowl head. (It's a shame you can't take stormies as troops now the grenadiers doctrine has gone)
Sentinals = AT-PT's, You could try to convert a AT-ST to count as a Leman Russ
Allies = now dead (boo) - Power weapon wielding allies = Sith (for lightsabers get a bunch of coloured acrylic rod and attach to handle) - necron players would know how to get this / ebay
Rebels? Convert a Tauntaun, or wollen gear up a bunch of cadians for hoth. I think Pig Iron heads do something similar (if memory serves)
You could try for endor commandos using Catchan heads maybe
Speeder bikes for rough riders? Wookies would make good ogryns, Ewoks (sigh. oh well) would make good ratling snipers.
Good luck and you MUST put up photo's if it gets a go-ahead
