A wee little side project. Yeah another one I know but hey, I needed to remind myself I can paint character models properly and what the hell! It feels like I haven't painted something well for AGES!!!!!!
This is a conversion of a FREEBOOTER model. Supposed to be of, and eventually for, my Mrs. Obviously it's not finished yet (obviously) but it's getting there. Need some friendly tips from you fine youngish fellows. My Camera isn't brilliant so you don't see the highlights well enough nor the blending. The eyes are actually highlighted bestial brown, not that you can tell. I'm hopefully seeing my mate on Saturday who has a decent camera so will take some proper photo's then.
1) What colour to do the trims on the knee pads and boots?
2) What colour shall I do the buckles?
If it was me painting, I would do the buckles metallic, a dark shade tho, trims id do same colour as the shirt.
Or ask the Mrs. , if you really cant decide
I think the dark metal for the buckles sounds like a good idea, so I'd give that a try if possible.
The trims... Hmm, well, I'm not a great fan of having too many colours on a model, and you've already got black, brown, red, skin, and cream... I think I'd be choosing black, brown or red, but in all honesty it looks brilliant as is, so I can't really decide! Were I doing it it probably just finish the buckles, do some highlighting on the boots and call it done.
Oh poo, I worded that a bit badley. I mean "what colour shall I do the STRAPS on the buckles?" Hmmm. I think you're all right about keeping the palet limited. Maybe I will keep it simple. Trims will be white and maybe the buckles too?
Right, new question. The stockings. Black lace (highlighted up to flesh) or............white lace stockings to keep the pallet limited?
Rinn: That would be very easy!! Shame it's a suprise for her.......
Oh, PS: I'm thinking of doing the sword a bluish metal with Gold hilt and swirly bit (Can you see that?)
Erm, yeah kind of like a power weapon I suppose. I will only be a blue tint but not painted blue if you know what I mean. I was going to mix some sky blue ink with Boltgun Metal and then blend up with chain mail and highlight with mithril. Just to make the blade look enchanted.
I’ll try the stockings in black. Mainly because I’ve no idea about how to do white stockings and the only way I can think of doing it sounds quite complicated, which increases the chances of me screwing it up!!
How about doing the trim on the knee pads gold? The arm band (on her right arm) will be gold, so will the hilt of the sword and so will her ear ring so it will fit in maybe. Heh, I guess I’ll see what the model looks like after I’ve done the stockings.
Gold sounds good, yea, but do the stockings first as you said there, then you can already see if the gold would work.
I think I know where you're heading with the weapon, sounds allright, but to give any constructive input id really have to see a bit more since my mind is totally blocked by math(stupid exam!)
Me like! Stockings are very nice, now that I see it I think gold for the straps would be good, perhaps a bit dimmed down tho so they don't steal all the attention away from the nice job you did on the stockings.
