    D-machine's painting log

Been a long time since I've posted on the forum but I've recently had more time to get back into painting. Definitely some cobwebs to shake out...

My current goal is to paint up 500 pts each of WoC and VC to start each army (mine and my brothers) and work my way up from there 500 pts at a time.
I already have 2000 pts for each force, the 500 pts of WoC is assembled and primed and the 500 pts of VC is still being assembled (except skeletons)

I'll post the army lists at some point soon (for anyone interested)

But for now, the one unit of each I've been working on so far (Vlad has already been painted for the VC in an old project thread)

These guys still need shields and my apologies for the mould lines etc... my brother assembled these before I showed him how to do it correctly...

Chaos marauders still need shields and bases done, and looking at the picture I need to fix the champion's eye(s). Banner was my first ever attempt at freehand, I'm satisfied with it especially considering my lack of artistic ability and the fact that I can't even draw

    Reverse shot of same marauders.

Tips, pointers, comments, suggestions are all very much encouraged

    More to come soon hopefully

So after much deliberation and research I got an airbrush today - Badger 150, dual action, bottom fed. Must say I love it so far.
After seeing what some people can do with them I knew I had to get one (redarmy for one).
So in about an hour and a half I did the flesh for the rest of the marauders. I may need to do some highlighting by hand I haven't decided yet.
    I did:
    1. Spray tallarn flesh
    2. Spray 1:1 tallarn flesh, dwarf flesh
    3. Spray 1:1 dwarf flesh, bleached bone
    4. Spray ogryn flesh

I think once I get some other parts painted I'll be able to decide whether it needs more highlighting. Let me know what you guys think!

So, a small update as I'm a pretty slow painter and have been playing with my airbrush a little bit.
Getting close on the 2nd rank of marauders, they need a final highlight on most parts (not flesh it's done I think)

Here's a picture of what's waiting in the wings - marauder horsemen, sorceror, chaos lord, corpse cart, giant (lower shelf) and a couple of leman russes I've been playing around with.

And as promised, the army list for the WoC (I made it before 8th edition, hopefully it's not entirely useless now...)

    Chaos Lord
    Barded Steed
    Shield
    Armour of Damnation
    Chaos runesword

    Chaos Sorcercer

Alright so I've done a little bit more work on these marauders and the first 2 ranks are complete (minus shields of course)
    Here's the completed 2nd rank

    A solo close up

    And a group shot

Let me know what you think folks!
Hopefully the 3rd rank will be completed soon and then I'll do all the shields in one go.

So I found something kicking around in my basement, I'm going to try to paint this gentleman to the best of my ability and he may end up on ebay.
First afternoon sees the flesh more or less done and a solid start on the red (many worked up layers and a wash, I think it needs further highlighting).

Let me know what you guys think and any ways I could improve him.

Looking nice machine. If I had to give a tip I think maybe the reds need darker shadows. Have you the grey finished or is it just the basecoat?

I'm loving the WoC and Skellies. Some great skintones/bonetones.

Thanks chemicalcaveman, as you suggested I darkened the shadows on the red, did some layering up on the armour plates (still needs more work), and started on the metallics.
Let me know what you guys think!

Well look at that. I don't wanna just say 'nice painting man' so I will let you know the bits that jumpd out at me most.

Your skeletons - the vibrancy of the bone colour pops so much. I cant put my finger on what it is but they really appealed to me
As has already been mentioned - Flesh tones on those marauders... really great work mate and I will be having a go at your technique.
That red cloak - once you deepened the shadow, man it looks lovelly! solid work and deserving of the meager rep i can offer!

REp to Chemical... too for reccomending deepening the shadow
Night gathers, and now my watch begins.
