    210th Armageddon

"A mixed regiment of criminals, backwater yokels and light armour? Emporer protect us!"

    Welcome reader!
Part motivation, part ego booster and part consoltation, I've started this thread in the hopes of getting my small imperial guard army, which I began a year ago, on the gaming table!
Currently the regiment stands at 20 guardsmen, two Chimera transports, two scout Sentinals and three CO's with another 10 guardsmen on there way. In the coming months I'm hoping to double this number, with a lot of emphasis on light armour such as Sentinals, Chimeras and eventualy some Hydra AA batteries.

So, a little background on the regiment:
    - Combination of three regiments during the third war for Armageddon
    - Savlar Chem Dogs 32nd (vets + penal), Ruis 14th (guardsmen + HQ) and Armageddon 612th (armour)
    - Light armour carry the heavier weapons, infantry stay light
    - Few (if any) elite units

It's certainly a fluffy army, but we'll see how that goes on with time.
    Anyway, onto the mini's!

I've only recently begun work on the Savlar units in the army, mostly due to them being the most time consuming in conversion and modling.
Here are the two I've recently completed:

While I'm happy with how the masks have come out, they seem a tad oversized for mere breathing masks. (Specificly concerning the guardsman without the helmet)
I'm also thinking of modling some carry bags for their fellow guardsmen, such as satchels or backpacks, so they can keep all there stolen loot and such.
But with cadian mini's being what they are, I may need to get creative with some...

    Q.
Considering they're a mixed regiment, should I try switching the colours from my regular units? Or just paint their armour black and be done with it?
Here is a pic of a regular guardsmen for reference.

Feel free to post questions or advise.

I don't really know enough about the Guard to offer colour suggestions, but maybe seeing as the units come from different sources a bit of colour variation could be a good idea.

It sees like quite an interesting concept, though. I like fluffy armies, and your conversions look great thus far. Perhaps you're right in that the masks do look a touch large but not overly so - from across the table-top it would probably be better that they're slightly oversized, if that makes sense - will make it easier to see what's what.

Good luck with the project! I'll hang around and make the odd ego-boosting comment if it will help you along

    Thanks Deadstar

The Chem Dogs are coming together slowing. The pic here shows them in varous levels of modeling, with modified lasguns, missing chins (for the masks) and shaved down helmets.

I've gone to great lengths to shave off both the shoulder pads and chest plate to give them at least some uniform appearance, though the chest armour and masks won't be the only iconic feature of this unit.
Best be careful not to make them seem too unorthodox though, inquisitors LOVE unorthodox units
I've also been thinking of some colour schemes for the unit as well, here are two of the best I think:

    - Keep the regular colour shceme but instead paint their armour black (which would remove the red/terracotta that identifies the rest of my guardsmen)
    - Black armour with olive green/ desert yellow striped camo

Hopefully I'II have a painted example of both by the next update, comments are welcome!

I've also finished building my only advisor, the officer of the fleet.

As gorgeous as the original model is, he lacked a great coat as badass as the one for the new commisar models
Note that I've filed off his whip as, well, guardsmen don't take lightly to being ordered around by a space jock...

Finally, here is a quick snap of the army as it stands at the moment.

(Sorry for all the fuzz, I'II try get some better photos later)
With any luck, it'll be a tad larger by the end of this month!

That is a great model to use for your Officer of the Fleet. Looking forward to those test models, I'm trying to picture what you've said in my head but I need a bit of visual guidance, I think!

I love the theme. Makes me want too finish off my steel legion. Do you have the Armageddon codex? If you do there should be some info in there about chem dog uniforms.

Aye I do have that lovely codex, but apart from some fiction and an armour colour scheme there isn't much about them at all. Chapter Approved 2003 went all the way to give them their own special list and dedicated fiction, but nothing on colour scheme.

Though reading through that fiction makes me think giving all the Chem Dogs simular helmets is to uniform even for them...

Been a while since the last update, uni exams and last minute essays not mixing well with modeling and such.
But now the holidays have arrived, and it's cold outside, so I'II be spending my time keeping warm this winter!

Painting wise, I've started my third guardsmen squad, doing batches of two at a time to keep the painting standards up.
I've also done a test run for my Savlar scheme and I'm really happy with the base results. Here's a pic of the model thus far.

He still needs some work though as he's too dark overall, so I'II need to test some camoflauge patterns on the fatigues before I start painting his buddies.
I've a pot of vermin brown in my drawer, perhaps I can use that...

I'm also considering painting some battle damage and graffiti on the armour to make it seem less orthodox (they are thugs after all).
Any suggestions as to what a thug would graffiti onto his armour in the 41st millennium?

Nice looking model what was your base colour? As far as graffiti have a look through various guard artwork or flick through a haunts ghosts for a feel of some of the phrases used and possibly find some in there. If that doesn't work go for some Vietnam style slogans suitably updated for the 41st millenium.

    Hope that helps

    It's a rather simple scheme I've been using for a while now as it gives a nice olive finish that suits the desert yellow fatigues;

Dark Angels Green > Catachan Green > Chaos Black wash > highligh Catachan Green

Looking good! I like that scheme, seems to have come out well.

Hmm, not being too familiar with thugs or time travel... Maybe skulls, or some meaningful quote or a weapon of some kind? Or just rude words, though not sure what the commissar would have to say about that...
