Welcome to Librarium Online!
Slamming together my Sicarius and Command Squad and Exterminate vs Exterminatus threads into a general WIP thread to try and shame/cajole me into being less of a lazy bugger and to get on with painting the models I haveÖ or at least paint more a month than Iím buying.
Before the basecoat.
Champion complete, now facing off against the Daleks
For the Champion I did look at amending the pose so the mace was upright but decided I didnít like it as much as this lowered pose.
The Quickshade did a nice enough job on him and the Captain but is a little too thick. Iím going to try thinning it with some white spirits before trying the next lot of models.
With the remains of a spare set of Dark Angel Veteranís Iíve set about building a trinity of HQ choices just to give me more variety on the board.
Librarian, with a book as he's forgotten the incantation. Captain, getting ready to smack someone with his shield. Chaplain with a mace (posed upwards this time) that is going to lose it's head and be replaced with an aquila. Also bonus @karantalsis ; shot in the background.
Iím really liking the aesthetic of the monastic robes on marines though my DIY chapter isnít intended to be a DA successor itís starting to get the look of one, Iíll have to mix in some more Primarch symbology amongst the rank and file to give them more a feel of venerating all the Primarchs.
Then once these guys are done maybe I can get back to the 30 odd poor neglected Tactical Marines that are sat undercoated and waiting for me to get some work done on them.
Poor devils waiting for some paintbrush love.
Over on the B&C the Space Wolf players are having a pledge to get folks to finish a unit. Having not played a Space Wolf force since second and third edition I figured I would use this as an excuse to build a couple of the characters inspired by The Battle of the Fang.
I've gone with a character called Redpelt. BATTLE OF THE FANG SPOILERS who starts the book as a Blood Claw and has his pack whittled down till at the end he is the lone survivor and is expected to become a Lone Wolf rather than join another pack. At the end of the Book he has taken up his Wolf Guard squad leaders sword Dausvjer, and considering the heartache he felt at the loss of his brother Helfist I've decided to include Helfists' Power Fist on the model as well.. SPOILERS END
My Wolf Pack boxset arrived in the post on Wednesday and comparing the box contents with what I remember of the 3rd Edition plastics I'm pleasantly suprised at how much you get in the set.
This is the current drybuild on the guy, the base is a 40mm base, that I've built steps on with cardboard. Then I've covered it in some textured paint to make a slope for Redpelt to come charging down with his sword outstretched to skewer his foe and fist cocked for a deadly haymaker blow.
The left leg needs adjusting to make it look more like he is charging down, but thats a job for the weekend when I'm a bit more bright eyed than after work. The wolf pelt will likely go, it looks like it is swinging the wrong way to me, so I think I will swap it out for one of the normal torso backs for this.
For the Rout!
As I'm not comfortable with freehanding runes with a brush I've ordered a 0.05 micron pen, the plan being to add these two sets of runes to the weapons.
Helfist for the power fist over the knuckles and Dausvjer down the blade.
We will see how well that plan works out.
He is looking quite interesting, however until the base it painted he just looks rather off balanced. I agree about his cloak though, it doesn't really seem to work that well for the purposes you need it to.
As to the marines above, they look pretty good. I do have one thing to point out, the robes. They are too close to the armour colour, they blend together much too well. I would reconsider doing them a different colour - black or cream work quite well with red.
Not a particularly productive weekend, got some base colours on the Lone Wolf, and painted up the base with a little static grass on it to see how it looks. I'm going to take a knife to it and go around the edge to trim the spill over off, then pull off the static grass and repaint it.
Also built and started a Wolf Lord to go with the Lone Wolf
Going to go round with a cocktail stick to get some Tin Bitz paint on the rivets to get a nice dark colour to stand out against the grey.
