    [ToXG] vanilla space marines

Here's the start of my TOXG project, 2000 points over twelve months, a force of space marines to add to my existing apocalypse size army. As such, they dont as yet comply with a standard FOC but you dont have to in apocalypse anyway. It works out at about 167 points a month, which I aim to exceed, and although I have most of the stuff I'll need, I have not worked out the points exactly yet. Thought it best to get started with the painting first. Septembers target is to paint three dreads, two of which are autocannon rifleman types and one Ironclad, which is about 400 points. Here's a (poor) photo of what I have to work with so far.

The basecoated figures include a command squad, two captains, five LC termies, five THSS termies, Five assault marines, a jump pack chaplain, two five man bike squads melta weaponed up, and a techmarine. I have edited this post to include the completed monthly projects and proposed future targets.

    1. Sept - Three Dreadnoughts 400 (completed)
    2. oct - Ten assault terminators 400 (completed)
    3. Nov - Bike squad and captain 260 (completed)
    4. Dec - Assault squad and Chaplain 240 (completed)
    5. Jan - Two Land raiders 500 ( completed )
    6. Feb - Two predators 250 ( completed )
    7. Mar - Captain and Venerable Dreadnought 320 ( completed )
    8. Apr - Two Land Raider Crusaders 500 ( completed )
    9. May - Bike squad and Techmarine 250 { completed }
    10. Jun - Ten man Devastator and Sterguard squads 590 ( completed )
    11. Jul - Two Stormtalon gunships 300 ( completed )
    12. Aug - Ten man Devastator squad with four missile launchers 270 ( completed )

    YES !

Looking forward to seeing this, are you doing a codex chapter or making up your own colour scheme?

That was quick. Its a DIY chapter, essentially they are what was my Ultramarines with black shoulder pauldrons. When I started, Ultras had red weapons and yellow edging and chest eagles, then GW changed all that so I repainted them, then went off the Ultramarines a bit when Calgar took down an Eldar Avatar. I am still not certain what to call them, or what chapter markings to adopt, but there are ideas in the pipeline. Les hope I can keep to the schedule.

On a more related note, some stock standard space marines will be a nice change from all the chapter specific ones I've been seeing everywhere (and flooding out of GW). The scheme sounds like a nice mix from the used for Xeno Hunter Kill Teams, I'II be looking forward to that for sure! Any fiction in the works for them as well?

Bit of fluff forming in the dark recesses of my mind. Keep it simple is my modus operandi. The chapter is a very recent founding, with little experience and no major achievements. After requests from the Adeptus mechanicus, the high lords of terra raised the chapter to "assist" with garrison duties in an isolated star system notable only for its particularly rich asteroid belt. Normally protected by the Imperial navy, Mars wanted a marine presence due to the navies seeming inability to recapture pirated merchant vessels rather than destroy them, thereby loosing their cargoes. To this end, Mars equipped the chapter with a higher than normal number of escort ships ( reflected in my BFG fleet) while staying within the proscribed limits of three battle barges and ten strike cruisers (these numbers taken from the BFG rulebook). Ruffled navy feathers were smoothed over with a couple of brand new battleships. The chapter has had some success in cutting down piracy losses.

The chapter was granted the only inhabitable planet in the system as their homeworld and are in the process of developing it to provide a recruiting base. The planets single small moon is being adapted to provide fleet maintenance facilities and planetary protection.

Not much, considering I've had my marines for about fifteen years but its a start. A name and chapter symbol are under consideration, but now I'm getting back to painting or I'm going to fall at the first hurdle.

I quite like your fluff idea... it is certainly refreshingly different from the 'my chaptermaster killed an avatar of khaine' rubbish certain smurfs have

Are there any threads of your BFG fleet? It'd be interesting to see

Embarrasingly, not a single ship is even undercoated. Would be a good idea to get them under one of Kuffys painting pledge threads. Back on topic, the dreads are coming along nicely. Should not be a problem getting them finished on time.
