I finally dug out some of my models, took some pictures, found my army book and hence I think I'm at the actual start of my project to get a sensible Eldar army knocked together...
Wthout further ado, here are the photos of where I'm starting from...
Jain Zar, one of my favorite models ever, I think I painted her in secondary school which was a fair few years ago now...
A farseer painted by the wonderful minus t - Lovely as ever with his work, even if it did need a bigger base to stop the thing falling over!
A farseer painted by me, not as good as -t's and some would say (including me) that it is not really even finished yet, but its more than good enough for now!!
Follows is (boring) photos of my minature trays, so you can see what I have in a 'together' enough condition to game with - I have more stuff just packed away somewhere (recently moved house...) and none of it is really built as yet...
Next on the list is clearing my desk to turn it into a painting station, digging out the brushes, paint, glue etc, and writing an army list - hope you like the photos so far!!
Painting some Eldar myself, not for an army as such just for some fun.
Consider me subscribed
I know I'm a bit behind and they've been out for ages, but has anyone got any experience with using a wraithseer??
and what about Shadow Spectres??
Otherwise my army list is coming along slowly, I might even put up my initial ideas in a few days...
Due to Warp Storms progress on this project has been delayed...
Buuuuut! I'm back so it can now continue :-) I have modified my paint station so that it fits on the desk a bit easier in a vain hope that I'll be able to paint a bit more often.
I also joined a GCN club so I'll have a bit more motivation now :-)
So, more time passes... blah, blah, blah, excuse, excuse, excuse... baby... etc...
I bought the new Codex, now I want to build an army to meet the formation regulations...
I will post photos, but I'm thinking a minimum Craftworld Warhost to start, I also went a bit crazy and purchased a Wraithknight so I can almost field a Wraith host as well :-)
Fun times ahead, I still need to get into the habit of painting regularly, but I did start re-basing some of my old miniatures, and I have painted some more Warlocks, so that must be a good start right?!
Also, I will be trying to do some fluff, but it will probably be terrible so don't hold your expectations too high...!
Right, so, first things first, fluff...
Ulthwé, full name: Ulthanash Shelwe, therefore Ulthwe Anor is "The teardrop of Ulthwe", I found this from an online language guide a bazillion years ago and I can't find it again... anyway, I quite like it and since it is an alien language who cares if it is "right" or "wrong"... Anyway;
After the fall and the ensuing instigation of the Eldar Path, many Craftworld Eldar became unhappy with the restrictive nature of the path and started to leave to follow the path of the outcast. (This is all paraphrased from the Codex, but you get the idea...)
As a young Farseer, Veraenthis wanted to try and find a way to bring back these outcasts, or at least save their spirit stones from falling into the wrong hands... Having walked the Path of the Farseer for many years he had reached a position of suitable respect to allow him to petition the Seer Council to dispatch a small party to find Eldar who are walking the Path of the Outcast and try to convince them to re-join the craftworld.
Veraenthis' request was granted, he was given a small force with secondary missions to visit as many maiden worlds as possible and collect all the spirit stones he could find. As such the Farseer took the rune for Ulthwe and modified it to make the tear more prominent, as he felt his war party was both akin to the teardrop that had fallen from the craftworld and their mission was to collect previously fallen tears...
Veraenthis was initially given only a small bodyguard of fellow Warlocks who felt the same as him. Since he began his mission however, he has gained a more significant following that has built to a similar size as a Craftworld Warhost. He is also occasionally joined by supplementary forces from the main craftworld if he requires assistance to overcome a foe more powerful than his basic force, or if he is directed toward a conflict to assist with the master plan of the Ulthwe Seer Council.
Due to their main mission, armies from Ulthwe Anor often include a number of units of Rangers and Pathfinders when they take the field of battle, due to the quanitity of spirit stones they have retrieved they can also call on a number of Wraith constructs to support their main formations.
Anyway, that's enough initial background and fluff for now, sorry it is not very good, if you have any suggestions for improvements go ahead and ask questions :-)... time for an army list next I think...
Army List Time
I'm going to start with a Guardian Battlehost, so, Farseer, 3 x Guardian Defenders, Vyper, War Walkers, and a Support Weapon Battery and see how I'm going for points... Then I'll add a unit of Rangers, an Aspect Host and a Wraith Host for larger battles... That should see me with good scope for covering a wide range of enemies and points totals...!
Without further ado;
Primary Detachment - Craftworld Warhost:
Farseer: 100 pts + Singing Spear = 105 pts
3 x 10 Guardian Defenders; 90 pts + Warlock + Singing Spear = 130 x 3 = 390 pts
Formation Bonus - Free Support Platforms!!
1 x Vyper; 40pts + Starcannon = 45 pts
1 x War Walker; 60pts + 2 x Starcannon = 70pts
1 x Vauls Wrath Support Battery; 30 pts
5 x Rangers; 60 pts
Total; 700 points. That should do it as a starter, additional options as follows :-)
1 x Spiritseer; 70 pts
2 x 5 Wraithguard; 160 pts x 2 = 320 pts
1 x 5 Wraithblades; 150 pts
1 x Wraithlord; 120 pts + Scatter Laser + Bright Lance = 155 pts
1 x Wraithknight; 295 pts + Scatter Laser + Shuriken Catapult = 325 pts
Total; 1020 pts. There are several different options for this Host, but I've never played with a Wraithknight or Wraithblades so there remains to be some experimentation...
2 x Farseer; 200 pts
4 x Warlock; 140 pts
+ 6 x Singing Spears; 30 pts
Total; 370 pts. There are options here, depending on how many Warlocks I think I need...!
1 x 5 Dire Avengers; 65 pts + Exarch + 5 x DA's = 140 pts
1 x Swooping Hawks; 80 pts + Exarch + Sunrifle + 1 x SH = 121 pts
1 x Dark Reapers; 75 pts + Exarch + 2 x DR = 140 pts
+1 Ballistic Skill
Total; 401 pts. I think this would be a hard hitting shooting formation and in combination with the Guardian Battlehost whole army should be pretty shooty...!!
I also have almost all these models, I just need to get painting!!
Good to see some 2nd ed minis in there. I like that you've got a story for your army too.
I kinda realised this is a project thread, and there is a distinct lack of photos... so here is a badly lit shot of my Guardian Battlehost as it currently stands...
You can see that I still have to build the war walker and the Vaul's Wrath weapon platform, as well as repaint a support weapon & crew and a couple of guardians... I also want to make it more obvious which Guardian squad is which, you can see that one squad has yellow helmets, but the other two are currently indistinguishable... I also need to finish off my Warlocks, and they're supposed to have singing spears but I might just leave them with witchblades for the time being...!
And now, a few more photos of various parts of the Craftworld Warhost...
First up, my Aspect Shrine - 10 Dire Avengers, 5 Dark Reapers and (almost) 6 Swooping Hawks...
You can see there is a lot of work to do on this parts of the warhost... One of the swooping Hawks is in the post from eBay as well so not even all the models are pictured...!
Secondly, here is the Wraith Host...;
Ok, there is even more work to do here, and I'm missing a Spiritseer and a squad of Wraithblades, but I think I could proxy them without too much difficulty...
So there you have it, apart from the Seer Council which is the Farseer painted by minus t and a collection of unpainted warlocks, my starting point for now... At least I have a direction to head in though, and I know which models need painting first and roughly how I'd like to paint them!! It almost feels like the ball has started rolling in the right direction for once
I'm actually looking forward to painting and making progress updates!!
