    [ToXG] The Insurgents (Imperial Guard)

Been interested in starting a themed guard army for a while now, and a shiny medal is all the encouragement I need obviously, well plus finding some steals on ebay.

I will be making an army themed on the recent Arab Spring conflicts in Egypt, Lybia, Tunisia and Yemen. Hopefully I won't be crossing the line into crass racism, please let me know if I do, but a lot of my ideas might be more stereotypical than reality.

1000 point list is as follows:

    CCS (autocannon, regimental standard)
    PCS (4 flamers) {in vendetta}
3 Infantry squads (3 missile launchers, 3 sniper, commissar, 4 power weapons)
    Vets squad (3 melta, chimera)
    Vets squad (3 melta, chimera)
    Vendetta
    Leman Russ

Over 6 months this gives me 165 a month..

For starters here is the "mmmmm boxes" shot

Yes that is a pickup truck, it will be used as a chimera.. just hoping to find another suitable pickup in 1:43 scale for my other on ebay. It is a little narrower and lower than a chimera, but the same length, I will mount it on a base to give correct dimensions.

The vendetta will be turned into a looted helicopter with all luck

It is going to be a ragtag army, lots of different colours and models, but hopefully will all work together.

First unit to get started on is going to be one of the vets units (155 is a little short I know). Completion by 15th May. When I have all the pieces through the post I will post up a "before painting" shot.

looks interesting, good luck with your project.

I think your paint scheme is going be main thing that ties all models together but then again it's the same in all armies tho.

Vets squad are almost ready to go. There's some turbaned heads coming through the post, hence the missing couple of heads, and no sergeant has arrived just yet, but will be the model pictured below:

    catserg1.JPG

Have made a base for the pickup (chimera), will have a big machine gun (maybe just use heavy stubber or autocannon) to represent the multilaser and a guy with a heavy flamer hidden behind the open passenger door for the heavy flamer on the front.

    And this is why:

    Toyota wars3.jpg

So here is my pics of models that are assembled so far, could really do with some help though. Has anyone seen any painted models with those red and white checked/patterned head scarves that are oh so popular in the hilux riding ak brigade?? A tutorial would be immense too.

Edit: Wow have just seen the bottom picture after posting, what a load of ****, lol... its a load of Tallarns and Catachans with head scarves, I'll take some proper ones once the Sergeant arrives

Nice to see the old tallarn models coming out, one of the best in the guard range personally. Wish they'd go make a plastic kit for them though
I'm guessing you're planning on greenstuffing scarf's for the catachan's as well?

Thanks for the kind words, and yeah I love the tallarn models too.

In terms of the catachans I have ordered some of these turbaned heads

    Sikh Destroy - Figure Heads

but I will leave quite a few just regular, if you have a look at the photos from the recent uprising in Libya, quite a few of the rebels are just regular guys turning up in their jeans t shirt and a camo jacket, for example:

    libya-rebels15.jpg

I will try and tie everyone together with desert camo splashed around, but a lot will be in different gear to each other showing the diverse range of people fighting.

I will also be using some bearded bare headed empire heads, and should be doing a little greenstuff, but mainly to be making face masks or hoodies which were prevelant during the conflict.

I'm impressed by the research you are putting in to make this army. Should make it look really good when done.

Haha thanks guys, research is stretching it a bit though, just googling libyan freedom fighters or rebels in hilux ain't what I call research.

Vets squad is now assembled and primed, and most of my upper body is coated in army painter desert yellow, I think there's a fault with the can, its just pouring out of it when I spray it, so sending it back for a replacement. This happened to anyone else before? Also any tips on getting primer off my skin?? I am covered.

Pics of primed models will arrive below shortly

Edit: Camera is playing up, just will not focus on the models, will try again tomorrow in better light and once I've put a little paint on them

Always end up with primer on my skin. I use soap and a nail brush skin may end up a little red but it works just stick some moisturiser on afterwards. Either that or proper swarfega. Looking forward to that vet squad!
