I'm simply amazed at the amount of detail you can put into the faces of these people (notably, the Captain Taal and the leader of the Assault squad). And to think, I have trouble just painting the eye(s) of Sisters of Battle models... Keep us posted, and good luck!

Woah, gorgeous painting! And the bases are some of the most realistic I've seen.. the thing with cork bases is that people tend to overdo them and have a massive dodgy-looking hunk of cork on the base that raises the model far too high. I like how you've got them looking like proper stony ground without having each marine being king of his own personal mountain. |

Update time! Woo, yay, etc etc. So, this week, I've been working on the rest of the Tactical Squad. Here is the whole squad (well, the 5 marines with bolters): ![]() ...and here is a close up of each marine: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The idea with this squad was to make each marine look like he is either moving, or about to move, towards the enemy. This squad acts as a big lump of my 'front line', so they generally do end up charging something at some point, and I wanted to show this in the models. Not only that, but I want the (as yet un-started) 'shooty' squad to look very static, almost dug in, firing more accurately, while these guys are either running (second from top, not a great angle), advancing (bottom and middle marines), or firing from the hip (the other two). Each marine has had some convertion work, either a smiple reposition of the legs, a variant backpack or bolter clip, or some more major work (the changed air filters on the bottom marine, or the added leg armour on the 4th down). This is going to be on hold for a week or so while I finish off something I've had hanging over me for a while, but if I have (or need) any ideas, I'll be sure to post up. Anyway, c&c welcome as always ![]() -t.

Very simple, but also very well done. I'm really liking your work thus far. Get to work! They need painting  .

A full squad? You are crazy mate, how fast are you working... This armybuilding duell really improve the speed you are working with, without losing quality. I love those guys, the plasticard legs are my favourite, I bet there even is a fancy "mark XX" name to them. My only gripe in this unit is the rebreather helmet. It is an awsome concept (I for one is a sucker for the whole gasmask thing) but the GS looks a little unfinished, just where the tubings comes from the sides. I know it's just a minor thing but really it's the only thing I think you can improve. Lovely models. |

Cheers guy, it's all the helpful comments that are keeping me going (that, and the desperate desire not to have to buy Kuffy a meal...) ![]() I hadn't realised quite how inspiring these blogs are... I agree with you on the rebreather helmet, I think I'm going to put more work into it, it was the last thing I did before last night, and definately the weakest part of the squad (it was inspired by **this** image, btw). I think the 'main' tube is going to be extended down to where the skull is on his chest at the moment, and I'm going to add a bunch more wires/tubes to the face. I've also noticed that I have completely forgotten to add my various extras (bags/pouches, knives, purity seals etc), so hopefully I'll have some completely finished pics up tonight. -t. edit: Oh, and I don't think that the extra leg armour has a special mark designator, I just stole the idea from the double spread illustration of Raven Guard in the front of the current rule book... Although don't tell anyone, that's where I get most of my ideas from...
