Yeah... neck cramp and back spasm all the way to the bank. Seriously though, this sounded like a wonderful idea until I did inventory of my remaining figures. I'll still go for the marathon, I just have serious doubts in my own ability to finish it all this weekend. |

It looks great and makes want to go buy a model. I think you really did it justice. I will offer a few suggestions. You know how it is with free advice...it's worth what you pay for it. The green spite on the rider's shoulder contrasts well against the noble's light blues, but it seems out of place in a winter scheme, unless you're fluffing it as a harbinger of spring or something. I would've painted it a luminescent purple. Some pale, pinkish highlights would make it seem to glow on his shoulder. Also, where the inner cape flairs out on the lower left of the picture, I'm not sure what I think about it. When I first glimpsed it, it made me think of lizardmen, very scaly. Still, it looks cool and breaks up the flat expense of the outer cape. I think painting some striations on the haft of his spear would look cool. If you haven't done it yet, practice on a standard or spear bit from either the glade guard or glade rider sprue. Check out mousekiller's goblin pics to see what I mean, though he uses a much darker scheme than you...you'd have to sort of reverse highlight since you have a light wood background, instead of the goblin's darker one. The base is very cool, and I hope you post pics from a few different angles, and maybe some closeups. My suggestions aside, I love the paint job and color scheme...very different from the one I've grown accustomed to.

I have to agree with David here, this is a nice looking miniature. I like the colour scheme, is different to the normal green or browns we see constantly and just shows they can work with a different one. However, this has nothing to do with the painting, but I don't like the stag. Now I have a good look, my first impressions were correct. It's a bull. It looks very little like a stag to my eyes and more like a bull. O_o But, you make it look at least halfway decent. Good job on that! KU

I'll grant you that the stag looks rather bull-ish. Unfortunate business that, but I still love the model as a whole. Still can't quite figure out why this guy needs to have a sword, a spear, and a dagger on his person AND another sword, another spear, another dagger, and a bow in a bundle on the "stag," but oh well. Had I paid attention ahead of time I would have puttied the stag's shoulder and just skipped the bundle. Thanks for the feedback, David - I'll probably end up incorporating most of it before I get better photos next week. Wild riders should hopefully be done soon, at which point I'll get a shot of the entire unit. |

The spite would look cool orange, too, though maybe not complement the blue as well? Why all the weapons? He's a hunter! He needs knives for skinning, spears for throwing, and swords just in case some beastmen have snuck into the forest.

Yeah, yeah... I just wish he would have reminded me about his arsenal before I thought I was done with him. Not that my miniatures talk to me... |

Wow this all reminds me of the Wood Elves I painted for a guy that I painted in autumn colors... shame I don't have pics because my digicamera is broken but man was that something... I promised the guy I would paint everything with at least 3 highlights on basic colors, and boy did I regret that when I found out how big his army was. At least I was paid about $250. 2 Wood Elf lord guys on Dragons 1 Lord w/ great weapon 5 mages 1 mage on horseback 120 (ow) wood elf archers 32 glade guard guys 24 Dryands (might have been 32, it was 2 plasic boxes worth) 8 Glade Riders 20 or so Wardancers 3 Treemen 5 guys on eagles When you paint a large ammount of models like this, you need to do everything mechanically (except for the lords or unique models that you want to look extra special ), and by that I mean paint them in groups of 20-30 assembly-line style one color/highlight at a time. In a day (8 hours worth) you can have roughly 20 guys done to high standards. One thing to bear in mind is to TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOUR BRUSHES!!!! If you want your stuff to look nice, rinse the paint off frequently and don't put the paint on sloppily. Though, from the looks of your minis, you have more than enough experience with this stuff. I really like the clean look of things. Cheers, Ezekiel1990 |

Pretty impressive Stag Lord! Your winter scheme is excellent! I really like your choice to stick with a cream-coloured stag, it makes for a very different character - quite unique. Your scheme is actually generating some indecision on my behalf - maybe I need to go for something different too? Suddenly the average Spring scheme doesn't seem so attractive... Gah! Anyways, great work so far misanthrope - I'm looking forward to posting my own project thread soon (I got my Lord and some Wild Riders just yesterday). Sadly I doubt I can near your quality though. {confused} Great minis, misanthrope! Cheers.
