Anyone interested in or tried AT-43? With my "to paint" list slowly getting longer rather than shorter, I'd be interested in giving a pre-painted mini game a shot and the figures for AT-43 are closer to 40K than the BF-Evolution stuff I'm also tempted by, so less culture shock when I gamed with them.

Apologies for necromancy but it's not a terribly large forum and I didn't see the point in starting a new topic. I played a game of AT-43 today and I must say that I am impressed with the tactical depth that the rules offer. It is very much a game of knowing your priorities and of taking chances; you don't have to guess range to the same extent that you do in 40K and the Therians that I used have absolutely devastating firepower. Not many releases for them at the moment, but they're easy to use and the standard Storm Golems and Wraith Golgoths that you get with the Operation Damocles set are solid choices. I'm eager to see the rulebook for fluff and the named characters who are theoretically your officers as well. Best of all, the models are all pre-assembled and painted, although I don't know how they will manage to keep this up as the game grows. I know if I had to sit around painting Wraith Golgoths and Storm Golems all day, I'd go insane.

i love just about everything in AT-43. in my opinion it wollops 40k on every front, its exactly what i'd have done had i a studio full of sculptors and a lot of money. unfortunately, i'd have to ship to get it to australia, so i havent yet.

ah well, but i have only words of encouragement for anyone thinking of taking it up.

*Takes spade and starts digging* - Corpse Ruffling!

Was looking at AT-43 earlier today, am quite interesting in giving it a try, so i've mailed my local hobby store to see wether they know where i can get hold of any models etc

I think it looks rather cool, so i am hoping things will be successful in getting some stuff if all else fails, there's a store up on North Island i'll contact

Will probably grab the starter set and go from there

Doesn't seem like much activity in here, so I'll try and start some. With the recent releases and buying out I think AT-43 is finally a competitive and fun game.

For those who don't know what it is, AT-43 is a game based on four main factions stuck in never ending war. With the Democles campaign starting the battles are heating up, and most fight for their very survival. Pretty deep huh? We have seen it before though.

What makes it unique though is the four different factions, and the factions even within those. For example: I could be playing Karmans and chose Libra, while another person would take Nova. While we both have the same army book, are choices of units and unique powers makes them each their own.

A short lowdown on the different factions:

U.N.A- The typical "Good guy" army of the universe. UNA forces rely on having a bit of everything to deal with most situations, striking hard and fast with superior weaponry.

Red Blok- The other human force. They are a bunch of blue collared miners who instigated a rebellion that would mean the very extinction of the UNA. Red Blok believe in superior numbers and superior armour, relying on swarming the opponent while their nigh-unstoppable walkers wreak havoc from afar.

Therians- The typical "Bad guy" army of the universe. Therians are a race of humans who long ago accepted the embrace of technology. They are a robotic force who's sheer number of devestating fire can level entire armies. Their only disadvantage is lack of armour, the standard troop falls easily.

Karmans- A cloned race of gorilla's created long ago by the Therians, who they believe they owe a debt. The Karmans are the absolute elite army, using hit and fade tactics and superior speed to outmanuever and destroy their opponent.

Like stated before within each of these forces like three sub-factions. If you dislike troops in a Red Blok force, you have the option to take an all mechanized army. If the Therian horde seems interesting to you, you have the option again.

So far I am really digging this game, even after a massacre in my first game. I originally had the idea of using the Red Blok, but after seeing apes in power armour I had to make the switch. So far we have a Therian, Red Blok, and Karman player and it's quickly gaining some attention.

The pre-painted model thing seems to throw some people off. But I have experimented and find painting them rather easy with Citadel products. In particular the new foundation paints make it easy to cover the areas you want and form your own color. I am in the process of painting cream and purple Karmans!

Hopefully I can generate a small number of people on here, since I want to share BatReps and ideas with the forum I'm familiar with.

Well, like I've said before, I play Therians and although there's not much interest around where I live, I do keep those Storm Golems and Wraith Golgoths on hand, just in case... The models are pretty lovely as well.

I played a demo and while some things were impressive; on a whole, the game seemed like a dumbed-down tabletop game.

I like the models, but I hate their paint-jobs. I'm not a great painter, but I can hold my own and my tabletop armies generally look better than those of my opponents. The sloppily-painted ten minute jobs that these models get just screams "repaint me!" I don't consider them pre-painted if they subsequently need to be repainted.

(I think Rackham is moving away from white metal figures and going to all pre-painted plastic. I have heard this. It's a shame, because Rackham always made lovely figures.)

The rules are nice and streamlined, and the feel of the game can be picked up pretty quickly, but I felt a lack of depth and subtlety.

Kudos to Rackham for trying something new and being reasonably successful with it so far, but this just isn't for me, though Space Apes do hold a certain appeal.

It does have some simplicity factor, but the fact that you have to make orders first and not knowing what is coming is pretty neat, adding on the special faction powers furthers this, but the lack of models currently means not much expansion.

The newer armies (Karmans and Red Blok) Have a far better paint job than former one's. They are learning as they go it seems, so I expect it to improve.

Cool to see you have some Therians Nite, they massacred me so they intimidate me on the battlefield. I'm sure my soopa apes can take 'em though. With Kapt. Donkey Kong anything is possible.

One of my work friends and I have been playing AT on the regular since around Christmas and there's three or four guys in my club who have picked it up.

I have to say, it's a very enjoyable game. My only real complaint is the lack of armies/ factions. I've collected about 3,000 points of Red Blok and just don't know what to do now- lols. Buy more stuff or start a new army?

I'd highly recommend the game to anyone who's getting a little burned out on 40k. It's different enough that it's a great distraction.

As a quick aside, for folks who play a demo and find the rules shallow- if your demo was a game of Damocles, that's why- there's a lot more going on in a REAL game of AT-43 than a Damocles game. Damocles is very close to being a board game- a full blown game of AT-43 is NOT Damocles. There's a whole lot more going on.

So long story long, if you've only played Damocles, you've really never played AT-43.

What's the game play like for AT-43. I've played a few games of Warmachine, and I'm very familiar with warhammer 40k, but currently at the moment trying to find something else, something that will be fun regardless, and something that requires a bit more in the way of tactics.
