I for one can't decide. I LOVE 3rd edition, but ad&d had a certain feel to it that I really liked too. What does every one else think?
Knowing the rules for both, but playing neither, I'd have to say I like 3rd edition better. I actually bought some of the 3rd edition books, as a matter of fact, and I love the rules.
I played a LOT of ADND, and DND b4 it, and I loved it, and at first I hated D20, but once I got used to it, it speeds up the game, making combat more abt the action and less about the numbers, opens up the rules for customizing youre characters, overall, very well done
my 200th post, woo hoo !
thats very true, the d20 system won't restrict you as much as ad&d, and a lot of the things make sense. Some people will claim that Ad&d promoted role playing though, and it does have its own charm. Honestly, I started playing 3rd edition, but when I get all of these games like Baldurs gate, and Torment, I need to know ad&d. Thats how I learned, and I actually use my Baldurs gate manual when I play ad&d with my friends. Although when you look at the numbers, D20 really promotes role playing more. Any class is capable of just about anything, blurring the destinctions between the different jobs.
3 E!!! yea man!!! i LOVE the rules... But AD&D has some good sides that aint in 3E, as Wild Magic... SOOOOO FUNNY!!! -But that means more fun work for you
My first post yea!!!

i've never played ADnD, so can someone please tell me the general idea.
I like 3rd edition, but 3.5 is alot better to me (tons of new feats and other goodies)
"And whoever wants to be a creator in good and evil, must first be an annihilator and break values. Thus the highest evil belongs to the greatest goodness: but this is--being creative."

AdnD was the DND 3e rules, with a lot more math, a considerably more complaicated way of doing magic and combat...and far more difficult to actually customize a character (this was b4 prestiege classas mind you, which I think are the best thing DND has come up with, if a few happen to be a little..overpowering)
2nd Edition always confused the hell out of me. I was young then, and just couldn't grasp the THAC0 system.
I really like 3rd Edition. Everything is simple.
I played AD&D for the longest time, and I am just starting to read up on 3.5.
Personally I like AD&D better, I am not a fan of all the "freedom" you get with your characters in 3ed. but then again I remember a time when Dwarfs were just "dwarfs". (Red book D&D)
I am sure with time I’ll change.
i prefer D20, makes gaming so much easier at the early hours on a sunday morning. i've only ever played Ad&d through baldur's gate so im not totally familiar with it.
anyone here play Hackmaster cause at my group we've justed started a game, pretty cool system, i dont find Thac0 that big a problem figured it out in like 2mins.
