Some time ago I sold off my Magic Cards because of the Cycle rule (where you can only legally play the current set and the last 2 expansions isn't it?).
I was always, and still am (in a non-playing way) a fan of type 1, where any cards you like from you back catalogue of expensive and hard traded cards can be used.
I'm curious to know the general outlook of players these days with regards to the type of decks they play. It has always seemed rather wrong that so much is spent on cards for them to be of use for only a limited time period.
As a footnote, here is my old Red/Green Type 1 deck, it remained unbeaten (over best of 3 games) for nearly 18 months. Perhaps some of you might like to try it out against some of the modern decks if you have the cards (or proxy them) to see how it still performs. I think you'll be surprised at it's resiliance given that it is majority common cards, has no flyers, no enchantments and no artifacts.
4 Kird Ape
4 Llanowar Elves
1 Wheel Of Fortune
4 Grizzly Bear
4 Giant Spider
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Scavenger Folk
4 Giant Growth
the cycle rules is for standard (type 2) so you can still play type 1 in soem tournaments and with your budies.
If you want to keep it a common deck and still enhance it, add some rancors, seal of strength, sock and seal of fire or rogue elephant, and basking rootwalla.
i like playing type 1 better, the magic community here plays type 1 for that matter. only difference is you can only have 3 types of any card except land cards.
Take my love, take my land, take me to where I cannot stand; I don't care I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me.

I never put Enchantments in the deck as the Tranquility's would work against myself too. No flyers were needed due to the Giant Spider's ability to deal with them. Also, it meant I could cast my Hurricanes freely.Originally Posted by Wolf_Pack
The whole deck was themed to be a low casting cost, high mana producing, creature killing deck.
With 1 Mountain and 1 Forest in play you could have a 2/3 creature on turn 2 (Kird Ape) and the Llanowar elves enabled 4 mana by turn 3.
Scavenger Folk took care of any opponent Artifacts, all the blasts (Lightning Bolt etc) kept the opponent without creatures virtually from turn 1 and the nasty shock of Giant Growth was waiting for any bigger creatures that managed to get into play.
The Wheel Of Fortune allowed me to replenish my hand as it was an extremely quick deck and the Regrowth allowed me to get the Wheel back again
It was an amazing deck which was eventually retired due to lack of opponents willing to play against it.
Well when rancor is put into a graveyard from play it returns to your hand, so you could defefintly still play it, and seal of strength and fire are sacrafice.
I quit for the same reason, I would make a good deck and then before I know it, it'd become type 1 and id have to restart. So after countless $$$ spent I realized its sucking my money down the crapper. So I quit, picked up 40k tho and now I'm still spending alot of money, but its so much fun.
My favorite deck was a woodelf deck, By 2nd turn I had atleast 3+ woodelves out. Mixtures of llanowar elves and the tap 2 elves get 1green mana, ect and I had 4 coat of arms. And abunch of other combos. It's just been to long to remember, but it was unstoppable in countless tournies.

i dont know about this type 1 2 or wahtever stuff but i had an all white deck with four serra angels (impossibly hard to get at the time) and was unstoppable. i have been out of the loop obviously and tried to get back in.. when i did the spells of the other players due to the new additions quickly reduced me to zero. what happened? it turned into all spells and such. in my day creatures were crucial!
Last time I tried to play after a year or 2 of not playing, the guy had all these stupid ninja cards that when they arent blocked they can be "bounced" and they use aspecial effect and then they get to summon another nija for like no mana, its weird. But I won with a burn deck " I bounce my ninja, haha now i have 10...my turns, shock, fire fire, some flame spell spliced for like 9 dmg ad fireball

I don't care unless people are doing something increadably cheap, like Time Walk, or Black Lotus.
Other than that, I hardly own any type two cards at all.
Where's your Baritone Saxophone?
I played a guy with a power nine last night...ugh can you say turn 2 wins...the P9 are just that a P9. What is crazy is his 60 card deck is worth $5000+ (low price...). Man i wish i hadnt sold off my beta cards .
