Welcome to Librarium Online!
Heres an attempt at some quick rules for a medium/light cavalry unit for the WHFB vampire counts.
It seemed like a shame that the vampire counts don't have any medium cav, both black and blood knights are definitely heavy, while dire wolves are next to useless in combat and only ever see use as march blockers/redirectors. Couple this with the fact that the posing on the old skeleton models lends them perfectly to being balanced on the back of a dire wolf and you get:
Dire Wolf Riders
Core (but don't count towards your minimum number of core choices)
Skeleton rider M4 WS2 BS2 S3 T3 W1 I2 A1 LD5
Dire wolf M9 WS3 BS3 S3 T3 W1 I2 A1 LD3
Light armour and shield to give 4+ save, option to have spears at +1 point/model.
Upgrade to champion or standard bearer for 12pts, muso for 6pts.
Nothing groundbreaking I know, just wanted to know whether the point costs look right, 16 seems expensive but just about in line with the rest of the book.
Thanks for any input :-)
I will probably try to make some of these myself save Ill try with ghouls !
great idea !!!!
Why not treat these guys as Black Knights without barding?
I like the usage...
More effort to put the new plastic ghouls on the back though, and the old metal ghouls might be a bit big.
Lol - of course not...though shield, light armour, mounted is 4+, so not too far off :-)
I'm using the skelli horsemen from TK for the basis of my Black Knights, using the upper torsos from Grave guard, but might create a Black Knight "light" cavalry unit using this as inspiration - maybe undead gobbo wolf boys? (though I have to find lots of gobbo skulls from somewhere...)
This is great!
I may have to try and convince my friends to allow such things... I so want to create new units and such but I'm sure at least someone will object BUT if it's on LO then it must be official :p I should be okay.
I've rather missed the light horsemen from the TK army, I like fast cav and the zombie wolves were one of the main reasons I started this army, I was upset buy how lame they were...
My GW has some models of dire wolves with wings... Maybe you've just inspired me
[re: Blood Knights] Oooh, a pony!! :D ... Oh! It's an EVIL pony!!!"
