Welcome to Librarium Online!
Bearing in mind that the majority of the AM models out there are SM models, and the recent changes to the codex, do you think that the SM rules are now BETTER than the IG rules for fielding an AM army?
I think the SM codex is now clearly better for fielding an AM army and here's what units I would use and why...
The new SM codex allows you to field units of servitors for each Techmarine or MOF in the army.
You can use Dreds as robots.
Thunderfire cannons are obvious.
You could use a Chaplain as a killer construct or master combat Magos of some sort.
The Master of the forge is obvious.
You can field two small units of scouts as smarter combat servitor troops
Then take allied WH or DH stormtroopers as Skitarii
The ATSKNF rule is indicative of their logical, uncaring way
Techmarines can be used as Sgts in command of Devastators which will count as preatorians
Higher toughness/save can be attributed to master construction of servitors and bionic parts
I still maintain that the witchhunters codex is the best one for admech.
instead of "acts of faith" you have "blessings of the omnissiah"
arcoflaggelants are electro priests.
Inquisitorial stormtroopers and sisters are tech guard and skittari.
It works perfectly with a minimum of fuss.
"i am a leaf in the wind, see how i soar"
We all need pants.
that said, SM codex could make a nice Ad Mech army. Maybe one day GW will release a real codex for them
Arch Overfiend & Grand Despot
I currently play:
Doom Eagle Space Marines
Hive Fleet Omega Tyranids
Goff Ork Boyz(dead)
Tau of O'me
Inquisitorial Xeno Hunters
and my attempted foray into fantasy
'Dark Angel Green' Dark Elves in need of fluff
I'm just going to assume that every pants vote is a "yes" vote.
Marv, I guess I never thought about the faith points and such being used in that way. I still don't like the fact that if I use those rules, not one single unit in my army can fix anything. If a tank gets a weapon blown off and there's a "techmarine" standing there he gets to just look at it and say, "wow, that sucks zero one one one" and continue fighting.
I suppose you could combine WH with SM, as I like the idea of using that electropriest idea. I'll have to consider that further.
I suggest the Imperial Guard with an allied inquisitor as a Magos, Tech-Priests, allied WH or DH stormtroopers, grenadiers, normal Guard stormtroopers, sentinels and maybe a heavy weapons platoon to represent gun servitors.
Yea, that's pretty much the GW suggested route, but don't you think that leaves a little to be desired? I feel like the IG list is pretty weak. Everything is over-cost, and as soon as you start adding the bionics and things that make the list what it should be, all you do is end up compounding the inherent problems in the parent list.
Besides, all the vehicle choices seem a little bland. The Sentinel, with it's ONE weapon, makes a pretty crappy "robot" stand-in. The Leman Russ and Chimera are mass produced for the IG, so you would expect that they are low quality machines. If I were the Mechanicus, I would use the SM vehicles since they're supposed to be higher tech. Wouldn't you?
If you really want a true Ad Mech army, I suggest Apocalypse. You can ally the IG techpriests and some of their armout to the WH stuff, as well as take a bunch of super-heavies. However, in normal games, the best you are gonna get is the IG. Take it or leave it. As well, Ogryns are solid robots. I saw a list that used the LaTD list, but that's illegal now, so that's out of the picture.
MOF = Magos
Dred = Robot
Allied WH Flag. = Electropriests
Techmarine = Techmarine/Techpriest
+ Conversion Beamer
I know it sounds like I've made up my mind already, but I haven't. I'm just saying that this parent list seems like a good bit closer to what I always thought the AM should be, rather than the weak HQ, over-cost troops, and paltry vehicles of the IG. Maybe I should wait until the next IG codex comes out before I make a decision.
I voted for no pants...
Hmm, I guess you're right. I would stay away from having too many actual Marines in the army. Scouts would be good as heavy Skitarii as long as you gave them bolters.
