I'm going to do a Oriental style Imperial Knight not dissimilar to a "J" class battletech Mad Cat, the modelling link: http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...cial-unit.html
for rules: I wanted some feedback on where i've gone to so far, and if anyone thinks it's overpowered / unfair for the points i've used i would welcome criticism.
The two base unit's i'm merging are the Warhound Titan (P125, apocalypse), and the Eldar revnant Titan (P140, apocalypse)
I'm using the Revnant's base cost (higher by 50 points) but merging the two to imperialise the weaponry.
The Basics (and why)
WS 3, - (Unusually high WS for titans, I stuck with the revnant's as it's quicker due to lighter AV)
BS 4, S10, - (same in both)
FrntAV12, SideAV12, RearAV10 - (I chose the revnants AV as it's jump capable, so can't be too heavy, besides it's fairer)
Init 2, - (I chose the quicker of the two Inits due to the lighter armour making it quicker.)
Attacks 1 - (same)
Structure Points 3 - (same)
Agile - (same on both)
Jump Jets - (The revnant's special rule, as it's lighter armoured and that's what i wanted the model to do)
Reactor Meltdown - (6D6, as per imperial reactors going boom. Should i reduce this as i'm going to be operating in the opponents half of the board?)
Void Shields 2 - (I gave it the warhounds compliment as it's an imperial titan, should i reduce it to 1?)
The comparison between the two titan's weapons aren't actually that dissimilar.
Both have two primary weapons, but the revnant has a missile launcher
Revnant Missile Launcher
24"Range, S5, AP3, Heavy4
- That's not an imperial weapon. I was going to keep a missile launcher as I'm paying the higher base cost out of the two titans (the revnants) and it not only fits well fluff wise (reduced recoil and i wanted shoulder mounted missiles) but It's a good one for modelling (In short it'll look sweet, and is easy to do.) also, your opponent just glances at it and knows what it is. (Always a bonus)
- To make it imperial i was going to make it a Whirlwind Missile Launcher - It's got a improved range, and is blast, but Drops AP and is far less effective vs light vehicles. So, it's better vs light infantry, but not against heavier infantry / vehicles.
Both Titans have two - The revnant has to have the same weapons though. A brief summary of the comparisons:
Pulse lasers = Two Heavy2, 5"blast D weapons, range 60" - a good weapon.
Sonic Lances = Two Hellstorm 3+to wound, AP2, Pinning - exellent anti-infantry short range.
Turbo Laser Destroyer = Same as pulsar, but 96" range
Plasma blast gun = Strength, not D, larger blast(s), another exellent anti-infantry (and vehicle due to ordinance)
Inferno gun = It burns infantry, alot.
Vulcan Mega Bolter = Heavy 15, 60", S6 AP3 - good anti infantry / light vehicle.
Well, the sonic lances are out as xenos weaponry, and i can't put a inferno cannon on it that'll look good, besides i don't want it overpowered (hellstorm template weapons on something that's so fast)
Both have a very similar weapon, the Turbo Laser Destroyer / Pulse Lasers - The only difference being the reduced range on the revnant. I was going to use this, modelling it by doing wracks of Valk hellfire missiles, so it'll look neat. I can do 8 i reckon, and i was considering having it as limited ammo (fire 2x at a time, (heavy 2) after 4 turns it's out of ammo) but making it a special rule - if it doesn't move more than 6"or fire any other weapons it can fire all of them - It'll then not have a second primary weapon, but can lay down up to 8x 5" D templates (bit overpowered methinks - what's your opinions?)
The second weapon would be a vulcan mega bolter, (I'd use the shadowsword spare slung under the cockpit) - simple and easy, looks right and very imperial.
However, the first titan i'd do would have a cargo capacity of 12 men (no getting back in!) and to represent this, I was going to swap the vulcan mega bolter for 3x Multilasers (Must be fired at same target) to compensate for the cargo capacity, and reduced ammo capacity. (Modelled with the old chimera multilaser under the cockpit and 2x sentinal multilasers eather side. If done right they should be moveable.)
Just a few comments about Knights:
They don't have plasma reactors, they have huge fuel cells so maybe 2d6 for the explosion.
They have energy shields, which are like voids except they can't come back - 2 or 3 of those could do.
Eldar titans have holofields - AV12 is very weak for something so expensive that doesn't.
VMB and TLD - good weapons just give them less range and less shots for the Knight versions.
Just remember that one Warhound should be worth 2-3 Knights, so reflect this in points, weapons etc. Of course you can make something much bigger than a Knight and ignore all this
Okay, let's change it to battery, 2D6 for blast, (a 6D6 blast would be mean to the opponent anyway)
Energy Shields x 2 (No Repair)
AV 13 at front (But it's light anyway)
60" range for the Missiles (Used as TLD)
The Vulcan Mega Bolter will be replaced with 3x multilasers on the first one, so i'll leave their range
It'll stay at 800, to best reprasent the rarity of it and finish all arguments as that's the same / higher than any of the two it's based on.
Thanks for advice, Rep
