Welcome to Librarium Online!
With 8th addition FB, my friend Minority has shown me that the Always Strike First rule has one kinda good thing bout it... that if you have a great weapon with ASF, the always strike last rule for great weapon kind of cancels out the ASF and so you go in initiative order as per normal.
But, with the High Elves, namely Sword Masters of Hoeth and White Lions, I saw in the Games Workshop forums that they are an exception to this rule....personally I was jumping for joy at this but is it over powered????
I dunno, I think it is a bit OP that you all of a sudden have these awesome swordsman that strike first at strength 5, with 2 attacks (3 for Bladelord), and then re-roll failed hits......
I would really like to know your thoughts on this.
Chaos Lord: .....
Ever since 8th ed i have thought HE's where broken because of the ASF rule. I think something need to be done about it but just with the re-rolls no problem with them been fast as thats what there ment to be. Before the re-rolls sword masters where good but now there truly sick!
At 15 pts for an AS5+, T3 model, I'd expect some benefits when they survive contact with the enemy. Especially now that High Elf cavalry is not really worthy (most cavalry is nerfed but Elven cavalry more-so than many as they are S3 with lances and probably won't be breaking the enemy first round anytime soon..)
TBH HE get a good deal with their elites IF they get into combat, but they are expensive, lack effective missile support unlike DE equivalents and lack toughness or armour of their Chaos equivalents. A min core SM army would get shot to pieces against ANY gunline worth its salt. A bit like the Last Samurai...
Plus remember you pay for ASF (points wise)- i've never felt HEs were overpowered, even though people have been bleating about it since the last army book came out. Plus its fluffy!
