This isn't a rule as such but I wasn't sure where to post this.
Is it me or are there hardly any animals/monsters in 40k?
Personally I'd like to see more animals/monsters in 40k. Yea, Yea, they'd probably be shot down pretty soon, but giving them some pretty good armour wouldn't be such a bad idea. Maybe it ruins the whole futuristic effect for some of you but this is my opinion so I wanna hear yours..
I'm not sure what you mean, dude. But more animals in 40k seems kind of stupid. If anything, current trends show fewer and fewer animals in modern combat and there's little reason to think the future holds otherwise.

You mean like dragons and griffons and things like that? Hmm... It might work. As long as it has some bionics or something. I remember seeing a spacewolf riding a griffon on dakkadakka.com. it looked quite good. But not every army should have monsters I think. Spacemarines, Chaos, eldar, dark eldar, orks and kroot should be the only ones.

Why these ones particularly? Orks and Kroot I can understand, but they already have monsters of a sort (Squiggoth and Krootox), but what would induce the others to use animals in battle? And the nids are an all monster army, or at least already field a sizeable amount of what could be construed as monsters.Originally Posted by Absoluthor
I'm not thinking of 'race specific' monsters like Squiggoths, carnifex and Great Knarlocks. I'm thinking of more traditional fantasy monsters like hydras, manticores, wyverns etc. I think orks are likely to capture beasts and use them in battle, as are some CSM and SM. Eldar and Dark Eldar would look good on flying monsters. Classic fantasy monsters would ruin the image of IG, Necrons, Tau and tyranids, but in the other races they kind of fit.

But can you have that many galaxy-spanning monsters? Most would be native to a particular world, or a sector. For them to be widespread enough to be used in armies like that would require some major galactic homogeneity, which I doubt will happen in a hurry. Although Dark Eldar and Eldar are self-contained enough to reasonably pull it off.
I would really like to see a Guard Monster. Perhaps a "Super Ogryn" or some such fluff. Why should the Xenos and Chaos have all the fun!

I think 40k has enough monsters in it now as it is.Bringin in more would sway it more towards fantasy and lose its Futurised image were theres hi tech guns and slick tanks.
Whoa those things are weird as i didnt like many of them i have to say.
