Welcome to Librarium Online!
I've had this idea for a little while, but I've never actually thought about making it until now. I think a Norscan army for WHFB would be a really cool idea. I was thinking a Viking-esque kind of army, with unit types similar to Medieval-Total War's vikings, and the Norse from Age of mythology.
The men could be a conversion of chaos marauders and chaos warriors, and various other things for the special units. They could have Yhetees, possibly some ogres, maybe trolls, even something a little out there like bison riders perhaps. They could have packs of hunting dogs, and in the hordes of chaos army book, it has some fluff at the start about creatures called 'were', which presumably are similar to werewolves, which would be a bit of fun.
This army would have quite a few mythical creature types in it for something different, backed up by the norscan viking foot troops. What would be really cool is an Ice dragon, to rival the dragons of all those other petty armies! Mwah ha ha ha! For magic, there could be something similar to the kislevites with their ice witches, but I was thinking more of a shaman kind of spellcaster, with magics like Ice(Kislev book), beasts and shadow even.
But seriously though, what do people think about this idea? Is it feesable? If so, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If I do take this on,a sample army list with stats and units and stuff might be coming sometime in the near future.
I suggest you have a talk with the guys on this topic: http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...ad.php?t=41765 (WFB non-chaos Norse)
They're working on Norsemen too.
How many of these topics are going to made?
I completely agree with you about people working together on it, the only reason why I posted this is because I wasn't aware of any other threads to do with the Norscans, so thanks to Araith for telling me about the other one. I apologise for any inconvenience caused by my starting of another thread about the same thing, I just didn't know of any others. Some people would just really like to see the Norscans made, hence why there are so many posts about it.
No need to apologize, its just that with all of these other topics out there your ideas would be much more gratified if you posted with them and came up with really good ideas.
yeah buddy, i started a thread taking a slightly different angle (more historical based less mythological) but would love to hear your ideas! we could combine our forces muwhahahha
PLAN CLAN MAN!!
He who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man- S. Johnson
Sorry I haven't replied, I was a little pre-occupied. I had a few ideas I wrote down a while back, they are mostly taken from Age of Mythology unit types.
Ulfsark - Infantry - Core Unit
They form the backbone of the norse army. They are lightly armoured, and carry two hand axes. They look like rugged norscan soldiers who wear animal pelts (usually bear).
Throwing Axemen - Ranged Infantry - Core unit
The norse dont have archers, so instead they have throwing axemen. They are close-range, but fast moving skirmishers, who are armed with throwing axes and a handaxe. Generally unarmoured.
Raiders - Light Cavalry - Core unit
These men ride fast horses and are equipped with flails and throwing axes. They are more of a hit-and-run unit than a stalwart cavalry unit. Lightly armoured.
Huskarl - Heavy infantry - Special unit
Huskarls are heavily armoured warriros who carry the battle to the enemy with great weapons, such as great axes, great swords or warhammers. They are the elite infantry of the norse army.
Jarl - Heavy Cavalry - Special unit
Jarls are the equivalent of mounted Huskarls. They are the elite cavalry of the norse, and have great weapons, flails or spears. They have heavy armour, and barded steeds.
Hersir - Hero
Hersirs are fairly cheap heroes, that are similar to Huskarls, but have a wide choice of weaponry. Hersirs are middle rank cheiftains that led small armies to battle.
King - Lord(Lord and hero choice)
The leader of all Norsca, the single most skilled warrior known to the tribes. A force to be reckoned with.
Valkyrie - Spellcaster hero
A female warrior, also a practicioner of magic. They command the powers of ice, beasts and shadow.
Raid Cheiftain - Lord
Chosen from among the most vicious and brutal champions in the tribes, the raid chieftain is a relentless foe, is bloodthirsty, and inspires the troops to conquer all that stand in their way.
Shaman - Lord
The most powerful magic user in their tribe, the shaman does blessings, curses, can control the environment around him, and unleash all hell on the enemy.
Vallhallans - Rare
Of the Norscan men that die in battle, the greatest warriors go on to Vallhalla, where they train for eternity until the day they are needed, Ragnarok. Some have been known to return to help out their comrades if they are desperately in need. The Vallhallans are the best of the best of the best sir! Not even death could stop them.
Ice Trolls - Monsters - Rare
Trolls said to live in the icey mountains in Norsca can be tamed and taught to fight, or just generally captured and let loose on the battlefield. Either way, chaos occurs.
The Were- Monsters - Special
These cursed being have been possesed by an evil wolf spirit (at least in the opinion of the shamans), and fight with the strength and ferocity of a wolf. Not to mention the claws, fangs and fur of one too.
Niddhog - Legendary Monster - 2 rares
Niddhog, the world dragon, is awakened from it's slumber beneath the earth in times of great need by the shamans. A powerful dragon that assists the norscans in return for a great sacrifice.
Frost Giant - Monster
A huge creature of ice that flings rocks/glaciers at the enemy and can can crush them with their bare hands.
Ballista - Artillery - Rare
Well, there you go. A bunch of ideas. Some historical, some complete fluff. What do you think?
