Hello all - I've been browsing regularly since Chemicalcaveman introduced me to LO, but I've finally got a reason to post and, thus, sign up .
Jaedenkaal (Eldaronline member) and I have been working on an extensive revision of the Eldar Codex for 4th edition. As we near completion of this 'house rules codex', we've been able to get some serious testing in and would like to open up the discussion to a wider base of players. Click Here for the codex
The idea here was to give Eldar a new 'niche' - "knife-fighting," that is, short range shooting, plus of course all the close combat stuff we know and love. So several units/weapons (especially) have been altered to reflect that role. Farseer powers have been expanded and shifted to encompass a more "tricksy" area rather than rather brutal effects.
Probably the most drastic change that we included was the replacement of aspect exarch powers with aspect honours, which are purchased an a per-model basis and affect the unit as a whole, rather than simply the exarch. The honours also help define each aspect into one role, some roles more obvious than others.
Following the trends of the two previous 4th edition codices, we've adjusted pricing and attempted to make the less used units better or cheaper (or both), and the over-used units costlier/worse, if only slightly. Things like Holo-field, starcannons and wraithlords bore the brunt of the assault.
Please, if you can take the time to read it, it would be very much appreciated. We know it's long read but it should be complete, and if you were to post any comments you have on the new rules, the rules we didn't change, and basically anything that comes to mind -we would be greatly obliged. If you have lots of time we'd love to see what army lists you can come up with.
If you do find something we've added that you think is rediculously over-powered, by all means create an army specifically designed to take advantage of our oversight.
Current 'To do' list:
-Amplify / Spirit Gunner need new names.
-Craftworld Eldar lists (WIP)

Why not just copy and paste it? I'd like to see it, but I dislike dling stuff...

Sadly, it's far too big to fit in any post in a readable format. It's really an extensive codex re-write - unit stats, wargear, summaries... everything but the fluff and the pictures.
It should be downloadable even with dial-up, and as safe as I can make it.
I'll see what I can do about that. As it is, it's on the only webspace I have immediate access to (my other one is down). I'll see what stuff I can sign up for and post, then.
Edit: It's looking like typical weblogs won't let me post something that long, and formatting becomes a real hassle. I'll split it up and post it later today - but really, for those that don't mind, the word doc linked to above is far easier to read.

Theres some really good ideas in here that are really interesting and could be useful but some things weren't changed that should have been. For starters, the fire prism, it is stil pretty useless. The avatar should be alot better than that, it should be able to hand it to a bloodthirster no sweat.

This sounds great... but where is a link? I really really want to read it.
First off let me say that this "house rules army codex" does give some needed power back to the Ancient Noble Race. However, what it gives with one hand its takes away with the other. Yes it gives new HQ, Elites, Pheonix Lords, Wargear, and Psyc powers but it cripples the eldar yet again with the following reductions:
Shuriken Catapults - Increased range of 18 inches but takes a S8 AP4 weapon to a S4 AP5. Oh and at this range only 1 shot. So while it appears that you will get an extra shooting phase before your guardians are massacred in HTH, you really don't and the strength of the shots you do get off won't do as much damaged. You will still get annihilated by tyranids and genestealers and won't make dent in them as they swarm.
Also, WHAT HAPPENDED TO MIND WAR. could be sweet with some of the other Farseer wargear!
Lastly, the statement about this codex giving the Eldar a niche in Knife fighting - WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING? You certainly didn't upgrade guardians or any other Aspect Strengths, Toughnesses, or Weapon Skills to make them HtH effective. And you neutered the primary weapon of the Eldar - The Shuriken Catapult.
Nice try guys, but you better go back to the drawing board. If these rules actually formed an official codex. You might as well kill of the Eldar from the 40K universe and start another army. May be another Marine Chapter - Ooh won't that be original.
