Welcome to Librarium Online!
OK Couldn't see a thread like this at first glance so here's my idea of a cool houserule which allows for a little more shooting action.
Basically, the 4th Ed. states that if a figure moves, it can't shoot a rapid fire more than 12 inches, and also if it fires it can't assault. so my rules are as follows.
1) Any model (excluding Heavy Weapons) can move and fire up to their maximum range, or twice up to half range.
2) Any model which fires in the shooting phase may be permitted to assualt enemies although removing the +1 modifier for charging (if you're shooting someone before you charge them they're not going to be stunned by it are they???)
What do you guys (and girls) think of these rules?
Are they viable in gaming terms, because I've tested them myself and it just allows a little more shooting and assualting, which is never a bad thing when you wanna get to grips with your enemy!
Yes but it takes away the advantage of assault weapons. This unbalances the game because it allows a guy with a plasma gun to shoot more than a melta gun. It also puts armies like the tyranids whose only weapons are assault at a huge disadvantage. I think that the rapid fire rules are fine and most armies that have rapid fire weapons are shooty armies. We had a huge debate in the Space Marines sections over this and blood angels.

The rules you suggest are identical to those from the 3rd Ed trial assault rules, which were modified to become the 4th ed rules. Through playtesting, GW found them unbalancing.

Hit the nail on the head with that comment. I play nids and full movement rapid fire would eat my troops down so bad. Another thing that hinders nids is that some people play with the "assualt keeps going between two units until one of them is dead" ie - no morale. This places nids at a huge disadvantage against armies like necron that can wbb and keep fighting, slowly picking off your troops.Originally Posted by Warrior47
