(This is the Emperor's Hands codex. The Emperor's Hands are a chapter based in the Requiat Star Cluster that plays a major part in the Violet Crusade, a campaign I am writing up for a local Games Workshop store that pits mostly space marines and imperial guard against chaos. These guys have what I hope is an interesting quirk to them, and I attempted to illustrate this in a fluffy manner, as well as present the material in a well-written and entertaining format. I attempted to make this codex look as much like a professional one as possible.
I am also planning on creating some conversions of Emperor's Hands space marines to take pictures of and showcase for this. I also want to do a conversion for Chapter Master Fabrizio Gure and Brother-Captain Amrael Gorro, but for these last two I'm not sure exactly where to start, as I am new to conversion. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.
I also want to try to get some hand drawings of the emperor's hands up, after I master drawing Mk.VII armour.
As always, comments and criticism are greatly welcomed and encouraged. I'm willing to make changes to try and make this codex as balanced and fluffy as possible.)
EMPEROR'S HANDS CHAPTER
[The Emperor strikes through us!][The blood of Martyrs is the seed of the Imperium.]
They were good, strong swords, made from anointed steel and blessed in the Emperor's name. The two adversaries took up a blade each, and circled each other slowly. Their stern glares bore deep into the other's eyes, but their faces showed no emotion, no trace or hint of their thoughts. From behind him, a Marine pulled out an instrument made from an oil drum and animal leather, and began to pat it with his hand in a slow, steady rhythm. Those gathered began to chant, low and steady. Another Marine procured a lyre, and began plucking out a simple melody as the warriors swung at each other. The blades crashed and sparked as they hit each other and slid away. The warriors spun, swinging their blades together again in a shower of sparks and wild noise. The chanting grew louder and the drum beat faster. Whirling in a spectacle of gold and white fabrics, the Warrior Monks of Mannragor continued their dance, spinning and shouting in time with the drum beats and the lyre notes. Their blades sang out a tune of their own to the rhythm of the drum, until finally the drum was silent and the lyre player was still. The blades crashed together but once more, and a third hand shot out from over one marine's shoulder to knock away the blade and push his own home in a final blow that fell in time to the last chanted note of the Monks all around them.
The two backed away from each other, bowed, and set their danceblades back upon the podium.
The Emperor has bested Horus once more.

HISTORYThe Adepta Ministorum had, for millenia after the Cursed Founding, searched for more reliable ways to fuse geneseed together to create chapters without the flaws of their parents. They, of course, failed miserably throughout most of their testing. Late in M38, they finally managed a successful fusion of Roboute Guilliman's geneseed with Rogal Dorn's geneseed, creating what they hoped to be the purest marine chapter in the Imperium. Early in M39, the first chapter using a version of this geneseed was founded under Mandrag Kist, and was given the title "Emperor's Hands." They were given to the Requiat Star Cluster as a sentinel chapter. Their recruits, quite obviously, come from the surrounding planets and systems, namely Trebel IIV, a desolate Death World where a savage tribal population has evolved. Just as fierce and murderous as other marine initiates, the Trebellians also have in their culture an affinity for music and dance, utilizing these artforms in almost every aspect of their lives and deaths to record history, settle civil disputes, and to even convey complex strategies and tactics to far away tribesmen when in one of the countless tribal wars of the planet.Originally Posted by Historian's Log
For half a milennia, the Chapter patrolled the Requiat star cluster and fought off the Eldar Pirates and Ork raiders who insisted on trying to threaten the Imperium with their presence. A fiercely loyal, honorable, stubborn, and effective fighting force, the Emperor's Hands did seem to be the perfect sentinel for the Requiat System.
The Combat Style of the Emperor's Hands relies heavily on seige fortifications, from which assault troops and landspeeder groups strike out in the lull of the battle to slaughter and harass enemy troops. Once out of their defensive seige positions, the Hands immediately take to close-combat.
The Shivus MutationIn M40, a Warp Rift slowly opened up in the Requiat star system, a freak occurance that did not prove especially worrisome to the Imperium, but still required even further vigilance by the sentinel chapter. Within a century of the Warp Rift's birth, the onset of chaotic mutation began to run through the ranks of the Emperor's Hands. Termed the Shivus mutation by the Apothecaries, every measure possible was taken to stop the spread, and remove all trace, to no avail. Every time the extra limbs were removed, they would grow back once more, stronger and more-developed than before.Originally Posted by Historian's Log
Brother-Librarian Katriel hypothesized that it was a flaw of the geneseed they were created from, one that had been kept dormant until the Warp had ripped through the barrier between the Empyrean and Realspace. A sister chapter, the Nemesis Knights of Ostrogo, was made from similar geneseed. The Ostrogo system had a warp storm on its edges, and so the Knights would have been subjected to the powers of the Warp for a much longer time than the Emperor's Hands were. Thought the Chapter Master Yalgo Strafe denied that anything was wrong with his Marines, Katriel needed to see for himself. When Orks began their attack of Ostrogo IX, an important agri-world, Katriel saw the perfect opportunity to confront Strafe.
Leaving with the entire 4th company, Brother-Librarian Katriel departed for Ostrogo on the battle barge Fortis Mannus. The rift exploded into a full-fledged warp storm just as the ship passed by it, and the barge and all the marines were swallowed whole and disappeared forever.
by the 666th year of M41, the Emperor's Legion had been ravaged by the mutation, despite the librarians' and apothecaries' best efforts to stem the chaotic tide. The once great, proud Marines of Mannragor had been reduced to four-armed mutants and subject to the wrath of the Inquisition at any moment.Homeworld: MannragorOriginally Posted by Chapter-Master Fabrizio GureClad in bronze and golden yellows and a bone trim, they easily stand out in the naturally purplish light of the Requiat worlds, partly by sunlight and partly by atmospheric conditions. The Emperor's Hands chose the world of Requiat II as their homeworld, and the Imperial records show the planet's given name as Mannragor. A desert planet, Mannragor is covered in a blanket of white sand, tinged lavender by the atmosphere, blowing in the world's constant gentle winds. The fortress-monastary of the Emperor's Hands is a massive structure carved and built from white and black marble. Statues of heroes line up in one of the many courtyards stretching from the monastary, and meditation halls dot the landscape all around. Considered an architectural marvel in the system, the architecture of the planet are crafted from the abundant marble and granite sources found under the shifting sands of the planet. Their buildings stand tall and strong, gleaming pearly-white with only a tint of purple in the sun's light. Statues of the Emperor, Rogal Dorn, and great ancient Heroes can be found at the front of the monastary, and arches leading from the building tell the tale of each hero in vivid detail, lining out their accomplishments in the safeguarding of Humanity from the most detestable and insidious of threats.Originally Posted by DATAFILE

(Houserules. I believe the Shivus mutation can be used without the points cost and subsequent masteries in non-houserule games.)
Emperor's Hands Space Marines may use any and all equipment allowed as per the Codex: Space Marines armoury. However, they also gain access to the follow 'upgrades'.
Shivus Mutation: 2 points/model
Required for Shivus Mutation Combat/Shielding Masteries. Represent this with two arms popping out from under the backpack of the space marine, behind the pauldrons. The arms are not armoured, so paint them with flesh tones. In addition to the ability to purchase the two masteries, any army with the Shivus mutation may not ally with any Alienhunters, Witchhunters, or Daemonhunters armies. They may not take Grey Knights, Inquisitorial Stormtroopers, or Sisters of Battle as allied forces, and may not be used as allies by any Inquisition forces. A marine with the Shivus mutation benefits from +1 Toughness, but this bonus does not affect the marine when determining Instant Death. This bonus does not stack with the Toughness bonus for riding a combat bike.
Shivus Mutation Combat Mastery: 30 points/model
Useable by any veteran space marine NOT in terminator armour. Mastery of this mutation allows the marine to carry another close combat weapon into battle. The extra weapon's cost is added onto the Combat Mastery's cost. This allows a space marine with the Shivus mutation to gain a benefit of +1 attacks IF they qualify for the benefit from multiple close combat weapons. (IE Two Close Combat weapons and 2 lightning claws, but not one close combat weapon AND one lightning claw). If the model uses lightning claws, he may only gain the bonus from putting the in his normal arms, none on his shivus.
You must designate which of the three weapons your marine is using is being handled by the Shivus arms to determine your marine's disadvantage. If it is a long-range weapon, that weapon suffers -1 BS, due to an inability to aim properly with such awkwardly-placed arms. If it is a close combat weapon, that weapon strikes at -1 WS due to the awkward placing of the arms and the extra distance they must travel to strike. Represent this on the model with the Shivus arms holding weapons of some sort.
Eviscerators and Heavy Weapons may NOT be wielded by Shivus arms, the rationale being that the weapons are too heavy and unwieldy to be carried by such an awkward mutation. All forms of Bolters are still allowed to be carried by Shivus arms.
Shivus Mutation Shielding Mastery: 10 points/model
Useable by any Emperor's Hands space marine, including terminators. Use the Bionics wargear rule, only the model stands back up on a 5+ rather than a 6+. May be bought along with bionics, but you may only use one per death. As the arms are blown off as a result of a successful shielding, once passed, you may not use this ability again. If this model also has the Combat Mastery, the weapon that the player has designated as carried in the Shivus arms is also lost. This skill may not be used against Instant Death.[A small mind is easily filled by faith.]Originally Posted by Chapter-Master Fabrizio Gure of the Emperor's Hands
Chapter-Master Fabrizio Gure ~ 170 pointsChapter Master Fabrizio Gure is a man of prodigious talent at combat and tactics; a formidible master of assault with an eye for defense. He is one of the last known surviving Emperor's Hands who had fought alongside the mighty Mandrag Kist, the founder and greatest hero of the Chapter. Revered by his brothers and admired by his peers, Fabrizio is a walking, breathing icon of what the Emperor's Hands all aspire to be. The most steadfast, most loyal, and most honorable of all of the defenders of Humanity."Do not yield an inch to the scum!" Roared Fabrizio as he stormed through the bunker, his Devastator squad returning the Chaotic fire with blessed plasma and the hellfire of holy lascannons, the constant screams of cultists and traitorous guardsmen echoing through the dun walls of the defensive fortification. They had been fighting a war of attrition for almost three days now, and Marine casualties had been mercifully light.
He turned to a squad of bristling Assault Marines, who had uncrossed their Shivus arms in preparation for the oncoming battle. Fabrizio's own arms twitched involuntarily underneath his adamantine mantle, and he drew the crimson fabric closer to his body subtly as he surveyed his men. The men quickly recrossed their arms under their Chapter-Master's stern gaze. They knew his thoughts.
"Squad Gabriel, begin the assault. Strike the heretics at the heart!" They rushed through the armoured portcullis, jump packs already beginning to flair up. He turned back to his Devastators as the Assault Squad made their way to the traitorous Lost and Damned to show them the fate of heretics.
It was barely a moment after he turned when the entire bunker rocked violently from a massive explosion. The roof caved in, falling upon Fabrizio and his squad in massive chunks, like a hail of stony boulders. Within moments, the squad was half-buried, the survivors struggling madly to regain their footing and free themselves from the building material.
His squad had been decimated.
Fabrizio stood slowly, eyes blazing, and glared out at the clamoring tide of debauchery and evil. Daemons, Traitor Marine allies, daemonic machinery, and the root of the problem, the Traitor Guard themselves, all jeered and glowered back, rushing their position in what would almost certainly be the Emperor's Hand's last stand.
He closed his eyes, holding his Hammer out before him, meditating upon the glory of the Emperor and offering what would be his last silent prayer to his Lord and Creator. His eyes snapped open, his face contorted into the ultimate mask of rage and hatred, as he raised his weapon up high and roared mightily. His hammer shimmered, and then erupted into a brilliant and fearsome display of the Emperor's Spirit.
Men screamed and daemons wailed as the Emperor's might was made manifest through the weapon's divine spirit. Fabrizio lowered his weapon, then, with the remainder of his squad, rushed forward.
"For honor and glory!"
He viewed the corruption of the chapter through the Shivus mutation as disheartening and horrific at the same time, being among the latest to succumb to the Chaotic Taint. He has never used his arms for anything, keeping them bound by chain behind his back and hidden under his crimson adamantine mantle.
His prized possession, The Emperor's Soul, was discovered on Requiat I early in M40 from a mining crew that had been hunting down a trail that they believed to be heading to an ancient temple from the Golden Age of Technology. Shortly after unearthing the relic, a large band of Eldar raiders suddenly attacked the planet. The miners were slaughtered and the relic captured, but before the foul xenos could leave the planet, the battle barge Fortis Manus had destroyed their orbiting ships through boarding actions, and then-Captain Fabrizio Gure himself led the raid on the planet's surface. His Devestator squads annhilated most of the Eldar force, and Techmarine Mechiaus managed to recover the relic from the despised Eldar hands.
Mechaius and Gure both travelled to Mars as Mechaius presented the discovery to the Mech Adepts of the Red Planet. The visit took weeks as the Adepts studied and restudied every circuit and nut and bolt of the weapon, and at the end of 3 weeks, Mechaius returned to Fabrizio, presenting the sactified and newly-blessed Emperor's Soul thunder hammer to Gure as a gift from the Machine God's followers.Any Emperor's Hands army of 2,000 points or more may include Commander Fabrizio Gure as an HQ choice. The Terminator's Honours attack bonus has already been included in his profile above. If taking a Command Squad retinue, while the marines in the retinue may have the Shivus mutation, they cannot have any of the Shivus masteries.Code:\WS\BS\S\ T \W\I\ A \Ld\Sv \ 5\ 5\4\4(5)\3\4\3(+1)\10\2+, 4+ Invulnerable

The Emperor's Soul - This powerful weapon, created and then lost many millenia past, was recovered by and gifted to Fabrizio Gure. A symbol of his power and honour on Mannragor, it is also a potent Power Weapon, capable of unleashing hell upon his enemies both at quarters and from afar. The Emperor's Soul counts as a Thunder Hammer in close combat, but during the shooting phase it may be used with the following characteristics. The Chapter's Disgrace: Fabrizio considers the mutations in the chapter a curse and a disgrace, and seeks redemption from the Emperor. Ashamed of his taint, he hides his arms under his Adamantine Mantle, and fights with a fervour and strength of purpose that even his fellow Emperor's Hands do not display. For every wound that Fabrizio fails, add one attack to his profile. In addition, if a squad that Fabrizio is a part of fails a morale test, that squad may take the test again, but must accept the results of the second throw.Code:Weapon \Range \S\AP\Type The Emperor's Soul\ 24" \5\ 5\Heavy 1, Blast
Master of Sanctity Benjamin Håndbok ~ 145 pointsChaplain Benjamin Håndbok fairly recently attained the title of Master of Sanctity, and with good reason. Known for his stoicism, his courage, and his penchant for stubborn and wildly fierce resistance in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds, Chaplain Benjamin's last act of bravery to gain the universal respect of his Chapter was performed in space combat, orbiting Telanis IV. His battle barge, the "Gilded Hand," was attacked and boarded by piratical marines. Beating back the intruders, himself at the forefront of the marine defense, Benjamin and his closest brothers launched their own offensive upon the pirates, taking the head of the ship's captain and slaughtering the crew in glorious combat. He still wears the bleached skull of that pirate captain as a battle trophy. These marines had all gathered in the bunker, the three squads permitted a rest in the long seige for prayer and meditation. Master of Sanctity Benjamin Håndbok stod before them, upon his pedestal, and spoke out in a clear, mighty voice before the gathered. "It has been three long months, brothers. We have spent three glorious months in our armour, bringing hell upon our enemies from a distance. Three months, and the traitors have yet to reach our fortifications!" He held up his Crozius Arcanum, the potent energies in the deadly device radiating a holy aura that bathed his face in soft, almost imperceptible light. "My brothers, I say unto you that he who fights without fear dies without shame. He who would bring his weapon to bear upon the coward, the weakling, and the honorless will bring upon him the greatest of the infinite honours the most Holy Emperor bestows upon his greatest warriors. We are those warriors, my brothers. We hold our heads high and lash with fist and blade rather than the Whirlwind and Predator, and we are all the more blessed for it. None can withstand the holy wrath of the Emperor's Hands, for our fists are charged with the sacred spirit of the Emperor himself!"
He surveyed the room, and saw in each Marine's eyes the glimmer that came with the pride and honour of being one of the Emperor's finest warriors in the Imperium. He continued, bellowing out in a hearty voice, "This system is our responsibility and our heart, and even should we be reduced to ashes and bone dust, we will first crush the life out of all who threaten us - as the Emperor's Hands!"
And the room erupted into the Chapter's Battle Cry - "The Emperor strikes through us!"An Emperor's Hand army of 1,500 points or more may include Benjamin Håndbok as an HQ choice. Brother-Captain Amrael Gorro ~ 165 pointsThe first Marine to have developed a full set of Shivus arms, Brother-Sergeant Amrael was also the first to master the use of his new limbs. Considering himself cursed and blessed at the same time; Blessed by the Emperor and cursed by the Inquisition. He views his new limbs as gifts from the Emperor himself, and believes it is the Emperor's will that he and his brothers use this gift to the fullest in defense of the Imperium. They are, after all, the "Emperor's Hands". A valiant defense of the Forgeworld Requiat III from an army of Eldar marauders saw him elevated to the rank of Brother-Captain, and a grateful Artificer gave him a pair of Master-Crafted Lightning Claws as payment for their deliverance. His storm bolter roared as he launched himself into the battle, his jump packs beginning to flare. Crying out, Veteran Assault Sergeant Amrael Gorro launched himself into the air. His muscular, bared shivus arms spread themselves into a more angelic form as his main arms brought his twin chainswords revving down to slash open a single ork opponent. The vile xeno's lifeblood erupted all around him, drenching the Marine in the stench of death, and he looked upward to the oncoming green horde. His eyes gleamed as he charged the Orkish horde, cutting down greenskin after greenskin with his whirring chainswords. Every now and then, an ork fell to the ground, a chunk of its body blown away by the storm bolter in Amrael's extra hands.
The battle was over not long after it had begun. Amrael was left alone, the sole survivor of the melee between the Orks and his assault squad. His armour was pitted and broken; one of his Shivus arms had been sawed away by an Orkish knife. Amrael stood, panting and holding his chainswords before him, the whirring chains flinging droplets of gore and blood into the air before him.
Amrael roared into the purple-stained sky, holding his chainswords above him, as his jump packs revved to life to carry him into the chaos of battle once more.
Over years of dutiful service, and With his strength and skill, he has gained the prestige and trust of his superiors and peers as he leads his warriors of the Emperor's Hands Veteran Company in the valiant defense of the ever-grateful people of Requiat. As a commander, Amrael has proven very instrumental in the safeguarding of Requiat in the Violet Crusade, taking what others view as a curse and turning it into a blessing.Any Emperor's Hands army of 1,500 points or more may include him as an HQ choice. He may be accompanied with a Veteran Assault Command Squad, which MUST have the Shivus mutation and Furious Charge upgrade, as he only wishes to be accompanied by those who share his values in battle.Code:\WS\BS\S\ T \W\I\ A \Ld\Sv \ 5\ 5\4\4(5)\3\5\3(+1)\ 9\3+

[Vigilance is its own reward.]They stood in the corridor of their battle-barge, brother and brother, and gazed out at the cold emptiness of the stars. It had been a long, harrowing battle, and many had been lost defending an agri-world in the Requiat star cluster from a large ork invasion.
Brother Manuele frowned, scanning the wasteland of space with his eyes. Their navigator had not thrust their Barge into the hell of the warp yet, and he was able to simply watch the stars slide by, deceptively beautiful in their shimmering blanket, masking from all who viewed them the callous and horrific terrors in their hearts.
He spoke to the Captain who stood next to him, asking, "Brother-captain, why are we thus cursed, when others of our order continue to fight untainted and pure?" Atrophied limbs uncrossed themselves from around the Marine's waist, and he looked down at them, frowning further.
A long silence ensued. Brother-Captain Amrael Gorro softly responded to his Brother's question, saying, "I think it's obvious, Brother. The Emperor has divined that we will need an extra pair of hands for what the future will bring us."
The warp never looked so tame.
I didn't read most of the fluff, but its very well done. The only real problems I have are that the chapter master has only 2 wounds and no rites of battle (he has a chaplain ability instead and takes a chaplai command squad for some reason) and the battle brother captain person also has only 2 wounds. They should both have 3 for the points you pay for them.

heh... i find it amusing to see another "Emporer's Hand" army (as that's what I named mine... but for very different reasons...)
Mine are named the Hand because they are the first to "reach out" into the dangerous places (being composed of the criminally insane too dangerous to remain in other chapters...)
but hey, whatever works...
Personally, with your variant,
the extra arms thing would strike me to make sense for a scout oriented army, as befouling the glorious power armor of the marines by poking holes in them would seem to be a bad move...
but then your traits are kinda against being infiltrators...
Pictures of the Smigs Army for your amusement....
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.
"Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women"
"JESUS SAVES! the rest of your models each take a wound."
Bah, editting that stuff in notepad makes it hard to see such small details. They've been fixed, Phalanx.
And I knew there were going to be other "Emperor's Hands" armies out there. XD I had a bit of trouble trying to figure out how their arms would be represented, and having armour specially modified for their arms by their techmarines and servitor retinues seemed like the best solution at the time. Last time I posted stuff for them up, I was told that their armour wasn't unfluffy, so I went with it. I wanted my variant to be composed of warriors that tended to resemble Shiva, the many-armed being of destruction in Hinduism. Hence the devastators destroying the enemies first before the four-armed battle brothers finish the job.

Wonderful work. I thoroughly enjoyed this!
Shivus arms seem like a fun way to put a spin on vanilla Space Marines. I'd like to play against them. Good special characters too. What I really liked is your tactics, play defensively and respond with fast Assault Squads. Good stuff.

Haha! Glad to see someone really likes this stuff! Of all the ideas of chapters I've come up with, I've grown especially attached to the Emperor's Hands.
What I'll do, when I get the money, is convert a 2,000 point army of EHs, complete with Gure, Gorro, and Benjamin. Maybe you'd want to try making a small EH force yourself?
