I play imperial guard, and my bane is when someone gets in too close. consequently I been trying to figure out a rule to deal with this problem... The rule is called 'cut losses' and is inteded to reveal the way in which a commisar would deal with one of his units being locked in close combat too close to the main body and thereby jepeodizing the safety of the rest of the army.
Rule: Cut Losses
an imperial guard army, with a commisar, may choose to take a leadership test in order to fire upon a frinedly unit which is locked in closecombat.
each unit/squad selected to fire upon the close-combat mele, must make such a role. if successful they may fire, if the test is failed the unit is considered pinned and may not fire or assault on its next turn.
wounds will hit both friendly and none friendly models. to represent this any rolls which hit/wound are ascribed to the particular models which are clossest to the the firing unit. however, because close combat assaults are a swirling mele, the player may choose which of his/her models are to be removed if they fail to save.
all units in the close combat mele get their usual saves.
so that's my idea. it would obviously be a special rule for commissars.
what do you think
Give it a randomiser (hits you on a 1-3, opponent on 4-6) and make it only work within 18" and you have not half bad rule.
I had made rules for shooting into CCs before for multiplayer games. They would probably fit in well here. Do a search and use them if you want- just remember to credit me if you do use them. Of course the rules were only for enemy ccs so the LD rules would work well for shooting into your own ccs.
