The Imperial Guard obviously resemble a 20th century army in make up and design, and what would be cool would be the addition of a staple of WWI and WWII - bayonets!
Say for instance, instead of shooting in the shooting phase, it could attach bayonets before charging, giving it something extra in the first turn, such as:
Re-roll 1's on the to-wound rolls.
Anything like that. Possibly for about 10 points a squad.
i think bayonets already exist, rules wise: it's how guardsmen can make a close combat attack... there are many ways of swinging a rifle to deliver a blow but doing the stabby-stabby with a bayonet is a lot easier.
Good first post! (eventhough i don't really agree)
Ah I see. Was playing a game against the Tau last night, and we thought of another rule suggestion we both thought was cool but can't remember it for now, it'll come back to me!
aaaah, of the millions of good ideas i once had... i forgot most of 'em
i once dreamed i had the idea of a lifetime, i was going to make millions! then i woke up and couldn't remember
I think that is almost the same as the close order drill or what ever it's called. So the baynets are represented in that. The strenght would be way to much. Guardsmen with higher strenght than orks is wrong very wrong. That is saying that a little dagger on the end of a gun is better that a chainsword. The current close order drill works fine and makes sense.
Prey they don't take you alive
Haha i remember someone sent in some rules for Bayonets in one of the older white dwarf mags. They made it so that the enemy models would take a strength 3 hit or something if the models with a Bayonet were charged. Games workshops response was that it was far too powerful and that just a simple +1 to initiative would work better.
I think +1 to initiative would work just fine as long as you were to ones who were charged. 1 point per model sounds fair to me.
"Hey sarge, this lasgun is heavy. I wish we had something lighter."
FF7: ABOUT RANDOM BATTLES
I actually think something like an increase in leadership would better represent bayonets as combat knives and such are already floating around 40K.
This would represent the increased confidence that the guardmans would have with the better weapon. Maybe just a bonus of +1 in close combat.
Maybe you could have "chain bayonets" which are like small chainswords which could give a reroll to wound in close combat. 5pts each.
But I call to God, and the LORD saves me.
i think my morale would drop when i was ordererd to fix bayonets... what would you rather hear "lads, let's shoot at long distance till they're all dead!" or "ok guys, those tyranids over there are coming over here, let's do the stabby-stabby!"
