Nice, and thanks for the link.

Damn Star dragon! He's trying to ruin my Chaos dragons day! Chaos had the best stats dammit!!! Well, at least mine get 7 attacks and 2 breath weapon!!!! Mwhahahahah!!!

So im assuming 'speed of asuyan' is the stikes forst rule eh? I wonder what that make a basic elf now cost...

Regards, Tim

I think I saw something say a basic spear elf cost about 7 or 8 pts and an archer costs 11pts IIRC.

A 'basic' elf is 9 points, plus whatever extra shields/spears/bows cost...

Man, how nasty are White Lions? S6 always strike first? Hell yeah!

I would also like to know what Valor of Ages is.

Troops with a 4+ ward save? Wow.. considering characters pay around 40-50+ points to get that, and Brets lose first turn to get a 5/6+, thats pretty damn good

Speed of Asuryan on every Elf surprised me. Swordmasters striking in initiative order was bad enough, & now always first? yikes.. :0

Overall it looks like HE players would have to be pretty happy.

I dont think DE will be winning to many battles against HE for a year or 2..

Cheers

Ah, but then it would the the DE that start winning, unless GW makes them weaker, as opposed to stronger. You'll have your time, don't worry :).

I must say, I like the way they've set it out. I'd like to see the rest of them doing that.

Do the HE's even have any weaknesses now? They seem powerful.

Valor of Ages should be something that allows to reroll some morale tests. I got a quick view of the book at my local store, I couldn't read it carefully of course :| Not sure if you can reroll any test, or just 25% losses\units fleeing through each other.

I am looking forward to reading the armybook.
As am I. My miniatures keep asking me what they are allowed to do under the new rules, and I have to keep telling them that I don't have the book yet...:p

Well they are still fragile (apart from the new Phoenix Guard ward save of course), so once you start hitting them at range or in CC they should still die fairly easily. And of course they will still be heavily outnumbered against most opponents.

Yup, even chaos have the chance to outnumber someone now...

Just make sure you've got a fairly solid front rank and you should be able to survive a round of combat, and once you're hitting back they are still just elves...

*Dances*

Yay!!! Now all I need are the points costs and I am away. Bring on the 3rd of November and my new Highelf Spearhead!!!

Hope they have gone up to about 18pts each then ;p

HE players will most likely max out on that cheese and take as many SMs as possible. The flip side of their new-found power is that they will now be the main target of shooting & magic, so that might balance it out a bit.
Although it would be hard to ignore a dragon to shoot at troops..

I cant see Silver Helms ever being used now. Dragon Princes are far superior, especially if they arent 0-1 anymore and both are specials.

Cheers

They are still pretty vulnerable to shooting and magic, so unless the HE player has a good plan to protect them, they're by far not impossible to take down.

On the other hand, the Speed of Asuryan means that even 3 or 4 stubborn elves who refuse to flee can still pack a punch before they go down. I'm very curious to try my woodies against this army.

Nope. They've only gone up 2 points from currently.

I have heard that there is a talisman that is one use only, makes the user rerolls hits, rerolls wound, no armour saves, no ward saves, but he takes a wound. Combine that fellow with the +3s lance and you have a brutal heavy cavalry killer. Hell, save points and just use a normal lance since saves don't matter. Apparently the combo is cheap enough for a Noble.

The same price as a marine. Indeed the same is true for all three of the elite infantry.

No such Amulet exists as far as I am aware. But even then with starlance you are a cavary killer anyway. Four strength seven attacks that ignore armour saves is nasty enough.

i saw the new book and models in store on saturday adn all il say is

I CANNOT WAIT FOR IT TO HIT THE SHELVES,

the new models are fantastic i love the dragon riders and plastic mages, the white lion chariot is fantastic and the new rules rock for high elves, finally my habit of taking at leat three units of spearmen will be paying off, not to mention my phenoix guard now actually being useful (my fave unit)

16 attacks striking first who cares if your strength three your going to hurt something.

Time to dust off the 5000pts of high elves sitting under my bed and get a load more. The hosts of high elves under my leadership will march once more

I share your enthusiasm although my HE have not been residing under a bed. I am sick of talking about it and want to get on and play with the new rules.

I think the biggest difference is how people will initially attempt to counter the book rather than the player. Don't forget all the tricks and tactics you learned when the army wasn't as strong and you should do very well, all the same things will still apply except all cav is gone.

This is a problem I think. We will see however, but Reavers and Dragon Princes seem to have the cavalry pretty much sewn up for HE what would Silver Helms ever add?

thanks stewart for postin that, ur my hero.....

silver helms could be used as a mages escort. with no barding i think, so that they move fast, but still can protect the mage. Sword masters kick ass... but think about it, they are T3 with a 5+ armour. basic bowmen will kill them in reasonable numbers, and the fact that they are 18 points makes this worse. ennemmy handguns/longbows/bow will hone in on them and cause some damage. i wonder what martial prowess is for sea gaurd, hmm.. but anyway, if you can i would always always use a magic item that gives saves to units , like hymlers harp..... but im not sure if such an item exists... ( 20 man swordmaster..... 360.. around 400 pts that are real easy to shoot to death.) as for dragon princes, those look awesome... finally those awesome models have the hitting power they deserve. im over all happy with them. but enough shooting will rape high elves... but not quite as badly as WE, but HE are slower... as soon is i get my hands on my army set and codex im gonna start a tactica.
