'hatred is true power' ritual master garth, the 11th
I only know that it will be released about Aug-Oct next year, as that is the date on the Black Library website. It wouldn't surprise me if that was the subject on it. Great spot.
i doubt the ultramarines played virtually no part in the heresy they wre too far away as horus didnt want to go upa gainst guillimans tactical brillance adn that his legion was larger than the sons of horus. Unless im no remebering the story right.
I imagine it could be the story of sanguinius going up against the khorne demon that he later kills on terra that severly wounds him and where the angles eventually learn the blood rage.
Either way thougn im looking forward to it and it cant be any worse than descent of angels which bored me

And here I heard it was about the Adeptus Mechanicus and their schism, leading to a battle on Mars between the two factions. Zounds!
The Ultramarines WERE involved in the Heresy. The Horus Heresy lasted for several years - if Horus had just ignored the Ultramarines, far away as they were, there is no way he would have been able to avoid them as long as he did. The Ultramarines were tied up by a distraction force for almost the entire duration of the war, and now that I think about it, I do believe it WAS the Word Bearers...
I thought I read that the original poster was looking for other good HH books. Well, the series titled (unsurprisingly) the Horus Heresy is actually quite amazing. Focuses on the Luna Wolves, but has begun to branch out to other Legions. There's currently four or five of 'em, and the first is called "Horus Rising."
I hope this does involve the Ultramarines (as I love em the most), though I can't imagine Graham McNeill letting anyone else get to tell their part of the Heresy era if he can help it!
As has been said they were quite isolated from the Imperium at the time of the Heresy (victims of their own success; they had crusaded so far into the galactic south-east that they couldn't get back quickly enough), but as was noted Horus dedicated resources to keeping them away, and as was said the main component of this was the Word Bearers.
To be honest it could be anything - "The Battle For The Abyss" doesn't really suggest any particular Legion(s) to me. I'm sure it will be good though!
I don't believe it's the Mechanicus book either as I'm sure I read somewhere that someone else is doing that one... can't remember my exact source at the minute though, I think it was an interview with Graham McNeill.
The Ultramarines were actually tied up fighting the Alpha Legion the entire time. The Alpha Legion put down on a planet clearly within the Ultramarine's path, Guilleman not being a huge fan of Alpharius decided to fight them. If you like I can expand on the details, however if the book does indeed concern this then it might be considered a spoiler. Though with a name like Battle for the Abyss it sounds more like something along the lines of the Thousand Sons...
"If you can wait til I get home, then I swear we can make this last."
This is on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_for_the_Abyss
It seems that this book will describe the battle of Calth, between the Word Bearers and the Ultramarines.
