This was posted by Koris on the Space Wolf Community Forum by Koris. He works for GW and has been given the release plans for the year. He posted the following.
I'm new to the site but I thought what better way to start by announcing the new SW codex is on its way for sure!
I know I'm new here but I've been posting on the Ex-Libris board (Blood Angels) for years and also on a few other sites too.
I work for GW (I know, I know but this is seriously genuine), we've had our plans for the rest of the year given to us and it go's a little like this...
May- WFB and 40k Deamon release
June- LoTR release (Mordor) and Hordes of Chaos White Dwarf update
July- 40k 5th edition release
August- WFB Hordes of Chaos army book release
September- 40k Marines release
October- 40k replacement for 'Battle for Macragge' release (Marines v Orks)
November- WFB Dark Elves release
December- 40k SPACE WOLVES codex release!!! This is a FULL codex release not a Blood Angels style White Dwarf update. However, no details have been revealed on it's contents or on the models- so anything you hear/see in that department is just rumour at the moment.
That said, things are subject to change; as was the case for the 'Planet Strike' release, which has been pushed back to next year to allow the team time to sort out the new plastic Thunderhawk (yes, that's correct; a new plastic Thunderhawk!!). Also the Guard were supposed to be done in the last quarter of this year but they will now be early 2009 instead.
Fingers crossed that the above releases stay true and the Wolves get a shiny new Codex by Christmas 2008!!
However, just because there's a new release doesn't mean it will all be good news... I just hope the Wolves don't get "Blood Angel'd" and lose their character to turn into a standard chapter, as my beloved BA did.
Pretty much says what I have heard but I could not confirm. Now there is confirmation. I should also like to inform you all that the plastic drop pod model has been made and should hopefully be released this year.
Basically life sucks, there is only war and you're probably gonna get eaten by Tyranids, have fun.
interesting, I guess I'll hold off on selling my Wolves until I see the new codex then. It may just spark interest back into the Sons of Russ. Good find Jared.

Seconded! I remember having a friend of mine look at the new BA and just stumble away as if someone had just revealed he was actually an adopted monkey that merely looked human. Taking away all the special rules except DC was a slap to the face. Even then, we thought "Oh awesome, least the DC are free now, you just get 1 per squad with no guy removed!" Yea, it wasn't till some time later we noticed the note about an extra 30 pts tacked onto each squad to represent that. However, just because there's a new release doesn't mean it will all be good news... I just hope the Wolves don't get "Blood Angel'd" and lose their character to turn into a standard chapter, as my beloved BA did.
The Space Wolves have always been the most divergent chapter from the Codex standard way space marines should organize/behave, it would be an absolute attrocity to see them turned into Ultramarines 3.0. While they do have an excess of special rules it wouldn't really hurt to lose in the streamlining effort (like the DA/1K Sons animosity), I just hope the overall flavor of the chapter and many of their options are maintained.
Also, I really hope they include some reference to the 13th Company or the like in there. While it's doubtful, it would be a wonderfully welcome change to the current theme of simply outdating all of the Eye of Terror forces.
hmm I might have missed this and its a little off topic - but the release scheduale is here
but 3 months for them to realase the new rules with models after releasing the new rules sounds daft! Unless they pull all the existing starter sets from shops I could see a lot of confused and rather conned beginners in these times - course it might be nothing, but I would have thought that the change over would happen all at once

The release for the Starter set is true its in Setpember and has been confirmed numerous times by people like Brimstone and Harry from Warseer. I agree this is a dumb approach and hope GW might realise this and change it.
Only thing I see thats wrong is HOC WD army book then two months later a real one? Whats up with that?
Armies: Dark Eldar, Ogre Kingdoms, Beasts of Chaos, Orcs & Goblins, Warriors of Chaos
Past Armies: Dwarfs, Mortal Chaos, Imperial Guard, Space Marine
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!
The rumours on the SW-armylist has also started on warseer. Looks promising. What I know...
I have no idea if the SW codex will be out this year. I have not heard that it will, but then I have not heard that it won’t. I do know that some playtesting has certainly been done and is ongoing.
Blood Claws are armed with BP&CCW, frag & krack and can take special weapons or PF/PWs. Furious Charge instead of berserker charge. Minimum squad size is 10 and they can go as high as 20. WS goes up to 4 but BS stays at 3.
Grey Hunters are armed like Chaos marines (i.e. everything). No more True Grit, but Counter Charge stays for this unit; can take an assortment of special weapons or PF/PWs. Squad Leader is a wolf guard with options like a vet sergeant from CA
Jump pack Blood Claws are a separate entry now.
Wolf Guard are split into two squad types - terminators and power armour.
All wolf scouts can infiltrate or come on from any table edge.
Long Fangs stay as is as far as I know. Probably picking up a BP& CCW in addition to their big guns.
Dreads and ven dreads go down to WS4, but Bjorn is back as a special character. I don’t know if they can be HQ.
I wish I knew more.
