Welcome to Librarium Online!
My local store just shot the 40k gamers list an email that they will be taking pre-orders for the new 40k 5th ed book, due out in June. The email also says new Space Marine dex due out in the fall. While I'm sure I'm undoubtedly beating a dead horse at this point, I thought it might help clarify for any of those who were still questioning a June release date.
(Since our store owner is rather savvy business woman, I doubt she'd jump the gun on allowing to pre-order if GW hadn't set it in stone.)
On the flip side of that: GameStop is accepting pre-orders for Starcraft 2 and says it ships 12/3/2008 and Blizzard (The company that is making the game) has very specifically not released a date yet. So yeah, companies have a long tradition of setting up pre-orders for games LONG before the release date even exists. Granted, it is more common with video games then with other media (ie, Table top games or P&P RPGs) but still... So it isn't definite, just very likely.
Rule of Thumb: Unless the company releases an official press release, it isn't certain.
Ah, yes, Gamestop and it's wonderful Starcraft:Ghost preorder fiasco.

I know people who have play tested 5th edition. They will not discuss any detail but it is real.
"Here dead lie we because we did not choose to live and shame the land from which we sprung. Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose; but young men think it is, and we were young."
A. E. Housman
GW doesn't do pre-orders unless they are for sure releasing.
Look, I think 5th is the worst business move they've made in the past 3 years. It doesn't change the fact it's coming out. Might as well snag what info you can and start adjusting your armies now.
I'll be retiring the unbeaten competitive Nids list at our store's farewell to 4th tourney (which the store manager is already setting up), and bringing in the Orks, hopefully painted by then, for the welcome to 5th tourney right afterward.

I don't know about worst, but i would call it an act of dessperation. They want people to have to buy new rule books to increse their earnings or they just think that 4th ed was a horrible set of rules. Eather way it shows that GW is sloppy. It always strikes me as odd that they have such a great game but horrible management skills.
Army's used: Space Wolves, Tomb Kings, High Elves, Tyranids, Tau and Eldar.
It says it's due for July 12th in my White Dwarf so...
Shows some nice fancy picture of Necrons fighting the Ultramarines. I guess that means they're redoing Necrons soon.
