Welcome to Librarium Online!
Was on Bolter and Chainsword earlier and saw this posted. It is courtesy of Ignatius.
He also later answered a few questions as well later on.Thumbed trough the new Marine dex just before it left for the printers. The new dex is finished! Generally you will gets lots of people bemoaning and criticising a new dex from the rumours they hear before it comes out which is silly, but its not all bad at all with the new dex. Now I'm not going to give away what's in it as this all came as a favour, but I can confirm what's not going to be in it as there are lots of new rumours flying around, and confirm some suspected stuff!
I can confirm combat squads, and the free frag, krak and bolt pistols, there are new units and at least 4 new plastic kits one of which is a plastic Crusader the kit has an additional surprise!, and new range of metals. The special characters from the current dex are in there plus a couple more.
As expected the traits are definitely gone, but the rules seem to be flexible enough that they don't need them, and marines now have a new universal special rule (in addition ATSKNF) to which applies to all Space Marines which makes them a little different and adds a new twist the the way they play! There is a section for each of the chapters of legend a bit like the new Eldar codex with the craft worlds but no specific rules for them.
Also had a game of the new 40k and it is much slicker than before (no rules dumbing down just lots of tweaks and stream lining), combat is now very savage and a bit of a blood bath! The codex has been written by Jervis. Don't worry its good! Some people will moan but generally it's a tough codex I would say marine are more competitive than before!
The future is bright the future is POWER ARMOUR!DA and BT is unlikely as they have their own codex, however Space Wolves (codex not complete) may get it and BA's don't have a codex in a true sence so maybe, but probably not! If BA do get it then they will be a tricky army to game against!I'm afraid so no infiltrating devs, in fact I think the only thing that can infiltrate are scouts now!
The new rule the marines are apparently getting has me wondering. I personally believe it could be the Relentless USR which allows them to rapid fire and still charge into combat afterwards. But without a better knowledge of the new rules this is just speculation.
Basically life sucks, there is only war and you're probably gonna get eaten by Tyranids, have fun.
All SM with Relentless would... I think would suck somewhat. Still, I guess we'll see when it comes out huh.
When is the new SM dex due for release again? Was it July or September?
Relentless eh? Well personally I would love it, however my opponents would probably refuse to play me ever again, so mixed feelings about that. It would somewhat invalidate the addition of the bolt pistol though unless they also get CCWs as standard... if that was the case I would expect an upping of the points cost at the very least.
I assume the additional LR shaped surprise will be the redeemer with its inferno sponsons...
Overall I'm excited, new codexes are always great news! I know that there are other armies that deserve them more though before anyone starts!
No chapter traits: me no likey. :x
GW seems positively obsessed with the "one size fits all" concept in recent years.Aye, I kinda thought that too. Granted, some of the traits maybe needed work to make them more... well...likible, or fair... but to take them all away?
I never used them myself, but I did think that they gave armies a certain uniqueness.
Well, that's because many players abused the flexibility offered before, and used it to create uber armies with no fluff.GW seems positively obsessed with the "one size fits all" concept in recent years.
Example? Iron warriors with 12 oblits, 3 defilers, daemon prince and 2x5 marines.
Or Space Marines that had powerful traits, and drawbacks that prevented them from taking bikes (oooh!) and allies (aaaah!).
The sad part is for players who used this flexibility to create fluffy armies...
"Politics is the womb in which war develops"
I would definitely agree with that - to be honest I only overlooked it initially because I play Ultramarines anyway (and always have), but I agree that the loss of traits is a damn shame - maybe they needed an overhaul but not to be scrubbed!
I have also noticed the trend away from flexibility - it's one of the things I definitely don't like about the latest Codices - the limitation of wargear options is one that has stuck out to me in Codex Dark Angels and Codex Blood Angels - lack of wargear options for Sergeants in particular annoyed me - the options are becoming fewer and fewer and as they do armies will become more and more standardised!
While it may surprise you coming from a "smurf" player, the last thing I want to see are "cookie cutter" armies!
I seems like GW's road is clear, could they be going down the easy road to making WH40K and WHFB in monopoly-type games?
Though "Cookie Cutter" type armies does sound like they are going down that road but, the new SM codex does sound interesting...
